Anyone putting any plans in place in case we leave?

I've just checked the EU referendum current polls and it's looking very close at the moment.

I wondered if anyone is putting plans on hold, or will change any plans they have if we leave?

Personally, I am wracking my brains to think of anything which will directly affect me. Although I wonder if there will economical turmoil and whether to plan for an interest rate rise (our very high mortgage). Which will in turn affect Dhs business.

If we remain, I'd imagine it's just business as usual.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Tbh I think the Obama thing is over played, he's immensely popular, apart from amongst the swiveled eyed loons.

Please keep believing it.

As long as you metropolitans sit in your EUphoric ivory towers with no understanding of what the person n the high street outside the Great Wen is actually thinking we will win.

So - more Obama.

I demand it.

PS There are 2 ll's in swivelled. Not that i should have to teach teacher to spell but we loons do like to be accurately described. Grin

Oh and spring you castigate me for posting links. Any source i use is vested interest, yet you without irony post to partisan websites.

Yes, if Oxford university is entirely EU funded I'd question it. But the fact is it isn't. Nor the cbi, ucl, or the BBC.

SpringingIntoAction · 05/05/2016 00:13

If you had any legal qualifications you would not even be attempting to argue this point. Let's just hope anyone reading this who isn't a lawyer can see through you as clearly as I can

I'll take that as an apology Buttered.

You get some sleep girl. There'll be a lot of cars queuing for your hand wash tomorrow.

lurked101 · 05/05/2016 00:16

Oh dear.. criticism of spelling on an Internet forum? Pot, kettle, black.

BTW part time teacher, part time economic advisor don't you know. Paid bloody well for both.

I'll just sip my wine and look over my garden at the London Park I live next to..

SpringingIntoAction · 05/05/2016 00:20

Oh and spring you castigate me for posting links..

I don't criticise you for posting links per se. I criticise you for your unfailing, unquestioning gullibility in believing everything that is shat out by a policy unit - but I suppose that's part of being a REMAIN voter

Any source i use is vested interest, yet you without irony post to partisan websites

Yes, I've noticed that too Grin

Nobody said they were entirely funded. Why do you keep making up stories?

My DH is Aussie...but we've left the UK 8 months ago for Oz. If we'd stayed, would he have been kicked out?

He only had "Unlimited leave to stay" as his Granddad was English...he never had a British Passport.

Limer · 05/05/2016 00:22

Working two jobs to make ends meet, Lurked?

The next generation will probably need to work three.

SpringingIntoAction · 05/05/2016 00:22

The voters who will decide the outcome of the EU referendum don't read threads like this, they don't click on links, they aren't interested in political infighting. They see their wages stagnating year after year, their costs of living continuing to rise, while hordes of migrants queue up to move here, resulting in ever-increasing demands on the already squeezed public services. They see the British countryside disappearing forever under concrete as the population keeps increasing at an accelerating rate.

Even the chattering classes won't give any credibility to someone who doesn't understand the difference between "your" and "you're"

Well said Limer.

I look at this as public service. While they are baiting me on here they can't be converting others to their cause. I keep 'em busy Grin

lurked101 · 05/05/2016 00:28

Working two jobs? No dear I don't really need to, I do both cause I want to.

If I'd have wanted to play with spelling I would have done so ages ago but thought it bad manners on an Internet forum.

I don't know - but if he had Unlimited Leave to stay it means what it says, so I cannot see why he would be asked to leave.

I do know that because the Government cannot control the flow of EU citizens immigrating to the UK it is cracking down on non-EU people coming to the UK, like Australians.

The Government is putting up the income qualification for non-EU migrants to stay in the UK from around £18K pa to £35K pa, to reduce the number of non-EU immigrants in the UK.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

lurked101 · 05/05/2016 00:32

Methinks your trying too hard..

Mistigri · 05/05/2016 07:47

plenty of people with legal qualifications know nothing about international law. Ask the average property lawyer about international law and they will say, "Don't ask me, it's not my area of expertise.

In fact, the more qualified someone is, the less likely they are to make the sort of absolute statements that springing does (along the lines of "need for EU migrants to worry, because they can rely on the Vienna Convention"). No one with legal training would ever make that sort of statement without supporting evidence and appropriate cautionary hedging of bets.

I really think MN needs to clamp down on bogus claims of legal expertise.

SpringingIntoAction · 05/05/2016 11:04

I am still waiting for your evidence of mass expulsions from the UK's in the past - the Romans don't count, left left voluntarily

Still waiting.

Personal attacks are the last bastion of someone with no compelling argument

Anyway, as the fear-mongering about mass expulsions seems to unquenchable in some minds it's probably worth spending some time packing a suitcase now - it will stand forever in the hallway, next to the Y2K souvenir as a reminder of Project Fear.

BeccaMumsnet · 05/05/2016 11:15

Hi everyone - can we please have a bit of peace and love? It would be great to keep the debate going.

butteredmuffin · 05/05/2016 11:30

Problem is Becca, Spring will assume you're only directing that comment at the remain side. It would be helpful if you guys at MNHQ could give a little more thought to how reasonable Spring's complaints are before just deleting people's posts, because it just makes her think she has the moral high ground.

We have stated off-thread that our post here applies to all on the thread.

To clarify, we haven't just been deleting any posts that are reported to us. We have been removing posts that break our Talk Guidelines from both sides of the debate.

I play by the rules.

I don't think I have the moral high ground - I know I have. Grin

Tackling the ref now. That's usually a Red card offence in football.

Becca is simply reminding us all that Talk Guidelines - like laws - exist to provide a framework in which people can operate by setting boundaries and defining what is acceptable. Most lawyers would know that already. Lawyers who find it impossible to stick to the law are disbarred.

butteredmuffin · 05/05/2016 12:18

Ok Becca, so can you please explain why my post asking Spring whether she was planning to contribute anything relevant to the topic under discussion (i.e. what contingency plans people are making to prepare for how their lives might be personally affected by Brexit) was deleted?

SpringingIntoAction · 05/05/2016 12:32

SugarPlumTree · 05/05/2016 12:56

I'm a big annoyed that thread currently isn't anything to do with what plans are being put in place and seems to have been hijacked by Brexit campaigners.

My DD has plans for next year that rely on her being a EU passport holder, she's leaving the country before the referendum. I guess nothing would happen immediately in the event of a leave vote but she is young anf we need to have all bases covered. This has nothing to do with whether I'll be voting in or out but just the situation which needs sorting. My Mother is dying so that's been taking precedent and we're a big late addressing this.

I have now emailed the Consulate re her eligibility for another Passport as I have dual nationality and they replied very quickly last night asking for further info. Hopefully the process is underway.

How is everyone else doing with it?

butteredmuffin · 05/05/2016 15:42

How long do you think it will take for your daughter to get her passport sorted, SugarPlum?

My plans involve potentially getting married, so we're just waiting to see what happens in the referendum before making any decisions!

SugarPlumTree · 05/05/2016 15:53

Don't know Butteredmuffin . She'll leave on her UK passport then switch to other if needs be as I would think we've left it a bit late to be sorted by middle of June. Sounds like it's a good idea to wait and see if plans involve marriage then !

butteredmuffin · 05/05/2016 16:14

We will get married either way, but we'd rather do it in our own time! But if the result is a Brexit vote we will probably do the legal bit this summer and the wedding bit next summer. Confused

butteredmuffin · 05/05/2016 16:15

Your middle of June deadline is quite stressful... ChocolateWine
