I know there will be difficult times ahead.

Staying there was also going to be difficult times afraid.

But I think it's the way forward ! I'm pleased change is on the cards.

No one has abused me on THIS thread but remainers have been thread stalking and badgering brexiters with why, wanting us to validate our voting choice etc. They introduce the subject in this timid " I'm just curious" guise then start flinging accusations of racism, ignorance, low class, stupid etc etc. It's happening all 9ver mumsnet all day today. So OP presumably wanted a safe place for us to celebrate without being bullied and, even though the thread title clearly says it's for celebration brexit, here you all are again. As I have said, lots of threads for you to "innocently" ask your goady questions. Now please go do it there!!!!! FFS!!!!!!!

TriniRedVelvet · 25/06/2016 00:54

over

DollyTwat · 25/06/2016 00:55

I am sad and stunned at the result, so I'm reading this thread to give me reasons to feel better
I need to hear the things you feel are going to be better, as the news is making me feel that it's all going to hell in a hand basket.

QuintessentialShadow · 25/06/2016 01:00

OP You have valid reasons for your stance. I know Norway and Britain have very little in common, aside from both soon being outside the EU. Your reasons for leaving are in many ways similar to why Norway has voted to stay out. It has not panned out that way for us, however...

You say:

How - my personal reasons are I am fed up with being told what we can and can't do by a parliament in Brussels whom I never voted in.

Still happens in Norway. We are not in the EU, but, if we want to export goods to EU nations, we have to follow regulations which seem insane to us, just to come to the table and offer our wares for sale. Of course, we have NO influence in EU as we have no representative there, as we are not members, so get no say in anything.

I do believe we have had a terrible immigration problem in this country, other countries have better controls in place.

Any Norwegian would say the same. EU does not address our concerns, we are not a member state.

I do not see why Brussels pays our farmers (or a proportion of) not to farm. Whilst we pay more for importing vegetables from outside uk.

Norway is not self contained with vegetables/meat, we have to import. Our farmers get no EU subsidy. They have to compete with EU veg, and the government give local farmers very little compensation. It is hard to be a farmer in whatever way you look upon it.

I think our housing and NHS struggle with the amount of immigration .

Same here. Unlike the UK, we cant even lure skilled and educated workers here.... (Maybe that will change for you now you are outside the EU too)

I am horrified by the threats from other counties e.g America who now say they will support us

Not sure about this.

We should have fair trade with Asia, America, Canada and rest of world on our terms not dictated to by Brussels on how much we can import, export, spend and purchase

Will they want to trade with you? The UK has a much larger population than Norway, I am sure you will be a much better trading partner to these countries than Norway, providing you have something they want to buy, and you can get the price you want without EU helping negotiate.

I wish you the best. Despite being a lone voice, Norway still dont want to join the EU. Despite having to fall in line with insane regulations, having no say or bargaining power, and having to accept X amounts of immigrants and refugees (that we cant afford or have infrastructure to handle), or go fetch nuclear waste from other EU countries and store in our country, as part of other complicated deals relating to Nato and whatnot, we want to remain outside. I also hope your currency will stabilize and not sink so low that you cant afford to import the stuff you need for prices that the average person is willing to pay, etc. On the bright side, with the pound low (if it remains low), more people will afford coming to Britain on holiday.

I really hope you will land on your feet and pull together as the fab nation that you are!

SpringingIntoAction · 25/06/2016 01:06

I have absolutely no desire to post on here trying to justify my Leave decision (I have written thousands of words on that over the campaign - all searcheable).

I have no interest in hearing any more Project Fear Project Smear tosh from the Remain side - you lost the debate. Get over it.

I am also sick of Remainers I know personally spouting their bile and demonstrating a total lack of knowledge or understanding of democracy when they tell me that a 1,000,000 votes is not a convincing majority and that we need to rerun the referendum -probably until they get the result they want. You can see why these morns felt so happy in the undemocratic EU.

Surferjet it's a bit hard to take the moral high ground whilst using highly offensive, disablist language.

AngieBolen · 25/06/2016 07:26

I love a celebration!

What are we celebrating? I really need some good news. At the moment all I can see is the pound's droppedConfused

I have my part shoes on, help me out here!

Muddlingthroughtoo · 25/06/2016 07:40

The pound would drop if we had a bad storm, hell the pound would drop if Cameron looked at Osborne the wrong way. It was always going to take a tumble. This is a short term knee jerk reaction. It tickles me how many can see into the future and have foretold an apocalyptic future. You don't see the Bank of England manager running around with his hands in the air saying we're doomed I tell you!

Surferjet · 25/06/2016 07:50

JE678
Apologies, had no idea. Blush

Jubaloo442 · 25/06/2016 07:51

Muddling I think throwing £ 250bn in to try to prevent a worsening of the situation we saw yesterday points to Carney being at least slightly concerned.
TBH I'm not entirely sure where that cash has come from or where it would have gone, but it worries me that it was needed. At least they had a plan though.

fourmummy · 25/06/2016 08:03

Angie - the drop in stlg is 5%. This is just noise. We've just had a big event! The FTSE finished the week as the best performing stock market - up 2% on the week. Also, the ECB and Bank of Japan, to use as examples, have been trying to weaken their currencies for several years in order to increase export and encourge inward investment. Everyone needs to calm down and carry on!

Grassgreendashhabi · 25/06/2016 08:25

I am glad I voted out and do not regret it. I am glad we are (hopefully) leavening the EU.

