It is not surprising. Farage never was a "career politician". He had one cause - leaving the EU, and he has achieved that.

Exactly this. Now he has no cause, and nothing left to say. Hopefully UKIP can dis-band now ... Hmm

sorenofthejnaii · 04/07/2016 11:00

claig

Are you ok, hun Grin

He's gone.

baringan · 04/07/2016 11:01

I've heard he is ill.

claig · 04/07/2016 11:02

SapphireStrange, reports were that Boris stepped down quickly in part because he feared "a smear campaign".

Most of the media bosses know lots about the political class that they don't tell the public. Sometimes, if the Establishment or powerful people want to stop some politicians, they release some info about them to the public.

Farage was the main challenger of the Establishment and media which is why they ran smears against him accusing him of being "racist" etc, but they had nothing else against hi or they would have used it because he opposed the mand in teh end won and got us out of the EU.

loobyloo.. The clues in the title, the UK is about to become Independant... Any party that governs is now UKIP.

MsKite · 04/07/2016 11:02

That's interesting baringan. He's started smoking again hasn't he. He said he didn't believe the doctors who said it's dangerous.

'He's gone'

I expected it, I said so ona thread a few days ago.

In my opinion, he only came back last time to stop the Establishment destroying UKIP because there was much BBC promotion of Suzanne Evans to become leader then.

loobyloo1234 · 04/07/2016 11:05

Chris1234567890

Exactly my point. There is no need to a 'UKIP' party anymore surely? What a shame

CrazyDuchess · 04/07/2016 11:05

From his speech - I think we'll be seeing him in 2020

Batboobs · 04/07/2016 11:05

Surely, he still has work to do, we have only voted to leave - this process is nowhere near started, let alone completed! Not to mention there is still a lot of confusion about what will or is about to happen.

I have to agree that there is another reason for his resignation. Family issues, ill health? Who knows, but I feel there is more to it than meets the eye.

SapphireStrange · 04/07/2016 11:05

Thanks claig. But if, as you say, media bosses have nothing else on Farage, what would Murdoch have said to him when they met at the weekend and why would Farage be worried enough to resign?

RosesareSublime · 04/07/2016 11:05

Vind what a great shot and thats the owner of the Independant there isnt it?

Kennington · 04/07/2016 11:06

Great. He creates a whole world of trouble and then when it comes the time to act he disappears.
I reckon ukip will fold without him. They are no longer necesary.

UnGoogleable · 04/07/2016 11:06

What Farage means is that he was not prepared to spin and come up wuth nonsense like Miliband was in order to advance his career.

Ah I see - no, he preferred to use spin and nonsense in order to lie to the electorate to persuade them to vote leave instead.

Do you think lying about something as important as leaving the EU is more worthy than lying to further your career???

claig · 04/07/2016 11:06

'I've heard he is ill.'

After the plane crash, he has had lots of surgery for his back etc. It is also a lot of stress to be the Establishment's public enemy number one. He doesn't need the hassle because he is not a "career politician" like Miliband. He has achieved the one thing he wanted - to get us out of the EU.

vindscreenviper · 04/07/2016 11:09

Yes it is Roses he's coming in a close 2nd in the 'Who has the Twattiest Shoes' competition Grin
Loved Lily Allen's little vid clip of Rupert & Jerry wandering off down the garden path with the caption "nappy change"

UnGoogleable · 04/07/2016 11:10

Having watched his speech this morning - he didn't look like a man who is having to resign because the shit is about to hit the fan. He looked smug and pleased with himself as though this is part of a bigger plan.

ImperialBlether · 04/07/2016 11:10

I don't doubt there's a lot of stuff we don't know about Johnson but I don't think that's the reason he's backed out. The "Oh fucking hell, what have I done?" look on his face on the following morning told us he wasn't prepared to be involved.

UnGoogleable · 04/07/2016 11:11

Lilly Allen documented the whole thing (see the link I put above). Farage sliming up to Murdoch together with Liam Fox.

claig · 04/07/2016 11:13

'what would Murdoch have said to him when they met at the weekend and why would Farage be worried enough to resign?'

Murdoch is a kingmaker, a powerbroker, he decides and determines a lot of what might happen. If he backs someone, they can go a long way. I expect Liam Fox wants his backing and I expect Murdoch listens to them all - the "career politicians" - and decides which ones suit his interests and opinions and beliefs.

Farage is an important public figure, so I expect Murdoch wanted to hear what Farage's future plans were and Farage wants to persuade Murdoch to help get us out of the EU and stop any of the "career politicians" backsliding and stitching the people up becuse the Establishment tells them to.

But, Farage is his own man with one goal, leaving the EU. He is not a "career politician" that can be used by anyone because he has only one cause - leaving the EU.

I expect Farage told him, he was intending to step down, which lots of people thought he would do.

Surferjet · 04/07/2016 11:13

I'm sure he's up to something.

vindscreenviper · 04/07/2016 11:14

I wonder if he'll pop up as Liam Fox's new expenses funded bag-carrier and special assistant, his last one left under a bit of a cloud didn't he?

claig · 04/07/2016 11:16

ImperialBlether, Gove said it "was telling" that Boris had backed down so quickly.

Boris knew he had no chance of winning and that he was not backed by Murdoch and Dacre and I think there may be truth to the reports of "a smear campaign".

Boris was stuffed and stitched up and had no option but to stand down.

UnGoogleable · 04/07/2016 11:19

Farage wants to persuade Murdoch to help get us out of the EU

Oh bless you, do you really think that Farage - the national joke - has any influence whatsoever over Murdoch? Do you not think Murdoch made his mind up long ago over what he wants to happen, and has been pulling the strings for years?

I notice you are focussing on the 'career politician' comments and conveniently ignoring my question - do you think it's more worthy to perpetuate great stonking lies to win a referendum, than it is for 'career politicians' to use spin to further their own careers?
