I regret the way I voted.

lulucappuccino · 24/06/2016 23:58

After a long day reading Facebook (didn't announce on there that I'd voted out), colleagues talking and family (who do know how I voted) complaining, I really wish I'd voted to remain.

I read a few bullet point articles and felt swayed by the amount of money were were paying to the EU. But I feel as though I'd partly not researched enough and also believed the hype.

Seeing the pound falling and friends worried for their jobs etc, I feel as though I've done something really bad. In fact, I'm sure I have.

Does anyone else regret the way they voted, whichever way that was?

Mums net PLEASE Start a petition for all the people who are regretting their vote to leave to be given a second chance. I fact why doesn't everyone be given a second chance to vote. I hav' heard a single remain voter regret their vote but I have heard scores of leavers being regretful. You are a powerful network DO SOMETHING

FankEweVeryMuch · 26/06/2016 18:42

I was away with 19 adults over the weekend and almost every single one of us know a person/ people in your position OP. There seems to be loads of people in your position.

PizzaFlavouredCupcake · 26/06/2016 18:42

I willing to bet that some kids did more research than most adults that voted brexit. Has anyone else read the articles about people googling what the EU is after voting the idiots

mummyof3kids · 26/06/2016 18:42

Many Londoners were stranded due to floods and cancellation of public transport. I voted as soon as I got home from work but many could not get home in time. I had to go a few miles away from my home early evening and got stranded with my two youngest kids. Saw many people who had been stranded for hours, walking miles between stations to find one that was open. I could not get taxi or bus and had to walk, took me till after midnight to get home. I am disappointed with the result of votes, but we have to find a way to make it work now.

SallyAnne7300 · 26/06/2016 18:44

With respect I'm not too young to remember those things - I come from a family of immigrants and overall we have all been welcomed to this country. I have researched trade deals extensively and do understand what these mean - we so have people to negotiate these and we need to get on with it. I am an academic with a Phd. I spend my days with equally well educated and knowledgeable academics all of whom I spoke to extensively about this issue. In addition I worked in the markets for 10 years and understand fully the ramifications of leaving the EU - but I believe in the long term it's best for Britain for globalisation.

Humanity starts with yourself - we need leadership now and reassurance from leadership. Interestingly David Cameron was pro exit from Europe in 2009 google it there is an interview with him saying so.

Don't direct your anger towards me - look to those who created this in the first place. As I said before I didn't ask for this referendum - the issue was never a priority for me in choosing to vote but when faced with a decision I have done my best to make an informed choice. I assume you did the same.

freesia33 · 26/06/2016 18:45

Or did leaving open us up to globalisation?

Picoloangel · 26/06/2016 18:46

I voted out and would do so again. I'm a Cambridge educated professional with an Asian husband and a young daughter. I am pro immigration. What I have read and seen posted about leave voters has sickened me.
The intellectual snobbery and arrogance of the REmain campaign effectively shut down any legitimate debate on Brexit because the only reason to vote to leave was, of course, xenophobia and intolerance.
Well, the intolerance I have seen in the past 48 hours has predominantly emanated from the Remain campaign. So democracy is a great thing as long as they get the result they wanted? So elderly people should be denied a vote because they are going to die soon? So sharing "Guardian" articles complaining about "Daily Mail" articles with no sense of irony is ok?
I have respected, and still respect, the views of those who wished to remain but my vote has been dismissed as ill informed and bigoted. I studied the EU extensively and came to my decision from a position of information and with a heavy heart. For me, it wasn't about immigration it was about not having any kind of say in my future or that of my daughter. The EU is a largely autocratic organisation in which we are nothing more than observers. We have no power to vote out any of the decisions makers or to veto their decisions.
It felt like an abusive relationship to me and more so after what happened in the Feburuary talks when we left empty handed. They could have offered us some kind of compromise or incentive to change the course of our relationship with them but chose not to.
Yes, I am apprehensive but the tumult of the last few days both economically and politically was inevitable. Don't write us off just yet. Look to Norway who also made a brave decision and emerged stronger on the other side.
It is heartbreaking to see our nation so divided and, for me, if we have any hope of stopping the far right we need to pull together and respect one another. I am genuinely sorry for the worrying disappointment felt by the Remainers but please know that for some of us at least it was an informed decision based on what we truly felt was best.

Ladykj · 26/06/2016 18:46

There are many people regretting their decision.
Nothing has happened yet.
Please write to your mp and tell him or her you regret your decision.
I voted Remain and am speaking out on fb in favour of remain and some ppl commenting that I should accept the decision and move on.
It's ppl like you who will have more voice to swing the decision.
Write to your local paper. Speak out. Explain your reasons. Be brave.
You made a mistake. That's human.
It's not irreversible- yet!

bojorojo · 26/06/2016 18:46

Redundancies will have everything to do with the vote! Uncertainty, uncertainty, uncertainty. Turmoil with trade negotiations. Companies will be in crisis talks - it will be workers who suffer. And those depending on benefits. The referendum result will make us all poorer and the politicians who warned about it were right. However, the leavers knew better and believed Farage and Boris??!!! Unbelievable. Last time I looked they were politicians.

