Seriously? majority of people who voted for leave wanted control of our borders, we brought into your story of an Australian style point system now it seems there's still going be freedom of labour movement which is basically the same thing expect they get less legal rights.

I didn't just vote leave for immigration but yes it was a big reason and if I known this, if remain had a better hammered this home I bet MANY leave voters would not have voted the way they did. If anything if this happens, many leave voters will join the remain voters in rage at the lies we been fed. (NHS, Immigration)

I have been a vocal leave supporter on here but now I am feeling pretty scared about what I have voted for. I blame the remain campaign for having an totally shit and ineffective campaign and Cameron should never have been the leader of the remain camp, as majority of people despise him and don't take any notice of what he says.

Under another name I kept banging on about the break up of the UK if we leave and , as with so many other things, leave supporters said this was project fear nonsense.

Clandestino · 26/06/2016 15:39

I remember telling people there will be a rise in entitled racism. I was accused of scaremongering. The FB group below proves my point. There are already calls for whiter and English Britain (replace with England as you want). Everybody who felt chained by forced political correctness now feels free and all racist trolls are crawling out from underneath their mossy stones. As the uncertainty continues, it's going to get worse. And I truly believe that those voices will soon start having a go at the Scots and the NI unionists as they will be calling for strong Britain under the main rule of England. Wonder who's going to like it.

Clandestino · 26/06/2016 15:42

TBH, it may sound funny but I'd be wondering how different parts of Britain and NI will be cheering tomorrow at eight. My guess is there will be more supporters for Iceland than they have inhabitants.

StrictlyMumDancing · 26/06/2016 15:43

Ive already seen calls on Facebook to get rid of Scotland and to let Northern Ireland destroy itself. I can't believe how far we regressed as a nation overnight

RiceCrispieTreats · 26/06/2016 15:46

I'd be very grateful if those of you who are more knowledgeable about the implications of Brexit for NI could elaborate on those a bit.

I get that it's an incongruity to move the Western-most border of the EU to a place that has worked hard to make movement across that border easy.

I also get that it will ignite (has ignited) calls for unification with the RoI.

I don't get why dual citizenship is a problem, especially if it's voluntary.

What else am I missing?

StrictlyMumDancing · 26/06/2016 15:51

Until someone more knowledgeable comes along:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jun/24/northern-irish-peace-sacrificed-english-nationalism?CMP=sharebtnn_fb
My Irish (northern and republican) friends and family have said this isn't a bad summation to start.

RedToothBrush · 26/06/2016 15:53

I love Iceland.

I think I might cheer for them instead of my own team because I had no national pride left and tbh, I'm rather embarrassed by us right now.

Half my friends turned Welsh at the start of the tournament anyway.

freetrampolineforall · 26/06/2016 16:03

Ok rice - the unionists (usually Protestant)who are the majority in the north have fought for centuries to stay in the union, often at the considerable expense of the sizeable minority of Irish nationalists (usually Catholic ). Who fought back. These are all euphemisms for an ugly history. This is reason we have partition of the island of Ireland. It has been a tragic desperate fight for generations which finally came to a ceasefire with the Good Friday agreement. Mutual membership of the Eu made this possible. It is wonderful that there is almost a generation in NI who have not known the worst of of the conflict. I'm Irish descent myself btw. Christ only knows what the NI result will mean but no one wants to go back to life before the Good Friday agreement as unsatisfactory as many things have been in NI since then. Get it now?

BonerSibary · 26/06/2016 16:04

I havent swerved the EEA or EFTA question, it was always accepted that renegotiation must now be entered into. I think its naive of the remain camp to think the EU (who are inextricably linked to the EEA/EFTA) would happily allow us to remain in those arrangements whilst outside the EU council. There are possibly various options regards trade agreements post Brexit, one of which includes negotiating continuation of the single market. (And this little shitstorm thats exploded on this thread) To ask me to provide a detailed plan of all other options, sit round the table, and ensure its implemented, is as mad as asking poor Rebecca. Much as Id love Junker, or Angela Merkel to ring me this morning, I fear she wont.

