March? What march?

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 14:04

Can anyone else find much news coverage of this 'democratic march against democracy'? Twitter is full of info, but tune into the news channels and you would be forgiven for thinking it wasnt happening. Kind of has the ring of 'nobody cares' really doesnt it?

A number of marchers posting on twitter seem to think they are geographically being removed from Europe, although I guess you could forgive them given the odd name given to the march itself 'March for europe'

Why is it not 'March for E.U'? Isnt that what they are really there for? Anyone else as confused as I am?

I think the height of snobbery is othering people. Precisely what queen is doing. It doesn't matter what class you are, race you are or political leaning you have, when you start othering people and placing them into boxes with vitriol then its shows how much you think of yourself and how superior you think you are.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 07:59

There are no hard and fast rules - but I it's bad form to post the text of articles as though it's your own writing.

And whether Queen meant to or not, she did sound like she was saying the EU called her fat - because several replies said "the EU called you fat??".

You might want to look at queen's posts - ones that are not plagiarised - if you want to see mocking.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 08:05

"Rant" is about right though. Although I would say "incoherent rant" rather than paraphrased.

MangoMoon · 04/07/2016 08:36

Well I managed to understand the sentiment in her rant, so if you found it 'incoherent' then you should probably look to your own grasp of comprehension & critical thinking.

Any perceived mocking by queen was as a direct result of being intellectually sneered at by other posters who seemed to think themselves superior.

Something which is sadly prevalent across MN over the last month or so.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 09:09

Really? You're defending someone who wrote:

They despise Britain, really, as they have to rub alongside thick bigots (now proved to be more than half of Britain!) when really they feel far more at home waving sticks of French bread like lacrosse sticks at demonstrations

As long as she's on the same side of brexit as you, you'll defend anything she says.

MangoMoon · 04/07/2016 09:14

No, I will defend anyone who I think is getting an undeserved group pasting.

Please don't try & pigeon hole me into a neat little 'she'll back up anyone on her team' box - it's very lazy.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 09:20

Ah, so now I'm being lazy. Righto. Great response.

smallfox1980 · 04/07/2016 09:23

"My arguments are ideological and yours are an attempt to poleaxe the Leavers with frightful 'facts' about the dastardly economic consequences of voting for Brexit. We didn't listen to Osborne and were certainly not wobbled by you"

No your arguments are someone else's that you think meets your point, I note you never came back to my responses to the piece you copied and pasted about productivity.

Your arguments are not ideological they are merely grasping around for anything that fits your opinion.

Mango, how can you comment on others sneering when you tell other posters to look at their critical thinking? Especially when its evident that the poster that it concerns demonstrates little to none of this herself.

I've also not noticed you defending any posters from the remain group.

TheElementsSong · 04/07/2016 09:23

so the sooner people start taking a breath, pulling together, reaching across the divide & getting on with things the better the outcome will be.

I'm really not seeing how the hell we are meant to be pulling together ever, just looking at the last couple of pages of this thread.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 09:31

Tissues for "weeping Remain voters" as well- hardly helpful. People's job's are at risk here. And we're being told to just have a bit of faith, stop going on about "No Plan" and things might even be better one day. Hmm

StrictlyMumDancing · 04/07/2016 09:37

Me either elements, I'm starting to suspect there'll be a permanent rip in our fabric. Before the 23rd we at least rubbed along nicely. I want that country back, whatever happens. The longer it takes the so called leaders of this country to come up with something, the deeper the divisions get. Anyone extending a hand at the moment has people gleefully chopping it off.

InShockReally · 04/07/2016 09:38

Yes, I think this is the closest we'll see of a modern day civil war. Cavaliers and Roundheads come to mind.

Goady mocking threads like this won't help.

MangoMoon · 04/07/2016 09:38

I've also not noticed you defending any posters from the remain group.

I haven't seen any Remainers getting a group kicking as a lone voice - if I did, I would.

I try to be nice as a rule, and have indeed tried to be supportive to a few 'Remainers' that have been upset.

Feel free to trawl through my (probably thousands Blush) of posts over the last week for evidence.

smallfox1980 · 04/07/2016 09:43

Don't worry, everyone has been posting a lot, to the detriment of work and or children.

TheElementsSong · 04/07/2016 09:45

smallfox I think we need to be fair and appreciate that Mango has been much more willing to engage and discuss things, and has shown more empathy, than many others.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 09:47

The OP starting this thread sets the tone for this whole debate. 48% of us voted remain, but are now being told to shut up and stop weeping. We are now to trust in the Leadership, who brought us into this nightmare in the first place, and now "shut up, because we won, ner ner ner".

I said 3 days ago - this thread is an example of sore winners - so far, project fear has become project reality, and we're not allowed to say it.

MangoMoon · 04/07/2016 09:48

I'm really not seeing how the hell we are meant to be pulling together ever, just looking at the last couple of pages of this thread.

This thread is probably not the best advert for coming together, but there are other threads where people are starting to.

So long as we all (as a country) keep calling out shitty behaviour in rl & online as it happens and reporting as necessary then I sincerely believe that this can absolutely be fixed.

From my own experience, I was quite flippant and disrespectful to a poster on another thread (I didn't mean to be, but with hindsight I definitely came across that way); I was rightfully called out on it and after I got over my initial defensiveness I apologised via PM and also on the thread.
I hope that however small, my apology went some way to building a bridge - who knows?

StrictlyMumDancing · 04/07/2016 09:49

Ah mango you sound a bit like my now ex friend who defended someone he knew who was racially abusing people when others defended the people he was abusing. Oh no, a group of people taking it out on a single person. No, he should be made to take account of his own actions because he was attacking a group not an individual and that's ok. Its not ok for that group to tell him they found him and his actions abhorrent. And it was their fault for not accepting his views on racism in the first place.

MangoMoon · 04/07/2016 09:50

Ok Strictlymum - I'm not though, honestly.

MangoMoon · 04/07/2016 09:52

Thanks elements, I'm trying - honest!

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 09:53

Smallpox, I will continue to cut & paste whatever I deem suitable when the subject arises for which I have limited understanding (ie the economy). If I was interested in the fiscal machinations of institutions I would have read Economics at university rather than Sociology. Your perpetual bleating about productivity and trade is a smokescreen by which you can avoid absorbing the ideological arguments many leavers have for wanting to be unshackled from the EU.

Your imperiousness over matters of money is exceptionally telling. Never once have you shown a scintilla of understanding with regards to the concerns of the majority in this referendum. You don't deserve to have your boring points listened to. Why should we, when you clearly are invested so heavily in being right? You come across as this shrieking autocrat and it is very, very dull to listen to.

Oh, and for the dim folk: It wasn't the EU I was referring to during the 'fat/unhealthy' rant, it was the liberal elites who run this nanny state we live in and who are so beloved of the faceless EU federalists.

StrictlyMumDancing · 04/07/2016 09:54

But you are Mango - Queen is purposely throwing fuel onto a fire and getting the response they want. If Queen has the right to spit vitriol but the people she's spitting it at don't have the right to say 'hang on, that's not on' its not different to defending Mr Racist Twat.

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 09:55

Mango, you have been very kind in defending me, thank you. They call my 'plagiarising' 'bad form'. The irony is rather making me chuckle this morning. Did you ever find yourself in the midst of such monsters?

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 09:56

Ah, queen is back to prove my point.

QueenOfNowt · 04/07/2016 09:58

Strictly, throwing fuel? Onto the fire? The fire is you and your ilk, right? Don't make me laugh. Simply admitting to being a Brexiter is fuel for some of you on these boards. Disgraceful unveiling you lot have had here.
