Seems like it was a useful threat started by MrsBlackthorn and it hit the big 1000 so I took the liberty to restart it!

Original post:
My work has started quietly drawing up contingency plans for if Brexit happens. Same at DH's work. Could mean lots of jobs moving to Germany and Ireland at both our firms. We're already seeing far fewer people investing or spending money.

I'm bloody terrified. Could lose my job. House could end up in negative equity. And for what?

I don't even think it's "project fear" from the government anymore... News today showed investors are taking money out of the UK faster than anytime since the crash. People with "skin in the game" voting with their money.

I understand that for lots of people the EU referendum isn't about money. however, because of a lot of it leaving, stopping coming in, or just simply being worth less... Well that leaves us screwed for a very long time. Fewer jobs. Less tax money coming in - so less money for the NHS and so on. So even if we 'take back control', of what exactly. what will we be 'in control' of?

I'm really worried about "Leave" happening and me and my family being utterly f*ed in a few months time as a result. Has the country lost its mind?

Anyone else worried about where this leaves us?

Actually, I am still on the fence re leave or remain. My question was posed simply to see if those on the remain side are as willing to predict what would happen if we stay as they are about what would happen if we leave.

The fact that no one here (or among the experts) seems willing to is, actually, quite worrying. Presumably they must think it is a no risk option.

lavenderdoilly · 14/06/2016 15:08

Gove is doing it because he wants his kind of control - the kind where you can hide stuff in your wife's email account as a pathetic attempt to avoid UK information access laws. And Boris is after the PM job and would say anything to get it.

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:13

So you believe we don't have control simply because Gove says take back control Hmm

At least do some research!

How do we not control our finances? We get our tax receipts, we decide how to spend it and hand some to Europe. We get some of that back indirectly and directly.

How do we not control our laws? Parliament votes on our laws.

Our affairs? Again I am baffled by that one.

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:15

If we stay, things will remain as they are pretty much.... We go in cycles of austerity and times of plenty, we vote in the tories for a decade then labour for a decade as infinitum.
The EU continues to tackle things like workers rights, health measures etc. Because UK governments won't. We still have a human rights charter. We still get to vote our MEPs in etc.

lavenderdoilly · 14/06/2016 15:18

Grimble no one is prepared to predict the future in 40 years because it is foolish to do so. That doesn't mean that talking about a likely economic hit if we leave is also foolish. Even Gove admits it is likely. There may well be economic trouble ahead if we stay in. Most likely because of the problems in the Euro zone. Which we are not in but would be affected by in or out because we trade with EU.

60% of our laws are made in Brussels. If the Tories had made a law banning certain vacuum cleaners, the Tory rank and file ad the Tory constituency associations and clubs would have had the culprits guts for garters, whether they were Oxbridge graduates or not, and rightly so.

Instead, our represenatives masquerading as being in control told the Trot rank and file, who were close to rebellion over the issue, that it had nothing to do with them and was all down to "that Brussels lot". This succeeded in quelling the Tory rebellion, but it was touch and go.

That is why Cameron has been using the line "I am just as frustrated with the EU as you lot" but now everyone knows it isn't true.

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:22

claig I call bullshit on your 60% claim.

Evidence please.

lavenderdoilly · 14/06/2016 15:22

60 per cent of our laws are not made in Brussels.

'claig I call bullshit on your 60% claim.

OK, I will google for the Farage speech

nearlyhellokitty · 14/06/2016 15:24

Your reference is a Farage speech?

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:25

Sorry but I said EVIDENCE. Evidence. A farage speech is not evidence.

claig · 14/06/2016 15:25

'Your reference is a Farage speech?'

He was quoting an EU Commissioner who said it.

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:26

Am still laughing.

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:26

The EU commissioner clarified her comments since then.

claig · 14/06/2016 15:27

'A farage speech is not evidence.'

It is in a court of law. Can any of the Brexit experts help out with the figures on this one? I will continue the search in the meantime.

Under duress?

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:28

Hahahaha if he stood up and said that in a court of law, it would quite easily be shot down.

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:28

Under duress?

Oh you are so very gullible.

If farage said it it must be true eh?

Believeitornot · 14/06/2016 15:29

Let me clarify.

Find me some facts which back up your assertion please.

Just5minswithDacre · 14/06/2016 15:29

I am of the left but not the regressive left.

We need a bunker somewhere Smile

claig · 14/06/2016 15:29

'Hahahaha if he stood up and said that in a court of law, it would quite easily be shot down.'

Our justice system is not what it used to be, granted.
