I regret the way I voted.

After a long day reading Facebook (didn't announce on there that I'd voted out), colleagues talking and family (who do know how I voted) complaining, I really wish I'd voted to remain.

I read a few bullet point articles and felt swayed by the amount of money were were paying to the EU. But I feel as though I'd partly not researched enough and also believed the hype.

Seeing the pound falling and friends worried for their jobs etc, I feel as though I've done something really bad. In fact, I'm sure I have.

Does anyone else regret the way they voted, whichever way that was?

Its all up for grabs at the moment, the vote could get overturned because of Nicola Sturgeon, she has been told that Scotland can stay in the Eu if they become independant, so anything could happen, looks like Labour could get a new leader too and we could have a genral election, it couldnt get any better!

GingaMummy · 26/06/2016 18:25

I voted leave and do not regret my decision. I firmly believe that we will be better off in the long run. There will inevitably be a period of adjustment when the pound will fluctuate, but it will stabilise. Stay strong and trust us.

sleeponeday · 26/06/2016 18:26

Shazza have you a link for that, about Sturgeon? I'll be delighted if it's true, but I've not seen that as EU stated fact, just her hope?

janmag1 · 26/06/2016 18:27

I think that this vote has restored democracy to this country, things will be far from perfect but they were far from perfect before, and at least now the people who rule us will be accountable to the people who pay their wages and no longer will they be able to say "oh well we're in Europe and we have to do things this way"come on brits get behind your country, all this wailing and moaning and woe is me is making things far worse than they need to be.We have two years to come up with a plan let's all try to make it the best it can be,make your voices heard and make your MPs represent what you want them to THATS THEIR JOB

bojorojo · 26/06/2016 18:27

SallyAnne - Trade deals will now take half a lifetime to complete. We don't have enough trained people to do them. Lots of firms will relocate in the meantime. If we don't stay in the EAA, the city of London, our main exporter, will lay off 100,000 people. The EAA agreement will mean free movement of labour. You may not regret your vote, but you have not understood the consequences. Unemployment equals no money. For those unemployed and for the government to improve anything.

People have had anti immigrant tendencies in this country for generations. I guess you are too young to remember the "No Blacks" notices in landlords windows in the 1950s and 1960s and the Rivers of Blood speech by Enoch Powell. We have not always welcomed people and the people who were scared then have descendants who do not welcome immigrants now so Farage did not find much trouble in getting votes. It is not the fault of successive governments that people are anti immigrant. Blaming government is letting racism off the hook.

There is no reason why young people cannot do well and get a good job. In fact they can work in the NHS, care homes, restaurants, hotels and on farms. But, hey, they don't want to. It is easier to say immigrants have taken our jobs. No, they have not. They turn up to interviews, have relevant qualifications and are reliable.

There will be nothing but unrest because of this. There will be no healing as thousands are laid off, forced to work abroad and feel betrayed by selfish people who did not understand what they were doing. The recriminations have only just begun. Humanity and a better future? No chance.

Wallykazam · 26/06/2016 18:27

Thank you for being so honest OP, I have a friend who voted leave and still trying to justify her reasons even though there is no basis for her reasoning. She is a highly educated lady and a daughter of immigrants, yet she voted leave. It cannot be helped now, you can't change things, but I appreciate you coming on here and talking about your feelings, it cannot be easy. Even though I voted remain, I have faith that as one of the most successful nations in the world, we will make it work somehow.

widgie · 26/06/2016 18:28

Dont be sorry . You voted for the principles of democracy. We were no longer in control of our laws and borders. we were being controlled by non elected administrators in Brussels. Where henious murderers like ian Huntley were using human right legislation to get out of prison or terrorist were claiming abuse of their human rights to be returned to their homeland. We have the rest of the world to trade with. Europe is a failed experiment where half of it is in debt to Germany. The euro is bankrupt as is the gravy train that is Europe. All those southern economies that didnt stand up to the economic rigour that enabled them to join the euro will eventually default anyway. Our money was being spent on meetings such as to decide the correct shape of bananas or to throw money at corrupt farmers in southern Europe. You voted for our democratic right to govern ourself. Dont be sorry it will all come out in the wash.

sleeponeday · 26/06/2016 18:28

Stay strong and trust us.

Trust who, though? Who is "us" - and why should we? Leave have freely stated that they have no plan, and they think that is Cameron's job because he is the PM. How is that meant to engender trust? Confused And how is "staying strong" meekly accepting something you think is an utter disaster for your country, instead of trying to avert it by any means possible?

NameChanger22 · 26/06/2016 18:29

I voted remain and I warned many people that this would happen. I'm very, very worried now. So many people in the UK, Europe and all around the world will be affected badly by this decision. My biggest fear is that some of them will want retribution. Lots of people around the world already had a dislike for us. Arrogance and ignorance will be our downfall.

We need to put this madness right while we still can. Whether you voted leave or remain we all need to stand up and say we will not let this happen.

lljkk · 26/06/2016 18:30

TRUST??!!

