To be apppalled by the remain camp attitude

Rebecca2014 · 24/06/2016 13:13

On my FB feed, social media, TV we are being berated for voting leave, we are being called racist, thick, uneducated, stupid, poor, peasants, benefit scroungers...the list goes on. There is even an petition now to have another referendum because obviously the leave camp know absolutely nothing.

Boris Johnson was whisked away by the police when he left his house this morning as protesters were ranting at him, banging on his car. How is this democracy? why does it only run one way? Yet you cheer at this act of aggression.

I would understand if the vote was closer but it was not close, leave won by well over a million votes. Why cant you accept the results and look for a way forward together, why have a "me vs them" attitude.

The Labour heartlands voted the way they did because their MPs did not make a good enough case.

throwingpebbles · 24/06/2016 20:18

I agree Get
The remain campaign could have really gone to town on the blatant lies told by leave, but it was all a bit half hearted. Their reasoned and factual arguments may have worked for the educated but they needed a different strategy for others, who were voting with their hearts

Seeing so many today who seem to not realise that we vote for our European Parliament representatives!

WaspsandBeesSting · 24/06/2016 20:18

The brutal truth is that the chav end of the English electorate are lazy feckless whiners who blame everyone and anything for their self-inflicted woes and have no personal responsibility whatsoever.

Funny isn't it that dome Remainers have talked about the language of division and hate but think it's ok to say things like this.

WaspsandBeesSting · 24/06/2016 20:19

*some

HildurOdegard · 24/06/2016 20:23

I have never agreed with MrsDeVere in my life - but oh my poundland jeremy kyle watching dayzzzz retro.

Those 'parasites' were of course the 'idealistic yoof' who said yes in 1975 (albeit to something which evolved). Give your head a wobble and come back in 40 years.

grannytomine · 24/06/2016 20:32

No one got shot by a remainer did they? Poor Boris got booed, Jo Cox suffered a worse fate. Anyone hear Farage admit what they said about the extra money for the NHS wasn't true? I wonder when the penny will drop.

grannytomine · 24/06/2016 20:34

Cornwall is good for a laugh, voted out and now wants "reassurance" that they are still going to get the money EU promised them. I do hope they don't, surely if they have any self respect they wouldn't want to take it.

HildurOdegard · 24/06/2016 20:39

The bile is fascinating - usually there's uproar on MN when someone uses the word 'chav'. Describe 37% of the electorate as chavs and it's all hunky-dory though.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 24/06/2016 20:44

Carl I wasn't a Leave voter!! And I think it is pretty disgusting how the remainers in this site have been reacting. I feel ashamed for you and for for me. It is a DEMOCRACY!! People have voted...we accept it and move forwards.

Mooingcow · 24/06/2016 20:45

Hildur ditto ageism.

Normally a fabulous pile on; today we've got a free pass to blame the older generation for their unspeakable selfishness in voting of their own free will in a democratic referendum.

Blue-rinsed cunts Grin

HildurOdegard · 24/06/2016 20:50

IMO it's a democratic victory for all, no matter which side. Somewhere along the way we started to serve them opposed to them serving us. This had shown us ALL that when we rise en masse we can instigate change.

Didn't people vote in Obama on that very keyword? Change.

Haha blue-rinsed cunts. Give them a free tv license and some wrinkly stockings and they think they run this gaff!

GetAHaircutCarl · 24/06/2016 20:56

lastgirl there is nothing in democratic about continuing to argue.

Farage said last night that in the event of a remain win he would keep campaigning for another referendum.

And why not?

You don't just give up and leave the other side to itGrin.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 24/06/2016 21:02

Carl I agree, but arguing is one thing and ad hominem attacks are quite another. My lovely DH voted leave as he simply hates the idea of a federal government....he volunteers with homeless young people, coaches under 11s as a volunteer and also volunteers with the Samaritans. Yet people on this site are inferring he is stupid and uneducated?? And horrible and unthinking? I wish I HAD voted Leave now as I can't abide being associated with the hatefulness on here today.

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 24/06/2016 21:04

I agree and lets not forget Farage said early on he would want a second referendum if it was a narrow margin

metro.co.uk/2016/06/24/remember-that-time-nigel-farage-said-52-48-votes-should-lead-to-second-referendum-5963900/

The remainers continuing to fight is justified. The opposition said this was 'unfinished business'.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 24/06/2016 21:08

But yes, I wouldn't mind at all a second referendum. I would campaign for one if that is what MOST people wanted.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/06/2016 21:12

How can it be ad hominem when it's all leave voters we are disappointed in? Not body knows your husband!

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 24/06/2016 21:15

and the rules say we could, If we chose. granted I am still a little fuzzy on this but surely That is democracy. Playing by the rules? ensuring a majority vote. An almost 50/50 split would be a very rash decision to leave imo but it is what it is.

Tories got in on a ridiculously small majority and this, I think, is what needs reform. That's what people are most disillusioned with. Their votes not counting. Safe seats. That's why so many claim they did a protest vote because they are fed up of feeling like they don't count.

Change the system, yes we would have More UKIP MPs but that would be real democracy.

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 24/06/2016 21:17

reading that back it does sounds right. What I mean is making sure there is a big majority and it really is what everyone wants. Right now we are split, angry and unsure what to do.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 24/06/2016 21:22

Seek the definition of ad hominem is a logical fallacy in which an argument is rebutted by attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself.[2]

You don't know my DH but he IS associated with the Leave argument.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 24/06/2016 21:24

So anyway - I feel pretty disgusted with the Remain voters' hateful ad hominem attacks.

HildurOdegard · 24/06/2016 21:25

Lastgirl - all I can attempt in the way of comfort, is that it is likely your husband is part of the SILENT majority. He is a good person, alongside many other normal, good people. If the vote had gone the other way, you know in your heart that he would still be the good man you loved yesterday.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/06/2016 21:25

Yeah I know what ad hominem means: it would apply if I were directly blaming or targeting your Dh. But I'm not, do you see?

SoupDragon · 24/06/2016 21:27

SoupDragon there is a difference between the status quo not changing and a change which turns millions of lives around. So no, they would not be happening exactly the same way.

Of course they would. The thwarted Leavers would be insulting and berating the Remainers for wasting a "once in a lifetime" opportunity.
