I loathe and fear Theresa May, and I'm not being facetious.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/06/2016 13:34

Why?

Chalalala · 21/06/2016 13:36

My experience with UKBA has also led me to hugely distrust Theresa May. She's implemented some truly inhumane and unfair policies, all for the sort-term political gain of trying to stick to the government's unrealistic and entirely arbitrary cap on net migration.

Oh well if it's because you don't like any of them I'll take it with a pinch of salt then Grin

SapphireStrange · 21/06/2016 13:42

Yeah, I agree with others, her policies have been inhumane.

IamSlavetotheEU · 21/06/2016 13:43

For the simple reason that the people who tend to complain about the status quo (whatever that is, at whatever time) are the same ones who don't vote in the end. The vast majority of leave supporters (like it or not) are the disenfranchised, ill-informed, gutter press readers. They are also theoretically, the same people who would vote Labour, albeit for different reasons

complaining about the status quo but doing nothing about it is not the preserve of Labour voters but the preserve of people who just don't feel they have any power to change anything whatever their political persuasion.

On this issue I have never encountered so many desperate and angry people who are desperate to get out, get to the voting stations at 9am to do their cross.

I think people under estimate the anger and desperation on our streets. It worries me if we stay, what will happen to that energy. I might also point out their vote no matter how un educated YOU think they are bloody well counts.

Lurcio if people are voting to avoid a recession they've got a shock coming. There's a bloody great one coming our way regardless of whether we have stayed or gone

This is true, but the frighting thing is, we could be tethered to the failing EU trapped and flailing....instead of being independent and able to move swiftly, and respond as we need too.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 21/06/2016 13:43

This just popped up on my FB feed; it's a fair point: If anyone wants to be PM after Brexit, they're insane

Maybe none of the usual suspects, then?

Ah ok, I find I quite like her but don't know much about her tbf.

RedToothBrush · 21/06/2016 13:54

I don't like May's position on human rights and civil liberties. She's clearly as ambitious as Osborne and Johnson, but is not as obvious.

IamSlavetotheEU · 21/06/2016 13:54

You see I like TM, and have personal reasons for doing so, she has been humane to me.

IamSlavetotheEU · 21/06/2016 13:55

But I rather like Andrea Leadsom too, and think she would make a good PM

Flisspaps · 21/06/2016 13:56

I think 65% leave.

I'm a remainer.

SapphireStrange · 21/06/2016 13:59

Yes, I agree.

Fliss, that high?

shinytorch2 · 21/06/2016 14:02

Fliss - what makes you think it will be that high? Where are you in the country?

Londonmamabychance · 21/06/2016 14:04

I have no clue! But just have to tell you, bkgirl, a Euro army is very unlikely to happen, given that the EU doesn't even have a shared defence policy at the moment (yes there is an area of cooperation but it's still by far the countries own responsibility and as can be seen from the many last military involvements it tends to be 'coalitions of the willing' and NATO-based, not EU based) and if it ever did, your kids would never have to do service in it unless they volunteered, as most European armies these days don't even need to use conscripts because there are so many people who volunteer for service or want a military career.

bkgirl · 21/06/2016 14:07

The EPP is dominant both in the Commission and parliament. They want it and are seeking ways round the veto. I think that makes it very likely.

Londonmamabychance · 21/06/2016 14:11

But all the Member states would still have to agree...good luck with that one ; ) and the point still stands that even if it happened, conscription would be extremely unlikely.

Londonmamabychance · 21/06/2016 14:12

anyway, sorry, this thread was about the expected result! I really don't know but my gut tells me very tight victory to Remain.

Limer · 21/06/2016 14:21

Leave 56% Remain 44%

(David Beckham coming down for Remain has added another few hundred thousand to the Leave side)

IamSlavetotheEU · 21/06/2016 14:36

Those great European cities and their passionate fans welcomed me and my family and gave us the opportunity to enjoy their unique and inspiring cultures and people

Maybe David thinks this is a vote for the UK to stay geographically where it is, or float off into space Confused

SapphireStrange · 21/06/2016 14:44

Possibly he was just expressing respect and pride at being part of such a group of wonderful places.

Or he's considering the prospect of Brits having to get a visa to go to Paris for the weekend.

RedToothBrush · 21/06/2016 14:52

To be fair, I'm not sure which is worse, David Beckham coming out for remain or Leave.EU using a 20 year old quote about the pound / euro from Victoria Beckham to argue their case.
