Sorry blog only been going since the weekend so so far only written about Jo Magdalena and Usborne MLM schemes. Will write about more over the coming week or 2 though.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:27

dp's - direct payments. Money given by social services to families of disabled children (or to disabled adults) to buy in their own care. 5.30 probably a bit late for people wanting to spend dps'.

Did you see my babysitting post. I'm thinking of registering with findasitter offering to babysit for children with SN.

asdmumandteacher · 11/11/2008 23:28

we have someone luckily

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:29

I have to go to bed now, but if you have any ideas to share on the blog let me know. I think we many of us could do with earning some more and there is stuff out there that's flexible etc we just need to think of it!

chocolateteapot · 11/11/2008 23:32

Would you be able to do tutoring for the 11 plus maybe (have no idea what time of year they do it) as Poole, Bournemouth and Salisbury all have Grammar schools.

Or maybe a couple of weekend shifts in a pub, good way of getting to know some more people. Can DP take on anything extra at all? Have just emailed you btw.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:35

I've just remembered one of the best jobs I ever had- counting cars for the day. £50 but that was almost 20 years ago so would be lucrative now. It was quite good fun.

Have added that onto the list to research for the blog.

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:43

jimjams I think I will be a regular on your blog.

Dp is going to try and get some extra work as well.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:46

I'm quite enjoying writing it. Just have no time to follow up on the ideas so thought I may as well pass them on! I store them up as potential ideas for the future though. Am working full time at the moment, but that will finish in 2 years.

Really must go to bed!

Will write something tomorrow, probably about tutoring. Did a lot of that for a while.

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:47

oh but before I go to bed- EASTER REVISION. Pays very well. If you can get a week or 2 off over easter start applying in January. I'll put that in the tutoring post.

thumbwitch · 11/11/2008 23:51

write short stories and send them off to all and sundry women's mags to get them printed...

twinsetandpearls · 12/11/2008 00:00

Do you mean rude short stories? I do teach about Jesus you know. Gandhi would spin in his grave, well he would if he was not cremated.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 12/11/2008 00:04

lol twinset - no, I was on a totally different tack from the previous suggestions!

twinsetandpearls · 12/11/2008 00:06

I was teaching about cremation today and a kid asked me if the people standing next to the fire could get ill from passive smoking!!

hellish · 12/11/2008 02:08

Adult ed colleges pay 20 pounds an hour.
You could teach literacy / numeracy / IT, ESL

blueskyandsunshine · 12/11/2008 02:16

Teaching English to foreigners? Either corporate or in a college? I did it in a foreign country without a TEFL. Or even if you can find the contacts (ie. corporate for expats ("inpats") "English conversation". Where companies pay for people to practise their English in small groups.

EachPeachPearMum · 12/11/2008 12:26

selling on ebay (though you probably got rid of loads of stuff when you moved)
delivering leaflets
Market research
Taking in ironing
None of these are well-paid I'm afraid
Do you have room for a lodger, businessman or student at all?
What craft/hobby skills do you have?
Can you garden/sew/bake etc?

TeeBee · 12/11/2008 13:15

Some schools have extension programmes (weekend groups) run for children on the G and T register. Ours doesn't but would love it to. Could you do something like this? Look in the dreaded G and T thread if you dare for some ideas of what is included. Not saying that these classes should be run for those on the G and T register only - I don't see why all children shouldn't get access to the types of skills these clubs offer. Philosophy would be a wonderful session to lead I think. Expanding their thoughts, etc. I would definitely pay for my LO to go to something like this.

Takver · 12/11/2008 13:26

Daft question but I assume you have checked you aren't eligible for any tax credits. I don't know how much teachers earn, but when we came back to the UK I was surprised (more like amazed and delighted) that we got quite a bit of extra cash from tax credits despite us both working and having what I considered a reasonably respectable income.
There are child tax credits and working tax credits, I can't remember which is which atm but one you only seem to get if you are very broke, the other you get up to a higher income level (well over the level at which you are paying them tax, which seems mad to me but there you go).

EachPeachPearMum · 12/11/2008 13:42

TSAP- is DP working now you have moved? If not, you would definitely qualify for tax credits. (sorry I can't remember what he does)

And if you want to be Xenia mk2... you better get on with popping out 4 more babies

2point4kids · 12/11/2008 13:49

If you teach religion could you set up your own evening class that meets once a week and charge an amount for a 6 week course on 'Why are we here?' or somesuch thing like that.

poppy34 · 12/11/2008 13:49