Oh fig me. Is that like the constituents who elected Nigel Farage & Daniel Hannan & expected them to actually turn up to their MEP jobs and do some MEP work? Well place their trust was... not. Ha!

trufflehunterthebadger · 26/06/2016 18:32

They turn up to interviews, have relevant qualifications and are reliable

Yep. IME it was never the Eastern European workers that didn't bother turning up for their shifts or were late or didn't give a shit. Most of the Poles I have worked with worked very hard for the shitty minimum wage jobs they did. Much harder than any of the British youths that turned up late, spent their shift on their phone and moaned when you asked them to do something

Jayfee · 26/06/2016 18:32

Yee let's go for the Irish neverendum....hiw do they get to do that??

bojorojo · 26/06/2016 18:33

Democracy is not a single referendum. Individuals and MPs do not make decisions about companies relocating or making staff redundant." Make your voices heard " is just more Leave rhetoric for "what the hell do we do now"? My voice is different from yours, janmag, so what are we asking for? Nothing will change and this is a democratic nightmare. Slogans and easy to remember one liners have won the day. Sadly, intelligent debate and understanding of the real issues did not. But, hey, we all got to vote, so that's alright then!

freesia33 · 26/06/2016 18:34

Don't regret your vote. It was your choice and you are entitled to make it and further, YOU WERE IN THE MAJORITY.
It was always going to be bumpy in the first few days and I can't say anything that SallyAnne hasn't said in her brilliant post. It is not the end of the world, it may be the making of our country. Were were not the only country unhappy with the EU and they had the chance to listen and give a bit, but they chose not too. Look at the unemployment that was already rife in the EU countries and the recession we have been through while a part of the club. I was 'in' but as I see it, I live in a democracy and I'll get behind how the majority of my country voted and make it a success.

cerievans1 · 26/06/2016 18:35

I'm sorry but I can't offer you any reassurance. My opinion is this is going to be disastrous for the economy and society as argued by the remain campaign. I am not sure why so many supporters of leave are surprised. I was horrified on Friday morning to find the country had voted to leave, especially for my 7 month old daughter and what state the country will be in when she grows up. Again, it is not really your fault, 17 million people voted the same way.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 26/06/2016 18:35

We can't trust "you" whoever "you" are. There is no Brexit plan. There is no one in charge. David Cameron has resigned. No one thought Leave would win.

Independent Scotland welcome to join the EU, says Merkel ally
Posted at 18:02

An independent Scotland would be welcome to join the European Union, a senior German lawmaker and ally of Chancellor Angela Merkel has said after Britain's vote to leave the bloc, Reuters reports.

"The EU will still consist of 28 member states, as I expect a new independence referendum in Scotland, which will then be successful," said Gunther Krichbaum, a member of Ms Merkel's party and chairman of the European affairs committee in parliament.

"We should respond quickly to an application for admission from the EU-friendly country."

bohomum · 26/06/2016 18:36

Sign the petition all of you. It may help and there's little else we can do: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215 My mother voted leave becuse she believes all the immigrants will be sent home. This generation should have been denied the vote. They won't have to live with the consequences of their bigotted, rascist ignorance.

Lindsxxx · 26/06/2016 18:38

No, I don't regret my decision to vote leave. I did my homework and ignored what the politicians said (let's be fair they're all lying sacks of shit) I would vote leave again in a heartbeat. Look at us, the world hasn't ended, we've not all gone up in flames, indeed the pound is near enough at normal levels and plenty of countries are lining up to trade with us.
For me and all of the friends of mine who voted leave it was absolutely bugger all to do with immigration. We were all very aware that in order to make trade deals we would more than likely have to accept freedom of movement.
It does seem that project fear did a magnificent job!

Jasonandyawegunorts · 26/06/2016 18:38

This generation should have been denied the vote. They won't have to live with the consequences of their bigotted, rascist ignorance.

You don't think that a little... hypocrytical?

bobbyspit · 26/06/2016 18:38

If you getting rid of workers that quickly its nothing to do with the vote.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 26/06/2016 18:39

While there were some valid reasons for voting out, I think there are two significant blocs amongst the OUT voters who are going to be very disappointed: (1) Those who have never come to terms with the loss of the British Empire. (2) Those who suffered badly because of globalisation.

Leaving the EU won't restore the Empire, nor will it make us immune to globalisation (quite the opposite is likely!)

Democracy, eh?

bojorojo · 26/06/2016 18:39

widgie. You are wrong. The vast majority of laws are made here by our Parliament. The bananas quote was a joke! Did you really think that was serious debate? The European Courts are not the EU!!!! So sad that decisions have been made based on believing this utter rubbish.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 26/06/2016 18:41

I voted leave and don't regret it one bit ......... And before you ask both myself and my husband work, own our own substantial home (small mortgage fixed for 7 years) don't spend all day on our phones and watching jk as many people have written out voters do on fb We are three days in give it time. What's done is done, if you now regret it how certain were you in your vote in the first place ??
