March? What march?

Can anyone else find much news coverage of this 'democratic march against democracy'? Twitter is full of info, but tune into the news channels and you would be forgiven for thinking it wasnt happening. Kind of has the ring of 'nobody cares' really doesnt it?

A number of marchers posting on twitter seem to think they are geographically being removed from Europe, although I guess you could forgive them given the odd name given to the march itself 'March for europe'

Why is it not 'March for E.U'? Isnt that what they are really there for? Anyone else as confused as I am?

BeenTetc
The lie that persuaded me to vote leave was Osbornes threat to hold an emergency budget.
Like most people with a backbone I don't react well to threats.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 02/07/2016 20:29

Cheers Fig...that was an exceptional letter and I do concur with many of his points. I think disgusting is the wrong word...I'm sorry!! I voted remain as my job is EU funded and it does a LOT of good, but I am prepared to accept the majority verdict and move with it.

It just feels wrong to have a vote and then nullify it. It is like a spit in the face of all the people who went out to vote. A way to silence people regardless of what you think of their vote.

I am not really smart enough to know the ins and outs of Brexit consequences. I just believe that once a vote is taken it should be adhered to.

Feel free Not, but can you also report rums post with the link? As that really does direct people to far right material.

Please don't tell me you really did decide your answer to a question of huge constitutional importance just on the basis that the chancellor told you there would need to be an emergency budget? Jesus Christ. That really does underline, yet again, why this kind of issue should never have been put to a referendum. [despairs].

NotYoda · 02/07/2016 20:32

It should never have been put to a Referendum

Really really should not

Marmitelover55 · 02/07/2016 20:33

And there will be an emergency budget by the Autumn.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:34

Not, do you nt think that was DCs plan? He was pro leave, knew that he would be ridiculed for it in the EU parliament, left it to the people, then Lo and behold washes his hands of it? Just musing.

Oh, and thew Boris under his own bus in the process...

Redactio · 02/07/2016 20:35

Figment
No it wasn't because of what he said. It was because it was a threat, and a palpable lie.
Plus the EU is not democratic, and is anti socialist - just ask the Greeks.

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:37

Sorry... Typos... Fat fingers.

'We may have to hold an emergency budget" is hardly on a par with the lies told by the Leave Campaign.

"Accuracy is for snake oil pussies" - Leave campaigner Dominic Cummings.

"Facts don't work" - Arron Banks.

And the Big Red Bus.

There were inaccuracies on both sides - but the Leave campaign really was almost criminally misleading (to quote Michael Dougan).

NotYoda · 02/07/2016 20:39

I'd add:

"People in this country have had enough of Experts" (Michael Gove)

lalalonglegs · 02/07/2016 20:40

I was working at one of the polling stations last week and I had four people come in and ask me if I could advise them on which way to vote Shock. Only a tiny amount of the total number that came through the door, admittedly, but I'm sure there were very many more who didn't ask that just flipped a coin or voted whichever way their mum/boyfriend/wife/shouty uncle told them they should. I can quite believe that someone would vote on a single issue such as a threatened emergency budget.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 20:42

Many, many people were misinformed - people really did believe the £350m figure for a start. They thought is was going to the NHS - because the BBC Leave campaign broadcast told them it would.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/07/2016 20:43

Look I am no fan of George Osborne either, and I detest what happened to collective bargaining in Greece - and the other southern states - and what happened to wages and term and conditions in these countries but how does leaving the EU help us - the uk - in any way that has to do with what happened in Greece? Collective bargaining coverage in the uk has already shrunk down to around 19% - and this shrinking process has been ongoing since thatcher and has had nothing to do with the EU. Leaving the EU is not going to help us get our collective bargaining coverage back in the uk.

And Greece wants us to remain in the EU - as yanis varafoukis made clear when he visited the uk before the vote.

Just missed something

Melanie

There was indeed a banner that said "Fucking Omnishambles"

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/07/2016 20:45

YY NotYoda. "Experts" - those bastards.

Redactio · 02/07/2016 20:46

" I can quite believe that someone would vote on a single issue such as a threatened emergency budget."

Yes - because it was such an obvious lie, how many others had they told?

NotYoda · 02/07/2016 20:46

There were nice young people selling T-shirts with "Hug an Immigrant" on. Rather enterprising and made me smile

StrictlyMumDancing · 02/07/2016 20:47

I was there. It was lovely and peaceful. Worst I heard was 'shame on you ' at Downing Street and saw down sweary signs.

I didn't see this personally but it's my favourite:

March? What march?
Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:48

The Greek people do not want to stay in the EU though, overwhelmingly in fact, their democratically elected government ignored them (no, I have not missed the irony) in their own referendum. I wonder what the average greek makes of that situation.

Not as many as the Leave campaign have been caught out on since last Friday morning, Redactio. I refer you back to my (non-exhaustive) list - which doesn't even include the immigration issue.

Dan Hannan put us all straight on that.

NotYoda · 02/07/2016 20:49

OP BTW

I won't be reporting Rum's post with the link to the far right website, because people have a choice whether to click on it, and she explains what it is. Which is not at all the same thing as your mistake. (now gone, I see)

You are a disingenuous little minx, aren't you?

Coatgate · 02/07/2016 20:49

My first point of reference in any debate is "What would Greece do"

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 20:49

Sorry Not, but I actually thought the 'hug an immigrant' T-shirts whilst well intended, were terribly patronising and polarizing.