Brockbaby · 26/06/2016 18:50

You are not alone!! The Brexit campaign was filled with lies and they have absolutely no plan. Boris looks so worried and he should be!! I fully respect whatever people voted and what their decision was. I would like to remain in the EU simply because, as a mother, I want my DS to have the same opportunities his father and I had! There is a petition for a second referendum based on the fact that there is not a large enough majority. 51% is not going to cut it - too small for such a permanent enormous decision which will impact many generations to come. This is the petition - please spread the word through social media and email -

Marty85 · 26/06/2016 18:51

Look I voted remain and have been sick and tearful all weekend, I have struggled to be civil to my own parents who voted to leave and admit I've made my disappointment very clear on FB. That being said, we should never have been asked to make this decision, it is too complex and even the so called experts couldn't give us the clear, impartial facts required. You were uncertain and made your decision the best you could, remember 52% agreed with you and not all of them are ignorant racists as currently portrayed.

You are beating yourself up and I'm worried you could be depressed about it. The sun will still rise tomorrow and we will pull together and make this work. Who knows, we could end up stronger and you may have been right. Xxx

fromagepantalon · 26/06/2016 18:51

But I am absolutely sickened by the vile abuse that some remainers have been slinging around!

People on the internet saying you fucked up makes you feel sick?

Wow the abuse of immigrants happening and racism must really make you want to vomit then.

sleeponeday · 26/06/2016 18:51

Shazza sadly I don't think it will be that simple for Scotland. All EU member states have a veto, and Spain is not well disposed to the UK in general (Gibraltar) and in addition, they have their own separatist movement in the Basque area, who want independence - Spain is unlikely to want to support a newly-independent nation who has broken away from the parent state against that parent state's wishes. It isn't in their best interests.

I really, really hope I am wrong - it is invidious that Scotland should be dragged along in the English wake when they've made their own preferences so crystal clear. But sadly, I am not at all sure it's going to be up to Germany.

pontynan · 26/06/2016 18:52

I run a small business (15 of us) based in Wales, Germany and Spain. We tender for contracts (usually 2-4 years long) across Europe and need to put partnerships together with businesses or organisations in other countries to secure work. Three of our current tender partnerships have contacted us in the last 48 hours to say they want to replace us. We have told 2 staff that they will have to go as soon as their projects finish this year. The other 3 UK staff will be redundant after we move the whole operation to Germany in September. Oh yes, and we lost £15k on Thursday thanks to crash in sterling. Thanks Brexiters.

morebubblyplease · 26/06/2016 18:52

I despair. It was the most momentous decision for generations, and it may have been decided by people who didn't know what they were doing. I'll think of your regret in the plane back home when they kick me out.

Showmethewaytogohome · 26/06/2016 18:52

The politicians have been woeful in creating this situation - and when I say that I mean the Tory party. Ridiculous manoeuvring and using a referendum with billions of pounds of impact to fight for leadership - Yes Boris I am looking at you

We have all been used. I have had Leave voters apologise to me (I replied there was no need as I do not blame them AT ALL) I do however blame those that put us in this position

Brockbaby · 26/06/2016 18:53

Here is a petition for a second referendum - with already over 3 million signatures. Please spread the word!

CwtchyQ · 26/06/2016 18:53

It will be interesting to see what happens next - all of a sudden everything has slowed down quite dramatically. I would prefer it if had been more of a landslide either way, I feel it's too close to move on.

Oh, and by the way it's morons that think their vote somehow doesn't make a difference that got us into this situation.

Quite right.

Like the remain supporters who didn't bother to vote as they thought "remain was going to win anyway"

Perhaps some vitriol could be aimed in their direction, assuming there's any left over.

MikeWasowski · 26/06/2016 18:53

I voted leave and don't regret it at all. How can we say we live in a democracy if the people voted into power for this country don't have a real say in what we do/how the country is run anyway?! Did anybody vote for the leaders of the EU? Does anybody know who they are? Lol let's see how everybody feels in a few years time when those still left in the EU, as other countries will leave, are now being flooded with people who have every right to live where they want from Turkey and other "European" countries. Of course things look bleak at the moment especially if you believe all the bad press but in a few years we will all be glad that we left the EU. Oh and for what it is worth I am not a racist nor am I uneducated.

Badbadbunny · 26/06/2016 18:54

I voted leave and DON'T regret it. I'm not some thick daytime TV reader as leavers have been portrayed. I am educated to Masters Degree level and have a professional qualification. I speak to educated and intelligent people everyday in my work. I've not heard a single leaver express regret at their decision. The decision has been made and it should stand. There will be far more delays and dangers to the economy by more months of uncertainty. The sore losers need to accept that they've lost - we had enough negativity and lies during the campaign - it will do them no good to make out that leavers made a mistake or are too thick to know what they've voted for - it's exactly that kind of "we know best" attitude that people hate about the political elite and the unelected EU bureacrats.

Brockbaby · 26/06/2016 18:54

Sorry here is the petition for a second referendum with over 3 million signatures already

JAB2012 · 26/06/2016 18:54

Thanks for your honesty OP. As a remain voter I am still in shock and I am very scared for our future. And I am angry. I am angry at the weak remain campaign that did not set out clearly enough what the consequences are. I am angry that lies and mis - information was allowed to be so widely spread and remained unchallenged. I feel this is a form of fraud. I am writing to my MP (for what it's worth) to raise this. I feel strongly that we need to fight this. Voice our views and not stand by and sleepwalk into financial Armageddon. People didn't understand what they were voting for! And now 150000 Conservative members get to choose our next PM to steer us through this mess? That is not democracy.
