Latest polling shows mums will vote for Brexit (46% leave vs 37% stay) because the EU is damaging family life & particularly harming children through overcrowded schools & hospitals due to immigration. It also says mums are concerned about security & terrorism.

So mums on here do you agree with this? are you worried about the impact of immigration in your children?

It sort of ate itself - started off all about liberty and ended up with mass executions followed by dictatorship and 16 years of war, ending in defeat, so, no, the king isn't still in Versailles but I suppose it depends on your criteria for a successful revolution. Not exactly a good illustration of what happens when you stir up revolution in Europe however.

It had other parallels in common with the sorts of pressures Europe is facing in the 21st C eg all sorts of serious climate problems in the last decade and start of the 18th Century - really unusual low temperatures leading to freezing winters, crop failure, economic downturn, mass hunger, terrible poverty and unrest.

I'd love to know how many of those bleating 'But I love being European' have actually bothered to learn a European language or two, or teach their children another language.

To me, one of the key differences between the UK and mainland Europe is how deeply reluctant British people are to speak anything but English. M

I think if UK 'mums' want to give their kids a head start against European counterparts, that's where they should focus their efforts.

If we remain, monolingual children will be at a significant disadvantage.
