Report neighbour committing benefit fraud

Goldengoose1977 · 10/11/2025 17:29

Hi, I believe a neighbour is committing benefit fraud. She has a teenaged son that has been taken out from school due to 'ADHD' because he can't sit still in class.(Does however sit all day on his console). She is claiming DLA for him and also carers allowance. She does not need to give him any extra attention at all, He can dress, feed and wash himself like as well as any other teenaged boy. She also works 3 days a week so isn't at home all day anyway, So how can she be claiming to be a carer when she does nowt extra? Haven't decided whether to report or not, interested in other people's views on this. Thanks

I think it's unfair that someone should be getting over £600 a month for DLA and carers allowance by exaggerating her son's condition. I have to work 5/6 days a week to make ends meet, meanwhile she has had 2 foreign holidays this year. For the avoidance of doubt she isn't a single mum, she has a husband to share the parenting responsibilities who is also working (cash in hand i.e not paying tax, not contributing anything etc). This isn't conjecture, I know all this for a fact as she has openly boasted to me about how much she gets and how she doesn't do anything extra to warrant a carers allowance

So why do you only want to report her and not him then? Sexiest and judgy, lovely.

The Venn diagram between people claiming benefits fraudulently, and telling their neighbours all about it must be a circle.

😂

She told you she is committing fraud? Or she told you of her sons diagnosis and benefits award?

Told me it's easy money because no one checks she is providing additional care

In response to your 'think you'll get more' comment, I do not claim.any benefits whatsoever. I work for every penny I get.

And I do have first hand knowledge, As I've said previously she has boasted about it many times

So what's with the bitchy "I have to work 6 days a week just to make ends meet but they get 2 foreign holidays a year" remark?

You're jealous of a couple looking after a disabled child, and want to make their life harder and for them to get less for no other reason than you being bitter.

That nobody checks, doesn't mean she isn't providing care. She is also allowed to work on top of caring.

If you had read my opening post you will see I had no definite intention of reporting, I am undecided. And yes I think what he's doing is wrong, But he hasn't falsified his sons condition in order to get handouts

Do you fancy him? Because he absolutely is equally culpable.

How do you know he's not paying tax?

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 10/11/2025 18:11

Oh, and another question:

Why is the woman your target and not her husband? Why aren't you thinking about reporting him to HMRC for tax evasion if you think he's evading tax? Why are all your sights set on her?

You don't like her, do you?

Seawolves · 10/11/2025 18:15

You've missed the bit about a free car every three years. If he's working cash in hand I assume you are going to report him to HMRC too, after all he's still diddling the system.

Helloyellowbluemoon · 10/11/2025 18:20

She’s allowed to work so many hours on carers. How do you know this child’s actual care needs without living with him. Leave the women alone. Life is already stressful enough for her without your petty report. I hope you don’t report her.

dizzydizzydizzy · 10/11/2025 18:21

Well you can report it here:

www.gov.uk/report-benefit-fraud

I mean if she is really defrauding the DWP, it needs to be stopped but I suspect you have no idea of her struggles. It is extremely hard to get these benefits and you have to give absolutely masses of proper strong 'official' evidence, such as doctors letters.

I can imagine that your neighbour was so relieved having gone through the (very gruelling) application process and felt so happy to be awarded that she told lots of people, and you have misinterpreted that as cheating. I could be wrong and if you're convinced, tben go ahead and report it .

xanthomelana · 10/11/2025 18:23

I’ve got staff in my department who claim carers allowance. You are allowed to earn a certain amount of money whilst claiming it, she doesn’t have to be shackled to the house 24/7.

80% of reports fail. Taking away valuable resources for catching the real fraudsters.

Stop being so jealous

ginasevern · 10/11/2025 18:26

They'll know it's you that reported them so you'd better move house afterwards or your life could become pretty uncomfortable. Just saying.

Yes, you said that.

But if there were no reports then how would the investigators know about the 20% that you say are true?

Would I report - no.

But should OP report and it turns out all is above board then no harm done.

AlisonLittle · 10/11/2025 18:35

I probably wouldn't actually report it, but if your asked just tell the truth. My brother actually claims 3 carers allowances one for his disabled son which is genuine. The other two claims are for my parents, my Dad is actually still working. When my brother went to Greece for a week my mum and dad stayed at his house to look after his disabled son.

Pricelessadvice · 10/11/2025 18:37

Well I guess if you report her and it’s all above board, nothing will happen and she will keep her benefits.

Still, I don’t think I could do it. You never know what’s going on behind closed doors.

You can only claim one lot of carers allowance, it doesn't matter if you're caring for 1 person or 5.

Claimed for 3 people at the same time or at different times?

Goldengoose1977 · 10/11/2025 17:48

She has taken delight in informing me and her other neighbour on numerous occasions. Hence the need to only work 3 days a week

Was all this shouted loudly in the middle of the pub, where she could have a maximum audience?

Goldengoose1977 · 10/11/2025 17:53

She actually used those words?

I'm sorry but I find that hard to believe.

hyggetyggedotorg · 10/11/2025 18:43

She won’t be getting Carers Allowance if she works 3 days a week. There’s a pitifully low earnings threshold for it.

Thisismyusername1 · 10/11/2025 18:45

Carers allowance is £83.80 a week. To be entitled you have to be doing at least 35 hours a week caring. If your neighbour is working three days but caring the other four (plus nights) she is entitled. I’m sure there are lots of disabled people that would employ you to care for them for £83.80 a week for 35 hours work (if they can afford it).
