I regret the way I voted.

After a long day reading Facebook (didn't announce on there that I'd voted out), colleagues talking and family (who do know how I voted) complaining, I really wish I'd voted to remain.

I read a few bullet point articles and felt swayed by the amount of money were were paying to the EU. But I feel as though I'd partly not researched enough and also believed the hype.

Seeing the pound falling and friends worried for their jobs etc, I feel as though I've done something really bad. In fact, I'm sure I have.

Does anyone else regret the way they voted, whichever way that was?

Max
TTIP is still coming and yes I think you are a fool to think otherwise

loobylee · 26/06/2016 21:20

I voted leave and do not regret it one bit. It's a democracy so, let's just get on with it! The whole thing was a waste of money and I think it would be a bigger waste of money to do it all again

CountryLovingGirl · 26/06/2016 21:21

I voted REMAIN and don't regret my decision at all. I would definitely vote the same again. I am shocked at how many people did not research their decision. It has created a mess and the world is laughing at us.
I worry for the future of my children and the UK. If Nicola Sturgeon gets her way then Scotland will leave the union and split the UK up. We, England, will then be a VERY small country. Will we make it out there in the big wide world? We will lose our beloved Union Jack.
I really hope that this vote is declared void by the UK Government and that Article 50 is not triggered. As for Boris and Farage...I dare not comment on the actions of these 2 fools!

Kummerspeck · 26/06/2016 21:23

The petition is being investigated for fraud here. Apparently some people signed multiple times and others circulated it on social media so getting signatures from people overseas and not eligible to vote

I have never had a particularly high regard for the media but they seem to have whipped up all sorts of panic and hatred over the last days and are now just downright lying. I watched the interview with Tony Blair this morning in which he said he did not see a possibility of how a second referendum could be carried out. "As I'm looking at it here, I can't see how we can do that" but added that you can't rule anything out. They are reporting this as him saying another referendum is likely.
Manipulative twats

Lua · 26/06/2016 21:24

Sorry to ask again, but to me this is a critical question.... can any leave supporter tell me who they think is capable to lead us after this referendum result? and what is the likelihood that this person will have the legitimacy to do so?

Since Cameron was clearly against the leave he obviously could not be seen to be the one to sort this. So whom did you think would be capable to sort this very complex situation we find ourselves in?

Greenandmighty · 26/06/2016 21:24

I voted Remain and am glad to have done so. I can understand that you must be feeling regretful now cappuccino because now that deed is done, more detailed facts rather than fiction are being laid bare. Such a complex decision regarding Britain's membership of the EU should never have been put to a referendum and Cameron should not have permitted it.

WestieMama · 26/06/2016 21:24

Well I think it is stupid to moan. It is done now. If remain had won then there would be people who wanted to leave moaning that their future is out of their hands. Also other countries are now saying they want referendums because they are not happy with the EU. Sweden and the Netherlands are looking into it. At the end of the day we were a great country BEFORE we joined the EU and can be again if given a chance. After all other countries survive well without being in. Australia is a prime example. We need to stop moaning and work to make this GREAT BRITAIN instead of just Britain. After all we triumphed world wars and can again.

Emmaroos · 26/06/2016 21:25

@SherbrookeFosterer: If only it were that simple. The reality is that this vote could bring down the EU. Unless they savage us in negotiations and we are utterly destroyed by leaving, our leaving fuels the far right in France, Germany and Poland and everywhere else they are rearing their head. It also encourages Putin to think that while Europe is distracted he can put further pressure on the Baltic states. The EU was already under pressure - Britain leaving could break it.
OP: You are right to feel that you made a mistake. If you weren't fully informed then you should have abstained. But I don't hate you and you need to put it behind you and move on - at least you have learned from the experience. My husband's job will undoubtedly relocate to the EU as will much of his sector along with the very high taxes they pay. If his office relocates (almost certain) that's about £100million pa in income tax gone from the exchequor, not to mention the VAT, council tax, etc that all those people pay. And that's only one office on one floor of an 11 story building, all of whom are at risk.
All we can do now is think very carefully about who we vote for in general elections the next time around. We are facing into (this is obviously opinion as nobody can tell the future) some very tough years where there just won't be enough money to go around. Leaders will have to make very difficult choices and I believe everyone will take a hit in standard of living. Knee jerk votes for politicians who will squeeze the rich (so much that they up sticks and leave taking their cash with them) or politicians who want to dismantle the welfare state (watch 'The Wire' to see how that plays out) or far right racists who claim that foreigners are the root of all evil will appeal to many people because in times of economic stress people tend to retreat to extremes of the political spectrum. We have to resist that and try to vote for politicians somewhere in the middle who will protect the economy, but not at the expense of peoples lives. Who will expect the wealthy to contribute but not by killing the golden goose. They will need to take many unpopular decisions and we will have to look past the outrage in the Daily Mail or how it affects us and be prepared to make sacrifices that are fair for the greater good.
We can't undo the result of the referendum but we can become a more mature, considered and less self-serving electorate. They do say that an electorate gets the politicians it deserves. I want us ALL (leavers and remainers) to vote in a way that rewards a braver more decent type of politician.

