March? What march?

Can anyone else find much news coverage of this 'democratic march against democracy'? Twitter is full of info, but tune into the news channels and you would be forgiven for thinking it wasnt happening. Kind of has the ring of 'nobody cares' really doesnt it?

A number of marchers posting on twitter seem to think they are geographically being removed from Europe, although I guess you could forgive them given the odd name given to the march itself 'March for europe'

Why is it not 'March for E.U'? Isnt that what they are really there for? Anyone else as confused as I am?

Striclty

Yes, there was lots of pointing and Shame on Yous at Downing street.

I was smiling at the police and mouthing "Not you; Them" whilst attempting to point over their heads at Downing Street.

DH though I was hilarious.

OP

But immigrants were selling them, I think, so I don't agree

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:51

And no, you can call me many things, but disingenuous? I asked in the spirit of fairness.

On Greece, I feel for the Greeks I really do but an awful lot of their issues are of their own making.

The fact that almost half of their economy is "informal" meaning it doesn't pay tax, scams like leaving a bit of scafolding on your house so you can claim it is "unfinished" and therefore avoid paying the equivilant of council tax abound. The public services were massively bloated with people being paid to do very little, there were lots of cases of people claiming their dead parents pensions. Retirement age was earlier than here in the UK. The fact that any governent must spend significantly more on defence than any other EU country is almost demanded by the electorate, the list could go on and on.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 20:52

Why was the warning of an emergency budget an 'obvious lie'? I really don't get it - the guy is chancellor of the exchequer - his job is to make predictions - and if he thought (rightly as it turns out) that brexit would be deeply damaging for our economy, then warning that there would probably need to be an emergency budget seems very sensible. I suspect the problem is more that these issues were whipped up by the media. They have a clear responsibility here - very hard for politicians to issue warnings if people are going to jump on them afterwards and say 'you predicted x and it hasn't happened'. I'm sorry but that's not a lie. It's just a prediction that hasn't come to pass - yet.

Coatgate
The home of Democracy would vote leave.
It's not just about the money.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:53

Well, if that is the case then fair enough, but the message "I am here to hug an immigrant" just didnt come across well IMHO.

Blimey, you've faced worse than "disingenuous" on here!!

The two were not at all comparable. As I explained

NotYoda · 02/07/2016 20:53

Fair do's. We can agree to disagree

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:55

Goady, yes, gloaty, yes, someone who makes an error and stands up to it? Yes.

Disingenuous. No 😉

I hugged an immigrant. Very pleased to have done so - a lovely lovely T.A... wife's a nurse. Both Spanish, two children born in the U.K. I was gutted last weekend and I knew he was, so I asked him if I could give him a big hug.

SO glad I did. I needed to make contact with people who felt, like me, that something important had been lost. And it has been - we could lose him and his fabulous, caring wife and swap them for some aging British retirees from the Costas whose pensions have collapsed with sterling. Instead of propping up the NHS, these people will be draining it, but hey the future's bright innit?

Thanks for the photos by the way. The march looked great and I loved seeing the Geri Halliwell sign. Thought it rather apt.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:57

Hug as many immigrants as you feel you need to, I just feel the T-shirts missed the mark. But again, just my opinion and how it came across to me.

Not that my opinion counts for bugger all around here of course! 😂😂😂

There was a good one with a picture of Pinnochio with Boris' head photoshopped on and a quote

"To become a real boy, you must prove yourself brave, truthful and unselfish"

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 21:01

Of course the other side of the coin is not pleasant to see at all. And is playing out on our streets with alarming frequency. "We voted leave, pack your bags" being the most commonly reported.

Nice people, your compadres.

GetAFuckingGrip · 02/07/2016 21:02

I despair.

Redactio · 02/07/2016 21:02

Shocking:
I have reported your comment for ageism. Your prejudice against a whole section of society is, frankly, disgusting.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 21:04

Give it a rest Greenwood... My Compadres? 17 million people voted leave, and some random fuckwit who is an intolerant piece of shit is my compadre? Change the record.

Wish I'd been there. I keep replaying the week's events in my brain over and over like a video game, thinking maybe there's a way things can play out differently, but there isn't is there? It's done.

I'm right in the middle of a property deal. I'm buying a flat off a really nice retired gentleman who's not well and wants to sell so he can be with his family. With the collapse in property prices reported yesterday I'm probably going to have to pull out (I think it's better than guzundering, I've had that happening to me and it's horrid)... I just haven't made the call yet thinking about the coulda woulda shouldas of it all. He doesn't know and my heart's broken for him.

The effects of all of this have yet to be felt. Well done to all the huggers and marchers out there.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 21:05

Sorry in the interest of fairness 'fuckwits' not fuckwit.

Bet it's not deleted.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 21:06

Why not offer less money? How is that worse than pulling out?

OP posts:
Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 21:07

Agreed Brexit.

Shockingundercrackers · 02/07/2016 21:08

Red - what's agist about my comment? That aging retirees cost money? Of course they do!

It's their absolute right to come back to the UK and good for them if that's what they want to do. I'm happy that my taxes support them (and any other retirees by the way!) but I have the feeling that they'd rather be in Spain, where they've built their lives now don't you?

StrictlyMumDancing · 02/07/2016 21:10

notyoda I was smiling apologetically at the Police. Some of them looked really amused by it all. I'm sure there's been worse done outside Downing Street. I ended up walking back through Parliament Square on the way home, the cleanup wasn't anywhere near as bad as other protests I've seen there too (used to work nearby, I'm not a serial protestor!). I'm quite proud!
