What's a good name for a tutoring business?

I am giving this some thought as a potential business venture - 11+ and CE tutition mainly.

Help me to come up with a great name. So many out there are terribly
uninspiring...like Aspire Tutors or Champion Tutors.

DS(6) has come up with Dalmation Tutors and that's the best we've got so far - '101 ways to success' [finger in mouth pretending to be sick emoticon].

Well done England!

How about Scutum Tutoring? It means shield, it could work - right? Is it a bit too much like scum?

claig · 23/06/2010 17:15

it is a bit too much like scrotum, not advisable

claig · 23/06/2010 17:16

also dangerously close to sputum

Juno Tutoring?

What are the possible downsides of using the name 'Advantage Tutoring'?

Would any one care to comment?

none it is a very good name, and lots of companies use it here and in the US. Slight disadvantage that.co.uk is not available

robie · 23/06/2010 18:01

I think you could be right about that claig.

I can't think of any downside to Advantage Tutoring or Advantage Tuition. It sounds reliable.

piprabbit · 23/06/2010 18:12

How about Athena Tuition? Greek goddess of wisdom, and your logo could incorporate a stylised owl.

claig · 23/06/2010 18:19

excellent piprabbit

piprabbit · 23/06/2010 18:26

.

Or if you think athena is a bit obvious, and like the owl thing how about an owl related name?

Tyto Tuition

Otus Tutoring

thedollyridesout · 23/06/2010 19:44

I'd thought of Athena but couldn't get past the chain of the same name (they sold picture frames and the like) that went bust.

I too have been searching Greek gods.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 25/06/2010 18:24

S&S

thedollyridesout · 25/06/2010 20:43

I love it Sweetness - that's the plan anyway .

What about A*Tuition?
Get Ahead Tuition?

I need help! Yet another request today, GCSE and A level. I now have 3 students lined up and 1 more in the offing...I need a name.....

Gold Star Tuition?

OP posts:
HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 25/06/2010 20:46

Tenpole?

thedollyridesout · 25/06/2010 20:53

Just realised 'Get Ahead' was robie's idea further up/down the thread . It's obviously memorable .

Housewife??

thedollyridesout · 25/06/2010 21:05

Is no one else feeling charitable inspired?

Where are you claig?

OP posts:
thedollyridesout · 25/06/2010 21:34

I suppose Friday night is not the best time for this - is it?

OP posts:
Ladymuck · 25/06/2010 22:07

Seriously, you don't need a name. Not if you are any good. The type of parents looking for 13+ prep will go on word of mouth. Don't waste time or effort on this and advertising. Instead spend time networking, make sure all your friends, especially those who are parents and teachers, know what you're doing. Let them know that you will have a list so that you can book children in advance (ie hold a space for the year leading up to exams). This business really works on word of mouth.

thedollyridesout · 25/06/2010 22:11

Will someone please give me a yay or a nay on this one....

'chalkandtalk tutoring'

OP posts:
thedollyridesout · 25/06/2010 22:21

I hear what you are saying Ladymuck, but it's not necessarily for advertising purposes. I would like to have a website where I can provide links and post useful information. What I am really looking for is a good name for my website I suppose.

OP posts:
claig · 26/06/2010 08:16

I'm not too keen on chalkandtalk, it is very clever but it may sound a bit flippant.
I really like A* Tuition, short simple and straight to the point, like A Grade Tuition

thedollyridesout · 26/06/2010 09:07

Thanks claig
