To listen to people talk, it seems we have turned into a nation of wimpy, whinging apologists.

''I'm so embarrassed''
''I'm so ashamed''
''I'm full of despair''
''I'm so sorry''
''My life is ruined'
''Please accept my apologies''

Stop bloody whinging and saying sorry.

How do you think this tail between the legs cowed talk makes us look to the rest of the world? Hmm
It's about time we all grew up, put on a united front and got on with things
Show everybody what we're really made of.

and breathe

Somebody has just started a thread called

I'm Ashamed To Be British. Hmm

This is precisely the thing the cringey, apologetic thing I'm on about.

You NEVER hear other nationalities, (no matter what their country has or hasn't done) saying that They're Ashamed of their Nationality.
Never.

There seems to be a self-flagellation streak running through our Nationality.
It's not attractive.

I think, in view of the lack of direction, it means:

  1. Shut up
  2. Smile beatifically
  3. Run around like a headless chicken, but purposefully

Although I hate to break it to you OP, but our national reputation was comprehensively trashed by 7am Friday - and that was before all the shit hit the fan, and we still thought there would be a plan.

Anniegetyourgun · 28/06/2016 23:35

I thought whinging was our national sport. If we want to carry on being as British as possible, to show the rest of the world our spirit is unbowed, we should carry on doing what we do best. Grumbling about stuff. Only an awful spoilsport would want to deprive us of that right, nay, that sovereign duty.

sorenofthejnaii · 28/06/2016 23:35

With all due respect, how do you know? There are a lot of countries in this world and a lot of people talking. This is mainly a UK forum in the UK. I bet that other people in other countries get a bit pissed off with the actions of their compatriots.

Whiteplate1 · 28/06/2016 23:36

Another thread to hide

sorenofthejnaii · 28/06/2016 23:37

Do we need:
The Bulldog spirit?
Dunkirk spirit
A stiff upper lip?

Any more cliches?

MrsSpecter · 28/06/2016 23:38

Whiteplate you seem to spend a lot of time posting that rather than just hiding the threads Confused

iwantadragon · 28/06/2016 23:39

i don't think our national reputation was trashed.
I think the rest of the world was watching with interest.

What's trashing it is all the in house bickering.

The people who voted out then admitted they 'regretted' it have done the most damage of all.
It's one thing to be that stupid, so be it, but is there any need to broadcast it? Shock

People need to stop being racist towards others as well and to stop making people feel unwelcome in this country, this referendum has definitely brought out true colours in some people!! 😒

LauderSyme · 28/06/2016 23:41

What we need now is some leadership.
We've just had the climax of a 40 year long argument and you want people to unite?
My dear, it's too soon.
We need this quote too: "Why do people say 'grow some balls'? Balls are weak and sensitive!
If you really wanna get tough, grow a vagina. Those things take a pounding".
Grin

I'm trying hard to find any posts where I've mentioned those words, but I can't find them. Probably because I haven't used those words.

Oh wait, there is one post where those words have been used.

Yours.

Tbh the only handwringing I've seen since Sunday is on here Most people are getting on with it I think

Especially the racists.

The trouble is that for lots of leave voters the actual fall out of Brexit is still really theoretical. It's something that will happen at some point a few years down the line. But for lots of others, the fall out is now. As my friend found out during his shift today where a patient refused treatment because 'I voted you lot out'. And then are the people whose jobs are on the line, or have already been given notice or work in a sector that is directly reliant on EU funding that will, without a tiny doubt, disappear once we exit, if not before. For those people this isn't theoretical. So to keep banging on about getting over it, growing a pair, being pathetic because we haven't gotten over it already takes a special kind of wilful ignorance.

PringleLicker · 28/06/2016 23:42

How can we pull together when there is no one in charge who will give us a clue which direction to pull?

Creatureofthenight · 28/06/2016 23:43

You go ahead and get on with it, Dragon. I didn't create the mess, I'm not volunteering to clear it up.

sorenofthejnaii · 28/06/2016 23:44

It's not what the rest of the world thinks. I presume you've heard the phrase 'it's the economy, stupid'. That's what matters at the moment. And the people that matter to our economy, the people who invest, the value of our companies, the pound, gilts etc - that's what the world is watching.

And right now, that is all uncertain. So we can be as positive as we want. All pull together. That makes no difference. It's out of our hands now. We've had our little vote and taste of real democracy.

op What do you think of the way the world is looking at the UK as a place to invest at the moment?

iwantadragon · 28/06/2016 23:44

Why do people say 'grow some balls'? Balls are weak and sensitive!

Brilliant!

To be fair to me at no time did I mention Balls.
Grow a pair could refer to anything Wink

OP posts:
ModernContinental · 28/06/2016 23:44

The poster referring to Scotland as a 'region', it is very much a country.

iwantadragon this thread would make more sense if you specified England as your country.

HowBadIsThisPlease · 28/06/2016 23:45

I feel like there is a huge difference in perception between Leavers and Remainers about the magnitude of what has just happened, and it isn't because Remain lost and are taking it harder for that reason.

What happened is immense. And bad. Remainers understand this, and this is why they voted as they did. Leavers: some didn't think it mattered much, now get it, and regret their votes. Others didn't think it mattered much, still don't get it, and start threads like this.

sorenofthejnaii · 28/06/2016 23:46

Oh wait, there is one post where those words have been used

OP This is a very serious situation. These are serious times. Saying we should pull together - do you know what - we have fuck all influence now. It's out of our hands.

We are living in serious times.

iwantadragon · 28/06/2016 23:47

Yes I'm English.

OP posts:
beetroot2 · 28/06/2016 23:47

This is what happened:

The People of Great Britain were given a vote to either get out of or stay in a bureaucratic dictatorship.

The majority voted to get out.

On the subject of immigration, yes controlled immigration is a fantastic thing that has enormous benefits.

The only people that have benefitted from "mass" (and it has been mass) immigration are the wealthy.

The average working person has not benefited from any of the above.

If the vote went for remain, I, as an out voter, would not be acting they way there are now.

Balletblue · 28/06/2016 23:48

It is frightening. But we still have to live our lives whilst being frightened, if that makes sense.
And I really resent being frightened for reasons that were entirely avoidable.
It's like being a passenger in a car crash.

PringleLicker · 28/06/2016 23:48

YY Scotland is a country. UK apparently is a unified sovereign state. Who knew

GarlicStake · 28/06/2016 23:49

iwantadragon, there is not a molecule in my body that wants to unite and link arms with a bunch of racist, xenophobic idiots 'patriots' who can't understand a fairly simple economic or political fact.

I am trapped on a neo-fascist island with no government. This is not a cause I can get behind.

When England gets a government, it will go out of its way to make me poorer, more isolated, more badly housed and more unhealthy than I already am. It will do the same to every other resident it deems unprofitable. There'll be an extra supply of unprofitable people due to the loss of jobs they voted for.

Buy British? What the fuck do we produce any more, and can I even afford it?

The world sees England & Wales as weak because we've just bloody proved it. We've made ourselves cheap and shown ourselves up as both silly and unpleasant.

It's like being in a rugby team and stomping off the field, saying you can play just as well without the others. Sure, you'll get matches - with all the crap teams who can beat you now you're on your own!

sorenofthejnaii · 28/06/2016 23:50

If the vote went for remain, I, as an out voter, would not be acting they way there are now

Well - as has been mentioned on here a few zillion times, there is no fucking vision for what Leave want. Instead we've got massive economic worries and concerns. Months of uncertainty. An EU that's pissed off with us. Infighting in our political parties, A potential recession.

And people are told to pull together and grow a pair Hmm