Thing is, you're still swerving chris. You're not being asked to come up with any such thing, and you must know that. The post I referenced when I told you that you were swerving was the one when you said people had voted not to leave some bits but keep others, because actually nobody's voted at all on any settlement at all. We have the joy of that particular national conversation yet to come. It's going to be a rather big problem for Brexit.

So the problem isn't that you can't tell us how you expect your wishes to be achieved, or even that poor regretful OP can't either. It's that nobody in charge can either. As a pp pointed out, there's a power vacuum.

freetrampolineforall · 26/06/2016 16:12

Thank you strictly. Didn't think that I would actually cry over the result but the article you have linked to puts me pretty close. Boredom was great. It saved lives.

StrictlyMumDancing · 26/06/2016 16:14

Sorry for making you cry free. If it makes you feel better I've had my cry over this too. Unmumsnetty hugs

RiceCrispieTreats · 26/06/2016 16:19

I do get that, thanks trampoline.

Unionists have been royally shafted by English nationalists.

As have all their other Union members, including the 27 other EU countries in their other Union, but perhaps excluding Wales.

RiceCrispieTreats · 26/06/2016 16:22

Boredom was great. It saved lives.

Yes.
This is so upsetting.

(EU bureaucracy boredom was also designed to keep France and Germany from killing each other, too.)

freetrampolineforall · 26/06/2016 16:24

No rice. It's a uk / Ireland thing. Other eu nations have their own stuff. We in UK and Ireland have a moral responsibility not to fuck up the peace process in NI. And Brexit betrays everyone there whatever their background.

RedToothBrush · 26/06/2016 16:26

I get it.
I wish I didn't.

Flowers
Clandestino · 26/06/2016 16:38

Yes free That's why I felt compelled to point out that Scotland is the much lesser of all worries post Brexit.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 26/06/2016 16:39

Christ is rice for real? Being allowed to chose just the one nationality that people identified with was central to peace in Irealand. Being foreced by necessity to claim a heritage/nationality/citizenship that goes against people's core identity and identity as a community will not go down well. Whether unionist or republican. Being able to "be" the nationality they identified with was key!

"lucky" to be dual - are people really that ignorant of what goes on in the non England parts of the UK??

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 26/06/2016 16:40

" Northern Ireland " that should say

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/06/2016 16:43

Ian Paisley Jr who is a Brexiter is encouraging NI people to apply for an Irish passport. Now I'm all for Remainers claiming an Irish passport if eligible, but Leavers?!

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 26/06/2016 16:46

Mitzy I know leave voters who are digging out Irish grandparents (not literally Grin ) and applying for Irish passports.

It beggars belief! why are you keeping your options open whilst taking those options away from others? Sad

RiceCrispieTreats · 26/06/2016 16:48

I understand, although of course I can't fully understand your personal pain and I'm sorry about that.
I'm "other EU".
Our "own stuff" is that we know that nationalism in Europe causes wars, and Brexit is a betrayal of the system that was created to prevent that from ever happening again and an invitation for populist movements to rise up again.

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/06/2016 16:50

Exactly! The irony is breathtaking.

The EU is awful. Get us out now!....................but er, please can I have an EU passport and keep some of the perks?

Fuckers.

freetrampolineforall · 26/06/2016 16:54

Among the NI fans at the footie, I saw a banner "Norn Iron. Our footballers kick with both feet" (Catholics are often called left footers if the reference escapes you) . Peace, jokes, pleasing boredom, creativity and prosperity is what I long for for my NI compatriots. And for me.

freetrampolineforall · 26/06/2016 16:56

Rice- name the last war among EU members.

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/06/2016 17:05

'"Norn Iron. Our footballers kick with both feet"'

Love that!

The 2016 Euros has been a great unifying event for NI.
