and am livid

so many people who had zero fucking clue what will now happen to this country, so many wanting to have England back to how it was years ago, well guess what it wont fucking happen, time doesnt go backwards and the immigration wont get any better, it wont stop and it wont go away, all thats happened is this country will now be less competitive and the economy will tank, and when the economy tanks they have to get the money from somewhere and it'll come from the poor as the services they rely on will be cut, massively

and this was meant to be a protest vote!!

why dont so many leave voters actually realise what the are protesting about, lack of schools, housing, the nhs queues, has happened because the tory government have followed an austerity agenda we didnt even need and thats why there is a chronic shortage of housing/school places, as none of these services are being built and if you think voting leave and having a more right wing tory government in place will help these services out by christ you've got another thing coming

its fucking maddening

Am resolutely ignoring your 'give me strength' exasperation gone, because you scuppered me with the nice beginning.
You rogue! WinkGrin

derxa · 06/07/2016 07:07

and he had a fucking horse in his back garden!!! Grin

Oblomov16 · 06/07/2016 07:35

It was awful journalism Adrian!!
He said at the beginning that it was said, that people who voted leave were uneducated etc.
And then preceded to give us many interviews with people whose reasons were ..... Questionable .... At best.

derxa · 06/07/2016 07:51

It was a terrible biased programme. I often wonder how they get people to take part.
I tried to take it at face value and listened to what people were saying. There are a lot of disaffected voters out there. The referendum has stirred people up to be more political. Who will they turn to?

Stillwishihadabs · 06/07/2016 08:24

I freely admit to feeling closer to and being more familiar with Paris, Rome and Madrid than Newcastle ( never been), Sheffield (visited twice) or Liverpool ( just the one) . I have always thought of myself as European first and British second. I don't really indentify much with "Englishness". I feel utterly betrayed by the result and I know I'm not the only one. The " leavers". Have to understand they have really upset an awful lot of people, who are prepared to accept the result, but is it really too much to ask for some decent reasons and some ideas of how this will be better for us all ?

Brexit · 06/07/2016 09:33

But how will the leave vote affect your relationship with Paris,Rome and Madrid? They will still be there. You can still go and visit them. Confused

Iamthegreatest1 · 06/07/2016 09:43

Brexit Grin this referendum had been a real eye opener for many. Most BME's voted leave by the way. I wonder why?

TheElementsSong · 06/07/2016 10:09

Most BME's voted leave by the way. I wonder why?

Really? Where did you get that info? I love data.

I had a quick Google and what I found directly contradicts your statement.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/eu-referendum-result-7-graphs-that-explain-how-brexit-won-eu-explained-a7101676.html
See the graph "How support for Brexit differed by race and ethnicity"

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/who-voted-brexit-how-eu-8277077
"Ethnic minorities and Muslims were Remainers, while whites and Christians were Outers".

The report was from questioning a very very small number of voters

It's not a fact it's a report based on a survey

The only fact is the leave won

But reports of course hopefully will be useful going forward

TheElementsSong · 06/07/2016 11:36

The only fact is the leave won

Yup, that's painfully obvious.

Nevertheless, lacking cast-iron numbers, these surveys do directly contradict any confident assertions that "most BME" voters were for Leave.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 06/07/2016 11:47

Interesting there is such a contrast between Sikh and Asian voters

And Sikh and Hindu voters.

Maybe that reflects who was answering to the survey, where they lived, their age, profession, wealth etc

TheElementsSong · 06/07/2016 11:59

Yes I wonder why!

Just5minswithDacre · 06/07/2016 14:25

.Interesting there is such a contrast between Sikh and Asian voters

Typo?

Iamthegreatest1 · 06/07/2016 14:50

So ethnic minorities would never be Christians? very odd data.

dont know about this data but i read a report that said most BME's voted out. All the BME's i know personally voted out.

TheElementsSong · 06/07/2016 15:37

i read a report that said most BME's voted out. All the BME's i know personally voted out.

The report doesn't say ethnic minorities can't be Christian - it's pretty clear that the data in that graph are in 2 clusters, one by religion and the other by ethnicity. No correlation is implied between the two clusters. I'd be genuinely interested in your report as I have not found any such.

TheElementsSong · 06/07/2016 15:44

Also if we are swapping anecdata, all the BMEs that I personallly know voted Remain. Including me. But I think we all agree that personal anecdote =/= data, yes Hmm?

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 06/07/2016 15:48

No it wasn't a typo

Where more Asians who are Sikh asked? Are Asians they are asking first generation, second/third?

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 06/07/2016 15:51

Most first generation BME I know voted leave

Their children and grandchildren mainly remain who lived in London who live outside London remain and leave

But that's a small example

HelpfulChap · 06/07/2016 15:53

The piece I saw said

27% black, 30% Muslim and 33% other Asian voted Leave.

As I said before, no idea how accurate those numbers are.

Iamthegreatest1 · 06/07/2016 15:57

I cannot point you to the report as I didn't note it down at the time I read it or think I might need the it for MN. I came across it shortly after the results came out and I was reading lots of different reports on how people voted.

Just5minswithDacre · 06/07/2016 15:57

Oh okay, religion and ethnicity are separate. I see.

It's a substantial BAME leave vote whatever the exact breakdown.

Iamthegreatest1 · 06/07/2016 16:00

Could be something to do with the fact, out of all the countries in Europe, Britain is the least racist. BME's don't seem t have the same love affair that white Brits have with Europe.

TheElementsSong · 06/07/2016 16:09

It's a substantial BAME leave vote whatever the exact breakdown.

No problem with that conclusion, but we are agreed it would be wholly inaccurate, based on HelpfulChap's numbers, to claim that "most" BMEs (nor even close to a majority) voted Leave?

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 06/07/2016 16:21

I agree

Reports always need further reports

A people I know some friends of mine who are passionate remain supporters couldn't get their heads around bme's voting leave. Are they not as British and some have prejudice feelings as much as some white people

They couldn't so easily dismiss leaves as dumb racists then
