It's all getting a tad hysterical, no?

From the same people who are just yesterday calling for calm today whatever the result I'm now getting the most vile diatribe.

To hear them tell it over half those that voted are:

A) Poor or in shit jobs
B) Racists
C) Stupid and because they are less educated.
D) Old fogeys fucking up the country for the young'uns.

Is it that bloody hard to accept there were good reasons to vote EITHER way depending on your own circumstances.

The people who voted opposite to you aren't stupid because they came to a different conclusion than you did.

Honestly it's like the G.E all over again. Hatred and bile being spouted by people who are supposedly liberal and open minded but have no problem demonising half of the population and sneering at the less educated working class.

And I voted labour last election but was shocked by the reaction from my fellow losers.

62% of Scotland voted to remain. All Scottish areas voted to remain.
Indyref2 on its way?
Scotland got a Westminster government it didn't vote for, now it looks like we're leaving the EU even though it's very clear we do not want to.
I'm worried for my family unit, we private rent & are trying to save to buy a house. I'm worried our working rights are going to be diminished.

cecee you are of course correct, oh wait what ? It hasn't been at this level for 30 years and the markets haven't opened yet.

If remain had won you would be devastated about your children's future?

Yes.

I totally agree OP. I posted a similar thread. There's really no need for the spite and vitriol.

My company will be moving operations if there's a leave vote. I'm shocked, stunned and devastated. Sone dark times ahead.

I understand people are upset, lives have changed and obviously if you benefitted from the Eu these won't be positive changes.

This thread isn't intended to dismiss people who are worried or sad about the result.

Just for those people who are being incredibly rude, cruel and frankly quite right wing about the stupid, racist, working classes voting opposite to them.

I think we've had a lot of it going the other way for a long time, the establishment and elites etc.
Oh not demonising , but throughout the night a lot of talk from lots of different vote counts said there were lots of protest votes aimed at kicking the establishment.

If thats the truth then there are a lot of people who haven't fully understood the implications of this.

I agree that sneering is always unedifying and repugnant, but by definition the less educated (regardless of their social class, although it would be disingenuous to claim that this is not a factor in the unfair sphere that is reality) are less equipped to make an informed decision as to what will best benefit the population.

That is to say - if the decision ends up causing irrevocable damage, it will be the precise opposite of a win for democracy.

Democratic process is, I think, the best of a bad lot as far as systems go - nothing more.

Well yes - I think we may look back on this as the failure of democracy. The triumph of ignorance.

I agree with you OP.
What's done is done, no need to make shitty comments at people that voted out, they are just as welcome to an opinion as those that voted to stay

Um, I'm working class. I voted remain.

I live in an area of London with exceptionally high immigration.

It's not hysteria. I am genuinely really sad that so much of the country is Xenophobic. It's no use saying they aren't. Not all leave voters are racist. But it's totally naive to say only a minority are. It's simply not true. I would say more than half are. Much of my extended family are and voted leave.

More to the point, I guarantee there is not a single racist person who did not vote leave. There are actual neo nazis on Twitter going on about it.

I can't align myself with people like that irrespective of what class I'm from. I'm sick of being told this is a victory for ordinary working class people! It isn't a victory for me.

I'm not optimistic about the markets rebalancing quickly. This is the first day of a long, contentious, uncertain situation that won't be resolved for at least two years. It's going to be a very bumpy ride. Curious to see what happens to that London housing bubble, seeing as it's been bolstered by foreign investment.

And just as we were beginning to recover from the recession.

Peppatina · 24/06/2016 08:04

How on earth can you say around 8 million people are obviously xenophobic because they didn't agree with you.

You've really got to get over that, it's extremely devisive and almost like remainers are trying to dismiss a democratic vote result!

Also if all these people are xenophobic or racist where have all he fights been? Why weren't they all voting for BNP and UKIP the second they promised to chuck the bloody foreigners out?

It's s frankly ridiculous statement that I'm sick of seeing.

Yes there are racists who didn't vote leave.

I have extremely racist in laws who voted remain for financial reasons.

However I didn't deduce from this that all remainers are just racists that are tight.

I didn't say 8 million were.

The point I'm making, which keeps getting totally ignored, is that no not all leave voters are racist but that all racists will have vote Leave.

I actually could see some of the economic Leave arguments. But I could not align myself with people like Nick Griffin and Nigel Farage.

I think it's naive of the leave voters not to see that a shit tonne of your fellow voters have done it because they want to get rid of immigrants and for no other reason.

It's all over my Facebook and Twitter feed.

There were over 16 million (or was it 17 in the end?) votes to leave.

What is more than a half of 16 million? I believe you just called those people xenophobic in the post above.

I imagine various such scenarios are unfolding all over the country.
