March? What march?

Can anyone else find much news coverage of this 'democratic march against democracy'? Twitter is full of info, but tune into the news channels and you would be forgiven for thinking it wasnt happening. Kind of has the ring of 'nobody cares' really doesnt it?

A number of marchers posting on twitter seem to think they are geographically being removed from Europe, although I guess you could forgive them given the odd name given to the march itself 'March for europe'

Why is it not 'March for E.U'? Isnt that what they are really there for? Anyone else as confused as I am?

No, I won't give it a rest.

Shockingundercrackers · 02/07/2016 21:14

I want to future - I keep thinking if he could offer less on the place he's buying, then I could take the same off my offer and no-one loses out, but DH (who's a sensible, less emotional type) tells me I can't do this and it would make it his problem. I don't know what to do for the best. I'm tempted to go ahead and buy the place just to do him a favour, but then I've got my own family to think about, and if there really is going to be a 10% correction then I'm 25k out of pocket just to help out a complete stranger.

I wish wish wish it had all gone through already.

Brexit · 02/07/2016 21:14

Oh you are all so lovely with your apologetic, intelligent demonstration.

Hope you had a lovely day.

It ain't gonna change anything.

Shockingundercrackers · 02/07/2016 21:15

Apologies all. Don't mean to derail thread - I probably need to start my own.

Redactio · 02/07/2016 21:15

Shocking
"I 'm happy that my taxes support them"
The assumption here is that the elderly don't pay taxes, do some research before posting your ageist comments.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 21:19

Brexit - time will tell - thing is, I think Grayling's arguments are very difficult to resist. In fact the only argument against him is that not implementing brexit after the referendum outcome will lead to civil unrest and a resurgence in the far right, especially in the parts of England where the brexit vote was strongest.

But I would say that is basically 'Project Fear Mark 2'.

Politicians in a representative democracy must make the best decision for the nation as a whole - both now and for those coming up behind. That is the issue.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 21:19

It's ok, shocking - people are already suffering from Brexit, and it hasn't even happened yet. But as long as we 'took back control' eh Hmm

Do we get our country back too? I'd quite like the one we had on 22nd June.

Sweetgreen · 02/07/2016 21:22

OP, if there were a worst Brexit thread all week competitions, this thread would win hands down. The lack of intellect, maturity and wit is truly exceptional. Star

Shockingundercrackers · 02/07/2016 21:23

Redactio - I'm aware that pensioners pay taxes thank you. I'm not stupid. I was referring to the additional burden on the NHS of retired British emigrants who are finding themselves in the unenviable position of returning to the country they left, just because their pensions are worth less post Brexit. Until last week Spain picked up their hospital bills, whilst unemployed HCPs from Spain came here and looked after our pensioners and paid taxes to boot.

As I've said before, effects of all of this have yet to be felt.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 21:24

No, you shouldnt take the hit out of niceness shocking, but I do think it merits a conversation between the parties, pulling out when they may be as worried as you are especially if you like the house, would be rash. Chat with the estate agent and put across your concerns first, there may be other interested parties in which case you will be off the hook.

Just imagine how the March would be if it was made up of all those illiterate knuckle dragging Northern poor people (orchestrated by a clever person).

Scary.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 21:27

Ahhh, Sweetgreen, a sneery post! But you are on the 'right side' apparently, so I suppose I should just accept it, being the one on the dark side with no intellect and all.

You could be right Future, it's worth a go! Haven't got my head around any of this yet, hence Mumsnet. It's the modern equivilant of fiddling whilst Rome burns in my house...Grin

smallfox1980 · 02/07/2016 21:27

Putting words in people's mouths isn't fair Brexit.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 21:28

Brexit I don't understand your point - was it directed at me? What are you trying to say?

Brexit · 02/07/2016 21:34

Nope it's not all about you.

My point was how apparently lovely today's March was with all these lovely intelligent remain voters. But just imagine the vote was overturned. How would all those nasty leave voters react.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Redactio · 02/07/2016 21:34

Shocking
"Until last week Spain picked up their hospital bills"
Not so - the UK pays Spain for healthcare costs for by UK citizens (it's the same the other way round).

NotYoda · 02/07/2016 21:37

Brexit

Do you know something we don't know?

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 21:38

Brexit - yes - exactly - Project Fear Mark 2.

A bit crap that it comes down to something as shockingly prosaic as fear of hatred and violence though. How did we get here?

StrictlyMumDancing · 02/07/2016 21:44

I just ran into the march whilst out in London, I must have missed the apparent IQ test I and everyone else was given Hmm

Seems its not the done thing to be happy a planned peaceful protest remained peaceful.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 21:45

How would all those nasty leave voters react.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

What are you implying with this post? That Leave voters are nasty, (I assume you mean this as a threat that things could get violent) or that we should all shut up at the nebulous threats of 'nastiness'?

Brexit · 02/07/2016 21:54

Oh come on with your disingenuous.

Leave voters have been demonised as thick uneducated elderly northerners. Or have I been living in a parallel universe? Many of the posts on here have been about how peaceful and luvverly today's March was.

Or

Yes I do know something. Plans are being made.

Take your pick.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 21:55

The real risk is the rise of the hard right. If politicians row back on brexit now - even though it is in our economic interest - how will they be punished at the next election? That's what will be running through their minds. And it's something we should be concerned about too. What might a far right government do, say in relation to future relations with the EU - with an electorate whose 'will' had been 'thwarted' once already?

Of course the long term answer if brexit were not implemented would be to turn the page, through decent wages and stable jobs but that's a big challenge - especially for our current Westminster crowd...

NotYoda · 02/07/2016 21:56

Brexit

You have a very negative view of humanity. Maybe you want to have a think about that Smile

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 21:58

And today's march really was peaceful and good humoured. 50,000 people but I only saw 2 police cars and an ambulance. No police on foot - except at the top end of Downing Street. Amazing really. Long may it continue.
