Brexit

To ask if Leave voters would still vote the same way, knowing what they know now? And what people who didn't vote now feel?

I think I'd find it easier to accept the result if I knew that the majority of the country were still happy with the decision to leave, now that they realise that the economic predictions were not scaremongering, that there really is no fallback plan for how to forge a new deal with the EU and now that the leave campaign appear to be backtracking on many of their claims.

No judgment, it's just that the decision is not binding yet. There are reports in the media of people regretting their vote to leave but I don't know how widespread a feeling that is.

I voted leave and would again.

For the record I am about as far from uneducated as you can get as are the other leavers I know.

I didn't vote and don't feel any different than yesterday or the day before.
A bit of a weird question.
If I'd wanted to vote I would have done, like the others who didn't, I presume.

I am a little bit towards leave, so would have voted this had I been so inclined.
I don't like politics and try to live my life so that most of the decisions made don't affect me. I don't think MP's or Gov represent us at all, and they learn how to lie from a very early age at their public schools Grin

oldharrysgame · 25/06/2016 21:21

Pound "bounced back" because the Bank of England said we can prop it up with stacks of emergency cash. Not quite "bounce back".
We'll get through this but it is not a little blip.

SlimCheesy2 · 25/06/2016 21:25

You don't think politics affects your life new?

Wish that was the case for me.

Salene · 25/06/2016 21:27

Crunchymum absolutely have a plan

I Expect things to be more expensive , interest rates to change , Huge changes in the country I know . I survived the 2008 crash , the sky did not fall in nor did I suddenly drop down dead. The going got tough but we all made it through.

I can survive the rough coming our way and I will happily survive it so my sons have a better future

A worthy sacrifice to make for my kids.

madein1995 · 25/06/2016 21:35

I didn't vote (I regret it now) and would vote leave if I could

MadnessReigns · 25/06/2016 21:36

Salene, This storm that you are willing to ride out.....i presume that you are probably financially ok to ride the storm. What about those who voted out, who have very little to begin with, who have low income, rent/mortgage to pay, who perhaps rely on some sort of benefits or top ups in the form of tax credits, who just wanted the foreigners out and NHS getting so many millions a week instead of EU. They will not be able to riide this out. They will be hit by the cuts and tax rises coming their way. You might be able to ride it out, but many many will get swept away.

Babysafari · 25/06/2016 21:37

As a remained I think what I'm finding so hard to accept is that this is international and permanent.

It's unpleasant when your party doesn't get in but you get over it, you know there'll be another chance in 5 years. You know even if the party fucks everything up, another can pick up the pieces.

This feels so unknown, and there's no going back.

The atmosphere feels horrible like falling out with your neighbours only on a huge scale.

SallyMcgally · 25/06/2016 21:39

We didn't all make it through in 2008. Many many people were destroyed. I was living in Ireland at the time and there were so many suicides as a direct and tragic consequence of the crash.

Roonerspism · 25/06/2016 21:39

Selene nailed it.

Actually, I'm even more pleased given the UK stock market has fared better than those of our continental neighbours.

I think long term this will be far, far better for the UK than the EU.

I'm sorry for our European neighbours. And the atmosphere in the UK is horrible

AppleSetsSail · 25/06/2016 21:41

I voted remain and can't believe how a bunch a self serving neo liberals fooled so many of you - it's true that as a group the leavers are less educated and older and I'll never forgive you

The epitome of a Bremainer. Thanks for summarising that so succinctly.

I voted leave and remain pleased with my decision, we were expecting some volatility (my husband shorted the pound on Thursday). Great Britain will emerge stronger.

HubrisComicGhoul · 25/06/2016 21:46

I made it though 2008 because I had a lot of savings, my divorce, redundacies (3 of them) and life ate through that. I'm retraining and we are on the bones of our arse at the moment. I'm not entirely sure how we are going to survive another recession and I'm very scared. Also I'm far from the worst off person I know, any hit the economy takes will be devestating unless the government acts to protect the poor (fat chance of that)

For the record I voted remain.

Moanranger · 25/06/2016 21:49

I would not be at all surprised if after a couple of years of economic chaos, endless negotiation with the EU, we end up with the following trade agreement with EU: unrestricted EU migration, have to follow EURegs, have to pay an EU subsidy. So, pretty much the status quo, but we will not be members of the EU, so no seat at the table.
I think that if you voted leave, then when you or your kids lose their jobs, or benefits are reduced, or taxes go up - all very likely as a result of Brexit - you cannot complain. Suck it up.
I have heard a couple of people comment that they voted Leave but thought Remain would win. I.e., it was a protest vote on their part, so rather uneasy at the result.

maisiejones · 25/06/2016 21:49

I voted leave. You can't base the opinion that leavers are regretting their decision on a few twats on TV saying stupid things about their reasons for voting leave. I'm glad I voted to leave and I'd do the same again. It was obvious there would be a period of unrest whichever way the vote went and people are fuelling the hysteria. Everyone needs to calm down and stop the ridiculous speculation. I find it quite insulting that remainers are implying we didn't know what we were doing, as if none of us leavers had the intellectual capacity to make a reasoned choice for ourselves.

Roonerspism · 25/06/2016 21:50

No one know what the agreement will be but the EU does not hold all the chips here. They need a decent deal with us as they sell more to us, than we buy.

Merckel isn't stupid.

Eebahgum · 25/06/2016 21:53

I voted leave and would again. I did a lot of research in the run up to the referendum and made, I believe, an educated decision. I fully expected things would be rocky in the aftermath and that finances may be tight for a while. As others have said, I voted for long term gains not short term security. And despite the accusations of many, I voted because I believe it will give my son the best possible future.

Roonerspism · 25/06/2016 21:54

I am amused by the assertion that 17 million people in the UK are thick and/or racist.

That we ignored the multiple experts tells me hugely that people were about to embrace the uncertainty and go for it. This is immense.

I feel lighter. I have felt downbeat about the position of the U.K. in Europe for years. I'm hugely energised by this.

Oh wait - no - I'm seriously thick and didn't realise we wouldn't get £350m back this week. Can I vote again?

mrsclooneytoyou · 25/06/2016 21:55

I voted leave and would vote the same.

People need to calm down and just get on with it now.

arethereanyleftatall · 25/06/2016 21:58

Voted leave and definitely would again.

AppleSetsSail · 25/06/2016 21:59

I am amused by the assertion that 17 million people in the UK are thick and/or racist.

To say nothing of all the non-voters who the Bremainers assume to be in their camp. They're like Bremainers in that they're enlightened, but at the same time too lazy to save the country from thick racists.

Eebahgum · 25/06/2016 21:59

Oh yes, and please do not base your opinion of what leavers think on the tripe being peddled by the media. They were shamefully biased during the run up and in the aftermath all I have seen is interviews with remainers talking about what a stupid mistake we've made, interviews with some thick as shit outies talking about their reasoning, and a few random people they've dragged up who think they made the wrong decision. Their agenda is clear for all to see.
We've had a lot of shit thrown at us over the last couple of days; whereas I believe too many innies were too quick to swallow the "truth" that the media presented without looking beyond the smokescreen.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/06/2016 22:00

Voted remain but wild vote leave the next time.....absolutely due to the hateful nastiness of other remainers on this site.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/06/2016 22:00

Would!!!

0phelia · 25/06/2016 22:00

Overjoyed.

Elated.

Well done us!
