Can we laugh or cry yet?

Are you still sane?

Will this insanity ever end?

How many of these leadership candidates are actual candidates

It's between Johnson, Gove and May. With Johnson's stock sinking by the second.

The rest know they have no chance, but are jockeying for attention and cabinet positions

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has decided not to run for the Conservative leadership - saying he will back Theresa May instead.

In a statement, Mr Hunt said it was "not the right time for me" to run as Tory leader "though I remain completely committed to ensuring we secure our position as a great trading nation with sensible controls on migration".

peachpudding · 30/06/2016 11:16

May is the leader this country needs. I will be voting for her unless Gove is on the ballot and then I wont be sure. Confused

DoinItFine · 30/06/2016 11:17

Mark Carney tends to make me throw sock balls at the telly.

As an expression of desire? Wink

(I might or might not have a crush on Mark Carney).

I used to work in government in an EU-related role.

Now I apparently no longer need to work because freaking out about Brexit is a fill timr occupation.

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2016 11:18

So is Gove running because Johnson didn't promise him the Chancellorship as per Lady Macbeth's email?

DoinItFine · 30/06/2016 11:19

That e-mail was bullshit.

I reckon Gove always planned to shaft Boris in the end.

RedToothBrush · 30/06/2016 11:21

Cleaning up the messes men make is a woman's job?

Well, in politics, I think there is a case to be made for the argument/perception...

Crabb - raising profile
Fox - making up the numbers
Leadsom - token second woman (Nicky Morgan was talking about running on this premise openly!)
Gove - stop Boris / the cummings puppet / the press puppet / Mr Vine
Johnson - megalomanic
May - horrible but credible

Dominic Raab. Urgh.

I may have a crush on Mark Carney too. V confused why this may be the case Confused

same here.

I have zero claim to expertise here, except for my world-class googling skills. I'm an academic.

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2016 11:23

Mark Carney is hot. Don't fight the feelings.

Chalalala · 30/06/2016 11:25

As much as I want to ascribe treacherous self-serving motives to Gove (and I do), I also suspect that he doesn't trust Boris to actually press the big red button. His hatred of the EU is not political posturing, it's quite genuine.

howabout · 30/06/2016 11:25

There will be 2 contenders at the end and the favourite never wins. I see May is now emerging as the "favourite".

Muddlingalongalone · 30/06/2016 11:25

More Mark Carney love here - he comes across as if he would be much better equipped than any politician to sort out this sorry mess

weasle · 30/06/2016 11:29

Is May horrible? She certainly seems the least bad option by miles.
Not that I'm a Tory nor wanting us to Brexit. I'm still hoping we can wriggle out of it and stay in. Unrealistic I know.

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2016 11:29

May is a bit fuzzy on human rights (!) but she's still better than the other options.

weasle · 30/06/2016 11:30

And at least Jeremy *unt isn't running. My blood pressure couldn't withstand that injustice.

Hamishandthefoxes · 30/06/2016 11:30

I think Gove genuinely likes change and destruction and believes it ends up making things better. This may be true and is probably the leavers argument with which I have any slight sympathy.

I don't think he cares that the process of change is inevitably difficult and tries to charge through it to finish the story, rather than carefully unpicking and putting back together.

Chalalala · 30/06/2016 11:32

I think Boris is the only one who would possibly try to wriggle out of the referendum. Gove hates the EU viscerally, and May can't afford to look like she's wriggling out since she was a Remainer.

As much as I wanted the UK to stay, I don't think it would be a good idea now. It would poison UK (and EU) politics for decades. Better to get on with it and try to build something new.

RedToothBrush · 30/06/2016 11:33

I think Cummings Gove genuinely likes change and destruction and believes it ends up making things better.

Feel like I am watching Shakespeare (but with more jokes)

Gov is truly awful and I would never walk in front of him but I am hoping he has split Johnson's vote

Where is Bojo? I can't believe he has stage fright. More than likely a late drama lama entrance

Hamishandthefoxes · 30/06/2016 11:35

And Gove likes Cummings... I agree red!

Showmethewaytogohome · 30/06/2016 11:35

Not Gov - Gove bah!

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2016 11:35

Is it terrible that I'm enjoying all the panicked 'we voted Brexit and we must have a pro Brexit leader' style squawking on Twitter?

DoinItFine · 30/06/2016 11:36

I also suspect that he doesn't trust Boris to actually press the big red button.

Yes, good point.

I love all the Mark Carney fanciers on the thread 💘

Are you going to raise interest rates, Mark? Phwoar.

RedToothBrush · 30/06/2016 11:36

Boris 35mins late....