3gorgeousgirlies · 26/06/2016 21:26

You did the right thing in my opinion LuLu, voting leave. Don't listen to any one who makes you feel bad.

Rishaar · 26/06/2016 21:26

Oh for goodness sake BonerSibary, stop being so obtuse! You asked which court the cases went to, assuming ECJ... I was clarifying. Then you asked if I was a solicitor, and I clarified. Where I work has little to do with my vote, which is why I didn't go in to it in detail in my first post. I only alluded to the fact that sovereignty is a massive issue and that I have seen firsthand some problems from being in Europe.

I'm afraid if you are trying to push me to say "nah, it's just cause of immigration like the news and social media is implying" I'm afraid I won't. To simplify... "our" laws can be "overruled" by EU law. That is a fact and you know that is a fact. I don't feel that I need to justify my vote any further. I could have voted Labour cause I like red and leave because I like odd numbered words... Frankly it's nothing to do with anyone how or why I voted a particular way. If people don't like that, then go live somewhere with a fascist government, cause that's what happens when democracy is stifled.

damepeanutbutter · 26/06/2016 21:26

I voted leave and do not regret it one bit. It's a democracy so, let's just get on with it! The whole thing was a waste of money and I think it would be a bigger waste of money to do it all again

The biggest waste of money was the wiping of £2 trillion off the value of Britain - an amount that could pay for the EU for 120 years. That is what I call a waste of money.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/06/2016 21:29

I voted Remain and I don't regret it. I'm sorry that you voted Leave without checking the facts Lulu. But my friends and 100s of ex colleagues who will lose their jobs if we leave are really, really sorry.Sad

Mynamesnitrainman · 26/06/2016 21:30

If you feel you have been lied to. (You have by the way) start a petition. DO SOMETHING www.gov.uk/petition-government

JandOsmummy · 26/06/2016 21:30

Topsop I totally understand how you feel. My OH is polish and my children have a Polish surname - their future just drastically change.

More than the hideous mistake made Thursday to leave the EU that has damaged the future prospects of our children the way this campaign was fought has just legitimised racism in this country i love.

To those that voted out for reasons they feel morally proud of and following plenty of research of the facts - so be it this is democracy and your consciences should be clear.

To the rest of the brexiters - especially those that voted without due care shame on you - shame on you.

Huppopapa · 26/06/2016 21:31

Churrist.

Smlins · 26/06/2016 21:32

If you think that in its desire to trade with other countries, the British government won't set up its own version of TTIP, read this link. It was our government which was pushing it in the face of opposition from France.

Trastevere · 26/06/2016 21:35

I voted Remain and feel angry about the result because I think lots of people didn't bother researching the facts before making their decision, and now we are all going to suffer badly. This was probably the most important vote any of us will ever have to cast in our lifetimes.
Please, if you regret it, DO something. Email the government. Start another petition. Anything that gets your voice out there. And encourage others to do the same.
I'm so sad about what's happened. :-(

BonerSibary · 26/06/2016 21:37

I'm not being remotely obtuse Rishaar. When told that you were wrong to say we have no influence on EU law, which you unquestionably were, you cited cases at your firm going to the ECHR. You didn't only allude to sovereignty being a massive issue at all. If that's all you'd done, there'd be no problem. You said something that was bollocks, which is why you're trying desperately to move goalposts. EU law overrules ours sometimes, we don't have no say in EU law. Those are facts.

Coulddowithanap · 26/06/2016 21:37

I voted to leave after plenty of research. I don't regret my vote.

pickles90 · 26/06/2016 21:40

Emerald

I can see that you are a Brexit person... chin up...

BonerSibary · 26/06/2016 21:40

Also people, I'm not telling anyone how they ought to feel about their choice, but 'it's a democracy' is not a reason why someone should or shouldn't regret their vote. It makes no sense to even bring it up.

havingablondemoment · 26/06/2016 21:43

Wisest words I've heard all day were along the lines of 'for those of you who voted leave it probably won't be as wonderful as you thought and for those of you who voted remain it probably won't be as bad as you fear'

Verbena37 · 26/06/2016 21:43

You don't know you were wrong OP......that's the thing...nobody really knows, not even the 'experts'.

Sounds to me as though your main worry is what your friends and family think of you. Perhaps they're putting pressure on you because of how you voted.

Just tell them you did what you thought at the time. Don't even raise it as an issue.
Chill.
If you had voted differently, the outcome would have been exactly the same and tbh, it could be a really good thing.

karenJULIEdye1 · 26/06/2016 21:45

I think that is very wise and something I hope is true.
