March? What march?

Can anyone else find much news coverage of this 'democratic march against democracy'? Twitter is full of info, but tune into the news channels and you would be forgiven for thinking it wasnt happening. Kind of has the ring of 'nobody cares' really doesnt it?

A number of marchers posting on twitter seem to think they are geographically being removed from Europe, although I guess you could forgive them given the odd name given to the march itself 'March for europe'

Why is it not 'March for E.U'? Isnt that what they are really there for? Anyone else as confused as I am?

I stand by my post at 19.34, I am deeply offended at the suggestion that my posts are some sort of deliberate far right behaviour. Seems as usual you are fine on mumsnet as long as you agree with everything and shine a mirror up to other peoples poor behaviour.

I think next weeks march will be much
Bigger as more people from out of London will have coaches/transport etc organised.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 19:45

Fuck me, cant even admit to an error around here without being jumped on for admitting it.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 19:46

Fuck me, most reasonable people manage to admit they were wrong without insulting the person who pointed it out.

Marmitelover55 · 02/07/2016 19:47

Admitting an error isn't the same as appolpgising though is it?

Namehanger · 02/07/2016 19:47

Chill.

Democracy allows people to protest if they feel they are in the right or just fancy bringing London to a standstill. How is a march anti-democratic? Poll tax, Iraq war, suffragettes... To name just a few.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 19:48

I did, twice!!! but that wasnt good enough for rum was it? who proceeded to accuse me of deliberately disseminating far right material.

OP posts:
UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 19:49

Well, you did post up far right material.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 19:49

Why should I apologise? I remain shocked at the sentiment expressed in the placard, even though I accept it was not from todays march?

OP posts:
Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 19:50

Actually, I copied and pasted an image that I found on a benign twitter account. Rum actually placed a link to a far right website. Who knowingly disseminated Far right material?

It's your tone I objected to, from the beginning of this thread. It's gloaty and a bit goady.

We are never going to figure out what on earth we're going to do in this mess if we don't stop talking to each other like this!

I am getting really worried about this country. I don't want a fault line running through the middle of our society. Honestly, in your heart of hearts, is this how you want your country to be?

People protested today because they don't feel they have been heard. They're allowed to do that in a democratic society. They have that right. They represent nearly half of the country. When you mock them and their concerns, and are mean and sneery about it, you contribute to the degeneration of discourse in this country, and we all are reduced to being only "leavers" or "remainers". We are all a lot more than that and we all need to find a pragmatic solution to the mess we find ourselves in.

I voted Remain. I disagree with your views, but I am willing to listen to them if you express them in a way that doesn't encourage further division. I know there is something we all need to learn from this vote. Are you also willing to listen?

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 19:51

Yet more MN 'right on' hypocrisy!

OP posts:
UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 19:53

Clearly not, LondonKiwi.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 19:53

See my other thread posts Kiwi.

Also, I never said protest was undemocratic, but surely even you cant miss the irony of a democratic protest against a democratic decision?

OP posts:
Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 19:54

The hypocrisy comment was not aimed at kiwi as you well know greenwood... 😉

OP posts:
Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 19:57

Sorry, I should add, a democratic protest against democracy, that seeks to keep us in an undemocratic union?

OP posts:
Marmitelover55 · 02/07/2016 19:58

That's how democracy works though - there is no irony in it. You obviously don't understand democracy at all.

LondonKiwiMummy · 02/07/2016 19:59

Nope. I don't think it was anti democratic. Have you heard of the phrase "tyranny of the majority"?

And - this is very important - democracy doesn't mean you have to shut up and pretend you agree. You can't strip anyone of their freedom of expression, in a democratic society because they don't agree with you.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 20:00

Like I said, democracy didn't start and stop last Thursday.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:00

I would suggest Marmite, that you dont understand Irony. I sure as hell understand democracy 😉

OP posts:
LondonKiwiMummy · 02/07/2016 20:01

And please..... retire the unelected EU chestnut. It's ridiculous.

HOUSE OF LORDS. Do you know what it is???

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:01

At the risk of repeating my self Kiwi. I have never suggested the protest was ANTI democratic.

The EU is anti democratic however.

OP posts:
UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 20:01

So you understand Grayling's letter then? Good, that's something.

Marmitelover55 · 02/07/2016 20:02

Not sure why you are sneering at democracy in action then.
