March? What march?

Can anyone else find much news coverage of this 'democratic march against democracy'? Twitter is full of info, but tune into the news channels and you would be forgiven for thinking it wasnt happening. Kind of has the ring of 'nobody cares' really doesnt it?

A number of marchers posting on twitter seem to think they are geographically being removed from Europe, although I guess you could forgive them given the odd name given to the march itself 'March for europe'

Why is it not 'March for E.U'? Isnt that what they are really there for? Anyone else as confused as I am?

Was that the point I made.

I think all of the points on here where people say: " The threats didn't work cause these people have nothing to lose." Are a load of bollocks.

Try getting Westminster to fund the projects that the EU did, the regeneration it funded etc, when tax takes are down.

Sunderland certainly won't get it, it already has been hit harder by austerity than many other areas.

Sunderland had a lot to lose, and is likely to do so, the people there will feel lied to by the leave camp.

I'm a remainer, I don't believe in a 2nd referendum, and I don't believe in protesting the result of a democratic decision.

I still respect the right to protest be it against, disability benefit cuts, jnr drs, the tampon tax and air strikes in Syria, however I personally disagree with protesting against a result that didn't go "my way"

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 23:14

Ok Greenwood. Because you are the moral authority on everything! have at it, call Juncker too while you are at it, he agrees with you that democracy is irrelevant!

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 23:17

I haven't said democracy is irrelevant - that's just being goady because I dared to question you. I also don't claim to be a moral authority on very much at all. I'm just questioning your need to gloat about the march today - which you have admitted.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 23:19

Brexit why should they protest? Well we seem to be moving towards the Norway option - Ie as close as poss to the EU model but without 'control' - so access to the free market but no control on immigration, and no extra EU funding, plus lower tax receipts and weaker demand. Maybe they won't protest when they don't get what they voted for. Maybe this was the big protest, and they'll just roll over. Who knows. It all seems a bit pointless though. Anyway bedtime for me.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 23:22

Of course Greenwood, of course.

The simple fact is, if you voted in the Referendum, you then agreed to the whole process. You can't complain now if it didn't go your way.

I voted to remain, but you marchers and people that cannot accept the result are quite embarrassing.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 23:25

I can live with being embarrassing!

Marmitelover55 · 02/07/2016 23:35

Me too. The government needs to understand the sheer weight of our Remain feeling so that our opinions can be incorporated into the final treaty.

GreenishMe · 02/07/2016 23:36

Who is talking about 'knuckle draggers'? That is just vile.

Look through some of the other threads. You're not seriously saying you haven't seen that term on here before are you??

I'm not saying the lives of people in some of these regions will definitely be improved, we don't know yet.

My point is that the referendum, rightly or wrongly, offered hope to people who are desperate for something to change and they were willing to take a risk. Why would you begrudge someone hope?

I would imagine very few Remainers voted remain because they were concerned about a worsening effect on the lives of these strangers if we left the EU.

It's insincere to pretend they did.

Marmitelover55 · 02/07/2016 23:50

The only people I've seen referring to "knuckle draggers" (vile term) are leavers.

Marmitelover55 · 02/07/2016 23:51

See post at 21.26

GreenishMe · 02/07/2016 23:57

Marmite I'd never heard the term before last week.

Every person using it was a remain voter describing leave voters. It's well-known amongst leave voters on here courtesy of remain voters.

I find it incredible that you haven't noticed.

smallfox1980 · 03/07/2016 00:00

Its no more offensive than "sheeple" or the many nasty accusations laid at the door of remainers.

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 03/07/2016 00:03

It was a great march. Very peaceful and happy with some funny banners. OP has obviously chosen the rude ones for her own agenda.

As for being anti-democratic what nonsense! My own personal reason for going was not to ask for a second referendum but to show the EU that there are many here who are devastated by the result. And I think we did that with bells on.

Why would that bother anyone?

Coatgate · 03/07/2016 00:06

I'm sure the EU is delighted.

GreenishMe · 03/07/2016 00:08

Its no more offensive than "sheeple"

I'd say it was massively more offensive and so would most people

Thefuturecouldbebright · 03/07/2016 00:10

Where in the holy hell, are people getting the anti democratic diatribe from? At no point have I ever said the protest was anti democratic! Read the jeffing thread! Before you make assumptions!

OP posts:
smallfox1980 · 03/07/2016 00:11

No I don't think so both suggest a lack of intelligence.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 03/07/2016 00:12

In fact, I dont recall a single person suggesting the protests were undemocratic!! Ironic? Yes. Undemocratic?no. Read the FRED ffs...

Theydontknow - why don't you cut out the middle man and go straight to Brussels, lick their boots and tell them how wonderful they are.

smallfox1980 · 03/07/2016 00:14

Does that mean brexiteers have to go lick the boots of Murdoch and Rothmere?

Marmitelover55 · 03/07/2016 00:15

I've followed lots of these threads and I haven't heard that term before. It's offensive and as I said I've only heard it on this thread, used by a Leaver.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 03/07/2016 00:16

Omg Small... The irony. Murdoch? The one with the biggest vested interest of all in the EU?

OP posts:
smallfox1980 · 03/07/2016 00:21

Murdoch has far larger vested interest in EU competition laws no applying in the UK.

Murdoch who said that when he goes to London they do what he say but that when he goes to Brussles they ignore him?

Murdoch who without the EU in the UK is far more influential? That guy yeah?
