We had a record-breaking 72% of the population take part :)

Our sovereignty will be restored

The first General Election in decades that will truly be about how the country is governed

MPs will be directly held accountable

We can plan a proper strategy for immigration and allocate resources to avoid overloading services

We can have a fair immigration strategy

We can be more versatile and responsive to world economic changes

We can decide how to spend our national resources

House prices are projected to fall meaning more people will be able to first time buy

There will be downward pressure on prices of goods as import terms (we buy more in than we sell out) can be negotiated directly with UK

There will be inward investment as many manufacturers will prefer a UK base rather than their current EU base

What other positives are there?

Many thanks sunnyspot. A sunny spot indeed on a rainy day :)

Brokenbiscuit · 27/06/2016 20:56

I do not have to be quiet and make friends because I was not born here. I can say what I think just like others can.

Absolutely you do, oblada.

And fwiw, I am very jealous of the fact that you have ongoing EU citizenship for your dc. I wish I could say the same for my daughter. Sad

PunkrockerGirl · 27/06/2016 20:57

To anyone who has been on the receiving end of racist abuse following the referendum, I am truly sorry. As a nurse, you are the cleverest, most skilful, empathetic and most tolerant colleagues I will ever have the privilege to work with.
For those who voted to leave. You've left us with this choice of leadership - a buffoon or a lunatic. Thanks for that. Did this not cross your minds when you were carrying out all that research into your vote? Hmm

thisisafakename · 27/06/2016 21:16

I hope the Leave voters realise what they have actually voted for with this, following Boris' confirmation that he want the UK to remain in the Eurozone for trade purposes but to officially leave the EU. The same sort of deal that Norway and Switzerland have.

This means:

Paying subsidies to the EU at nearly the same rate as before in order to be able to trade in the Eurozone

Being bound by nearly all EU laws in order to be able to trade in the Eurozone

Instead of being policed by the European Court of Justice, being policed by a different but very similar tribunal that enforces EU laws

Being bound by free movement of persons laws

But, there is a difference between what BoJo is promising and what we currently have. Because so far, you would probably think that it sounds exactly like being in the EU. The difference is that the UK would no longer have any control or influence over EU laws and policies, including any potential decisions to allow new member countries. But under the free movement laws, we would have to accept any citizens who wanted to work here.

So- it's the same BUT WORSE!!! Isn't that just grand? What was that you said about 'taking back sovereignty'? We never lost it, but we were bound by the supremacy of EU law. We still will be if we want to remain in the Eurozone. We kinda have to remain the Eurozone if we want to survive economically.

If only Boris had explained this before the vote....

sunnyspot · 27/06/2016 21:26

If it wasn't so monumentally tragic it would be laughable.
I still can t get over Reap's " Nothing has happened" comment. Are they living on a different planet, or just fingers in ears?

Cubtrouble · 27/06/2016 21:32

Oh good another fucking boring brexshit thread.

IonaMumsnet · 27/06/2016 21:32

Hi all,

After a great many requests, we're moving the bulk of the referendum threads to the new board here

Many of you, understandably, want to discuss this subject at length and in detail - this seems a good way to simultaneously keep AIBU and Chat moving for those who don't wish to participate. Of course, the conversations will still appear in Active.

PunkrockerGirl · 27/06/2016 21:40

Cub
Since it pains you so much, why did you click on the thread when it clearly had brexit in the title? Confused
Or are you oblivious to the fact that yes, this will affect you, and not in a good way?

This is so deluded it's funny.

I love the way they say at the end that they pay those they interview.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/06/2016 22:03

Oblada it seems you're doing your best to work yourself into a state of righteous indignation, but while you're at it please indicate where I suggested "migrants should be grateful for being allowed into a country" ... or that you somehow aren't entitled to your opinion ... or that you "have to be quiet" ... or for that matter what you know about where I've lived and in fact where I am now?

If you take the trouble to actually read my post, what I said was that, while that's "just me", I wouldn't personally consider it wise to suggest that the majority of folk in a country you've moved to are ignorant uneducated and all the rest ... though come to think of it, I'd extend that to anyone, whether an incomer or not

I don't expect you to agree with this, but to suggest it's fine to call people names like this and then call me rude does seem more than a little rich

oblada · 27/06/2016 22:23

Puzzled - please let me know where I have said that the majority of folk in a country I have moved to are ignorant uneducated "and the rest" (especially the rest :)).

I said I felt glad my friends had shown common sense and intelligence thus referring to the vote. Yes I do believe the Leave vote was generally uneducated. I am not the only one holding that view.

You have said "If that means what it seems to and you've moved to the UK from elsewhere, don't you think it's a bit questionable to imply that the majority of your new country's voters lack common sense and intelligence?
Personally I wouldn't consider that the very best way to (in the old phrase) "win friends and influence people" ... but hey, that's just me"

Clearly suggesting that because I was a migrant (to my "new" country) it was somehow unacceptable (to you) for me to make that comment about the Leave vote. Because instead I should focus on winning friends and influencing people.

However it happens that I am not interested in behaving the way you expect a migrant (or anyone) to behave. I wish to express my own views regardless of whether I make friends with them or not. (and to be honest 48% of a country is probably sufficient in terms of friendship)

I have seen much worse being said about the Leave voters and indeed could say a lot more. To be slated by you for expressing gratefulness at the fact that my friends have not voted in that way is actually a bit rich too.
