March? What march?

Can anyone else find much news coverage of this 'democratic march against democracy'? Twitter is full of info, but tune into the news channels and you would be forgiven for thinking it wasnt happening. Kind of has the ring of 'nobody cares' really doesnt it?

A number of marchers posting on twitter seem to think they are geographically being removed from Europe, although I guess you could forgive them given the odd name given to the march itself 'March for europe'

Why is it not 'March for E.U'? Isnt that what they are really there for? Anyone else as confused as I am?

Yes, quite a disgusting unveiling you have had queen.

Whilst I may not agree with some things mango has said, and she not mine, neither of us are calling anyone any one names or othering them. Both of us have also on this thread alone countenanced for both sides.

TheElementsSong · 04/07/2016 10:05

Did you ever find yourself in the midst of such monsters?

Hmm Yup, we are so going to be pulling together as a nation.

sorenofthejnaii · 04/07/2016 10:08

The longer it takes the so called leaders of this country to come up with something, the deeper the divisions get

And there are prominent columnists and newspapers who are not helping fuel the fire of division.

You get a real sense of how awful things happened in the past, don't you.

(I am not saying that this is anything like the past but you can see how anger gets stoked and how people can easily be divided)

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 10:08

Green, you don't like being told to 'shut up' and 'get on with it'? Fearful of redundancy? Lack of jobs? Well, welcome to the working class, love. You know, those morons who have been worried for a very long time about uncontrolled immigration, whose communities have changed beyond recognition and whose schools are chocablock to the point of madness. With immigrants. With people who have come here largely unskilled with nothing to offer the economy.

It's a picture you hide your face from, but it's a fact of life for many, many communities around the country. Cameron said he'd sort it. He lied. We won't be lied to any more. We won't be told to 'shut' up by those London-obsessed fishbowl-dwellers for whom mass immigration means two new naice Cambodian restaurants just opened in Islington.

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 10:10

What's the latest news on 'the economy!! this morning, anyone? Anyone? I'm too busy learning my lines from the FT.

StrictlyMumDancing · 04/07/2016 10:13

Oh hell yes. People will always seek to control through hate and fear sadly. I'm not sure the modern world of technology helps in that either. What brings us closer to the world sometimes is what divides us from it.

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 10:15

I do honestly believe the kind of Remainers who have frothed and stamped all over these boards of late are simply not used to not getting their own way. I'm being serious here. It is a truly amazing spectacle.

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 10:21

I hope you didn't copy & paste that.

TheElementsSong · 04/07/2016 10:23

Readers may note that I placed the well-known quotation in quotation marks, which signify that, yes, I quoted it Wink

InShockReally · 04/07/2016 10:24

You're allowed to copy and paste if you make it clear it's a quote Queen.

InShockReally · 04/07/2016 10:25

Otherwise no one knows if it's 'you' talking or not. On a chat forum that's important!

smallfox1980 · 04/07/2016 10:28

Ah so we get to Queens big point, immigration. Again I'll repeat, its funny that the areas with highest EU immigration voted in, and those with the lowest voted out.

Hows the economy doing today? Well the construction industry has contracted due to fears over brexit, massively, which is a bad indication for the future.

The stimulus promises from the BOE is the thing keeping the stock market going, the fact that there will be an abundance of cheap money essentially.

The pound is still low, highest its been today is $1.33. 9% lower than pre referendum averages. This is also what is encouraging the FTSE, compnies with lots of overseas assets are riding high, banks and construction firms massively down.

Gilt yeilds are still low, a bad thing for pension funds and long term investors.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 10:28

Queen - Class war now, is it? Helpful.

I hate to break it to you, but without EU grants to places like Cornwall and Wales, some of the poorest people in this country are going to suffer. I think you've mistaken Brexit for some sort of class revolution.

Ask yourself who the main backers of the Brexit campaign are, who funded it. They are very rich people who have exploited disenchanted people to their own political ends. They will remain rich and powerful after brexit. And unless you're a UKIP fan (which I suspect you are) they're not very nice people.

mollie123 · 04/07/2016 10:28

this 7% regretting their vote you keep trotting out
Five per cent of Leave voters would now change their decision and vote to stay in the EU, according to a new poll.

The Ipsos Mori survey for BBC Newsnight found that, by contrast, just two per cent of Remain voters have had a change of heart.

It comes after a succession of people came forward to say they regretted their choice, including one man who said he was "very disappointed" the side he voted for won.
very scientific that - and clearly showing the BBC bias!

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 10:29

Can you Harvard reference it, please?

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 10:32

Does Smallpox consider Boston and Sunderland have low levels of immigration?

sorenofthejnaii · 04/07/2016 10:32

I hate to break it to you, but without EU grants to places like Cornwall and Wales, some of the poorest people in this country are going to suffer

And I suspect that a lot of people who pay UK taxes are the ones who voted Remain. I just hope that this vote does not harden attitudes towards those parts of the country which voted Leave - especially when spending cuts have to be looked at.

Austerity has hit parts of the UK terribly.

sorenofthejnaii · 04/07/2016 10:34

queen

Do you think people who can't get jobs in their area should be forced to relocate to places where there are jobs - or should they receive unemployment benefit instead?

Let's get tough on those people who say there are no jobs in their part of the world. They can move to places in the UK where there are jobs.

StrictlyMumDancing · 04/07/2016 10:38

Me too soren, I'd like to think we all think that way. Austerity has been really shit to a lot of people and areas. I was glad to see the abandoning of the fiscal plan, I honestly didn't think they'd do that. I've got massive fingers crossed money will make its way to where its needed most.

smallfox1980 · 04/07/2016 10:39

Boston has immigration of about 10% in a population of 58,,000. So 5,800. Which is higher than average for the area, but not really high as it means 90% of

Sunderland is 96% White British and has a 2.6% population classed as "other" which would indicate EU nationals. So that would be 7,150 people in a City of 275,000.

So no, I wouldn't class them as areas of high immigration from the EU.

TheElementsSong · 04/07/2016 10:39

mollie On your point about "Regrexit" I am in agreement with you. It doesn't matter tuppence whether anybody regrets their vote. I posted on the 2nd referendum thread that I don't agree with a re-run. The decision is made.

sorenofthejnaii · 04/07/2016 10:39

If you watch Cameron in the last PMQs, he was going on about the economy in response to Corbyn talking about the real issues facing the country. I honestly don't think Cameron gets it.

smallfox1980 · 04/07/2016 10:44

Sorry 15% out of the population are not British in boston, I just looked at an update of the census.

Population is now 64,600, 11% of which are from EU accession countries.

So 7,040 people from the EU.

Interestingly 23% of the population are retired.

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 10:45

Sore, I don't believe immigrants 'nick our jobs'. That is the lazy lament of lazy people.
