I wondered why some kid was handing out sweets yesterday and asked ds if it was his birthday, to which ds replied 'no, he's been on holiday' WTF?

snafu · 09/06/2005 21:00

Crikey michelle, you're looking slim. Been on one of our coddy's diets, have you?

Drives me mad too. DS can't have a lot of E additives so this rules our most of the Haribo-type rubbish that seems to be given out in school. Today he came home with a large, hard, multi-coloured lolly because someone in his class had come back from Spain. WHHHHHHHHYYYYY????

jampots · 09/06/2005 23:48

cod - hijack!

have you tried "magic eraser" from JML - £3.49 for huge block and it gets rid of sticky things. Very like the pricier Spontex one

michellemcmanus · 10/06/2005 10:30

hmm so it not just us then

It is not illegal to take kids out of school for a holiday. You are allowed to take them out for 2 weeks (10 days) as long as your child is not off excessively for sickness etc. I am taking my son out in october for a week but the other holidays we are having are in non term time but my son has not had any time off school since he had his tonsils out on january. We would never be able to afford a holiday if we only went in non term time!

michellemcmanus · 10/06/2005 10:54

yes
w e bear the cost in mindand book our holiday accordingly.

dont get me started ont his I will never agree it is a good thing.

Well we don't go away often but I would go in term time cos otherwise we would never go anywhere at all.

Enid · 10/06/2005 11:02

no

but would be horrified if they did

always look disapproving and say 'hmmm' when dd1 tells me about trixie's fab term time holiday in Mauritius

Enid · 10/06/2005 11:03

although considering a day off for dd1 so we can all go to Moors valley in the week

Enid · 10/06/2005 11:04

although she is school swot and I would have to lie to her as she would hate to skive off

misdee · 10/06/2005 11:04

oops, am off on hols this weekend, dd missing school next week, so best not take any sweets in after? no sticks of rock?

nutcracker · 10/06/2005 11:05

Girl in dd1's class has just gone off to spain for 2 weeks.

misdee · 10/06/2005 11:06

some people cant afford the prices for school holiday times.

would love to, as there is always more to do.

Kittypickle · 10/06/2005 11:06

Yes we get it and then I have to explain all over again to my DD that we are not being mean but do not believe that it is right to take holidays in term time and it doesn't matter if every other single child in the class does it, she isn't going to.
