When do you think it will feel better?

I know lots of you will want to say: "get over yourselves already", but please be kind (or say nothing!).

But for those of you for whom this is genuinely devastating, emotionally, morally, practically (if you or partner is non-British), or job-wise - when do you think it will start to feel better?

I'm waking every morning feeling as if, yes, the sky has fallen if, or as if I've experienced a personal bereavement.

The other thing I notice is that I'm behaving in ways I would never normally. I am appalled that I think it's ok to use the word 'morons'. I am sorry. It's not respectful.

Anna Soubry on World at One notes that current contenders for leadership of both parties are women. I have to say the bright note for me in all this whole sorry mess is the impression that most of the sensible and rational things that seem to have been said have been said by women (from both sides of the argument).

Yes we are desperately hoping for a Norway passporting solution. But we don't know if that's what we are going to get. And if we did get that we'd get it at the price Norway pays (ie, accepting free movement of people and contributing to EU funds and being subject to EU regulation - all the things the electorate said it didn't want).

AuntDotsie · 30/06/2016 14:09

Backingvocals - the word on Twitter is, apparently, that we will negotiate an EEA Minus package, which will not include passporting at the expense of also not including free movement etc., because, as you say, the electorate doesn't want it. This leaves the path open for those financial businesses to be attracted by France, which needs the tax that would produce to assuage its own far-right factions. Should this happen then the UK, and London in particular, will be a very different place.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 30/06/2016 14:40

I can't see the govt allowing the London financial capital to go to Frankfurt and Paris. The economy would go down the pan. But then things are mad crazy mad at the moment.

If a deal is negotiated without the passport, DH's company(a securities trading co) will transfer to an EU country (they'll have to). Which would leave us (and of course many others) with an interesting set of choices. But he is a high rate tax payer - and that tax revenue would leave the country along with his job. We'd probably have to leave too tbh.

I'll never forgive Buffoon Boris for the substantial part he's played in this fiasco, him and Cameron - setting the country on fire and then legging it.

Does anyone watch Ballot Monkeys on C4? Last night: "yeah we want Norway plus, we'll probably end up with Zimbabwe minus".

emilythomson313 · 30/06/2016 14:54

I still cant get rid of all the negative emotions.

Well, that's exactly it. I've not yet seen a Leaver not mention immigration as one of their reasons for voting. Whether the government likes it or not, that's a massive part of what this 52% mandate is based on, and it's their own fault too. So they're going to have to do some world-class weaseling, risking civil unrest and loss of votes, or actually deliver that and wave goodbye to the City. Disastrous either way.

Figmentofmyimagination · 30/06/2016 16:03

Christ I'm so tired. I wish I could think about something else for longer than 10 minutes. And I wish I could sleep at night.

MelanieCheeks · 30/06/2016 17:59

Yes, I've been reminding myself of the need to de-stress, somehow. usually running helps, but I'm so tense even that is painful. Might try some yoga.

Figmentofmyimagination · 30/06/2016 18:08

This must be how it feels to live in the type of country that suffers government coups, stagflation etc. It's amazing how debilitating it feels. And now we're waiting, basically, to see whether anyone has a plan. It's so ironic (in a not very funny way) that boris, gove etc actually stood on a platform behind big signs saying 'take back control', just one week ago. Errrr.

Backingvocals · 30/06/2016 18:28

Me too figment. I wake with a start every morning at 4 with adrenalin rushing round me.

My Eastern European contacts are much more sanguine. They shrug as if to say "Governments. What did you expect?" Naively I thought we had, through luck and skill, got ourselves a stabler, more considered system. Idiot.

Just joining in solidarity with the tiredness. I am not eating very well either which isn't really helping.

Backingvocals · 30/06/2016 19:48

All my usual ways of soothing my nerves are not working. Sleep - not happening. Music - enervating. Walking - too much time to think plus will it ever stop effing raining? Had a big cry at the weekend and that helped a bit.

MelanieCheeks · 30/06/2016 20:01

I'm catching up on The Last Leg - it's helping.

And you know what? Knowing that you guys are here to share with is a big big help.

UnMumsnetty hugs.

InShockReally · 30/06/2016 20:10

I know this won't necessarily help a lot of people - but I'm watching a lovely Bob Ross episode on Netflix which is helping me this evening. His voice is so relaxing. He's soothing, and he's raising baby squirrels in this episode. I really recommend it as a little escape if you have some time. Brew and Flowers all

Namehanger · 30/06/2016 20:10

Angry beyond belief. Through my job clients, two in the last two days have opened up the conversation to gloat because of brexit. They have a slightly smug look on their face.

ApocalypseSlough · 30/06/2016 20:14

Ah yes! Avoid talking with cockwombles! I'm so lucky to live in a bubble of remainders- I went to the hairdressers today and everyone was talking about what a farce it all is.

Helmetbymidnight · 30/06/2016 20:16

I'm feeling slightly better right now- v glad boris has gone and surrounded myself with remainers and the soothing tones of mark carney.

MelanieCheeks · 30/06/2016 20:18

Oh yes, I have to hold myself in check, not making any assumptions about how people around me might have voted. That feels so alien!

And I wept with relief when a group in the office kitchen today were openly discussing how furious they still felt.

WaitroseTrolley · 30/06/2016 20:27

I don't know if any of you are tennis fans, but Wimbledon is helping me take my mind off things.

AuntDotsie · 30/06/2016 20:54

InShock OMG, yes, just discovered Bob Ross the other week - he's like valium!

SpringingIntoAction · 30/06/2016 20:58

It feels wonderful already

The FTSE has recovered and surpassed its pre-Brexit level.

ew Zealand is setting up a special unit to negotiate trade deal with us and Mexico and other countries also wanting deals

Dodgy Dave had to send out his paid Bank of England Governor Carney (ex Goldman Sachs man) to start talking down the economy and telling us that interest rates will be cut later this summer.. It was all starting to look too embarrassingly good.