I cannot be happy and celebrate as half the country is unhappy. I am so sad about all the hatred- it is horrible. Lovely people who I really like, who last week were posting about LOVE as a reason to remain are now spouting nothing but hate at half the country. Calling leave voters racist/xenophobic, uneducated, and old (the ageism is awful- "old people shouldn't have had a vote because they are going to die soon). The "leaveism" of assuming everyone who voted to leave is exactly the same and did so for exactly the same reason is awful and so wrong.

Very few people know I voted out. I am not telling them as I don't want the hatred or the assumptions.

As to why I and many others voted leave- the arguement and reasons were given before the vote. The whole EU referendum thread is full of them- look back at it. Why would we want to repeat them now? What's the point? We have voted to leave.

In short though, I believe in democracy and that is why I voted Leave.

As for the markets etc- today is all about gambling. People are trying to make money- they commissioned private exit polls that told them we were going to remain and they gambled on that. Now the result went the other way, they are trying to cover their losses. It's not "real" - it's people gambling and trying to make money. And it's not that bad- if you look at Ftse over the last year, basically nothing has changed (Google FTSE and you can see the graphs). The job loss thread on here also appears to be speculation (although I was bleary eyed when I read it and might have misread it) but it appears that people were already loosing their jobs - no one was expecting a leave so those job losses can't be anything to do with leaving the EU, or people are worried about their jobs. I understand the fear, but nothing has happened yet and nothing is definately going to happen or even likely to happen- it is all just people speculating.

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 25/06/2016 08:41

Whilst I'm not celebrating, I don't believe this is "catastrophic" and a disaster for the UK.

Talk about London breaking away from the ROUK is unhelpful, and should be nipped in the bud post haste.
The rest of the U.K. have proved they are disillusioned and unhappy with the status quo, they will resent Londoners even more of this kind of patronising talk continues.

What the UK needs now is strong, positive leadership in government. A cross party commitment to throw the doors open for business. Show the UK they have listened and "learnt lessons" (boak) from the referendum result.

Cut corporation tax and NI for m/s sized companies, go and attract manufacturing businesses to open factories in the north of England. There is a lot that can be done to help people wanting to start businesses here.

We also now have the rest of the world at our disposal. So let us use this opportunity to attract them to the UK. The people have told the world they want change, so let's give them the tools to enact that.

We can now open the doors to businesses from South America, the US, Canada, India, China, Russia and Africa to the UK to start trading with us. More than the 500mm we were limited to within the EU. Let's encourage positive and net beneficial migration.

The drop in the £ means our exports look more attractive. The cost of goods and services are less. Surely this can only be a good thing?

MangoMoon · 25/06/2016 10:00

Finally had some sleep and woke up to realise that the world is still turning, the sun is still there & the sky hasn't caved in!

Seewhathappens · 25/06/2016 10:02

I am not a happy leaver I'm afraid, but I just came on here because I am curious to understand all perspectives. (I am not asking for an explanation here). I just wanted to say that I have realised that there is definitely a divide within the leavers - which is why you are all feeling that you are being called racist etc. Clearly there are some people who voted to leave for genuine honest well researched reasons(I'm sure that includes everyone on this thread ). Sadly, many people voted leave for different reasons to you - and you must realise that you have voted for the same side.
I think what people (remainers..?) are upset about, is that a proportion of the 52% WERE racist uneducated votes, and what with the vote being so close, it probably swung it for the leavers.

CoteDAzur · 25/06/2016 10:06

"The drop in the £ means our exports look more attractive. The cost of goods and services are less. Surely this can only be a good thing?"

It also means all your imports are now significantly more expensive - that's most clothing, oil, machines, engines, vehicles, pharmaceuticals, etc that just got 6-7% more expensive overnight.

Do you know what Inflation is?

CoteDAzur · 25/06/2016 10:08

Meanwhile, your interest rates are already increasing. Moody's just cut UK's outlook to Negative.

More reason to celebrate? Smile

sashh · 25/06/2016 10:15

Well 52 % of the country must be uneducated idiots so at least we have good company

That actually proves the point, 52% of the electorate who did vote voted leave.

That includes commonwealth citizens on working holiday or student visas. It doesn't include the people who did not vote, or those unable to vote, the 16 and 17 year olds who will be most effected by this, the EU immigrants who have chosen to make the UK their home and who are paying taxes and working.

EU (non British) citizens are not going to want to move here now so when the NHS has a shortage of staff they won't be replaced by German or Dutch doctors but ones trained in third world countries.

Just exactly how thick are you?

Badders123 · 25/06/2016 10:23

Well done!
you must be thrilled that trump, Putin and le pen support your actions!

Soooo...lets re cap;
No money for the nhs in fact - oops we made a boo boo
Can't stop migration - in fact the French may stop policing Calais border - oh oh
Billions wiped off the FTSE - not like anyone predicted that is it? Oh hang on....
All in 24 hours
Impressive!

FriendofBill · 25/06/2016 10:24

The NHS is already being dismantled.
Bursarys are gone.

I know it's going to be tough.

My mum remembers having electricity three days a week and voted leave.

We will get through it and emerge better for it. I believe the EU was decaying and it was time to get out. Like the majority.

You have free movement for the next two years...off you go.

Badders123 · 25/06/2016 10:26

Oh I'm thinking about it, believe me Sad
And my degree educated dh who works in manufacturing (remember that!?) will come with me
As will our 2 children
The UK will be left with the uneducated and elderly
Good luck
