Any ideas?

Anyone done this.

Will apply for exam marking.

Any legal complications.

oh come along twinset, there are niche markets out there, where's your sense of adventure?!

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 22:58

I love the yard display idea as well. Always have since I first spotted it. If anyone local (and creative!) wants to give that a go I'll join in, I'm just not remotely artistic!

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 22:59

Evening classes pay OK. Often looking for tutors.

asdmumandteacher · 11/11/2008 23:00

I did exam marking for MEG years ago...God it wasn't worth it for the amount of time spent

I am thinking this too as want to send son to indie school....i need to earn more but then as a music teacher i could always teach piano etc

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:01

Think exam marking is the one to avoid if possible. Also you have to do it when kids are around.

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:01

I teach in a state school.

I would only sell on resources I have made on my own.

OU teaching is quite poorly paid for the amount of effort. A level/GSCE better.

janeite · 11/11/2008 23:05

I believe they still are in theory "owned" by the school anyway, although some heads would overlook this. It doesn't pay much anyway, unless you could get involved in text book production for some of the big publishers, which I imagine isn't that easy.

How about running childrens' parties at the wekends / in the holidays? Or getting involved in playschemes in the holidays.

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:07

I have done party catering at home before when I was a SAHM, although my mum was around to help and she was much better than me. But a possility.
Great link jimjams could do dog walking.

What about shop work one day a week? How much would that pay?

OP posts:
janeite · 11/11/2008 23:09

Do you have a responsibility in school? A TLR point might make enough difference money-wise and extra work in the same place might be easier to manage than more work in another place.

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:11

cleaaning?

Dp is not happy with shop work or cleaning and says I should be able to do something using my skills.

I would have thought you could earn far more using your teaching skills that shop work. I really think you should contact your council and ask about opportunities -have a look on your council website for adult and family learning. Contact your local extended schools team. We are desperate for teachers to do extra work in evenings and holidays where I am.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:13

Not a lot: minimum wage per hour. Something like MLM would be better if you chose a decent company. You could even leave a pile of stock in local businesses then do a collection one day a week. You would earn more than shop work. I used to tutor on Saturdays- again more than shop work.

I interviewed an osborne books organiser - have done books myself in the past (mini IQ) - on a medium sized party (or office collection) you'll make more than you could earn in a shop.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:14

Dog walking is surprisingly lucrative (I was surprised) but not sure how easy it would be to fit around a job- depends how many hours you're working.

asdmumandteacher · 11/11/2008 23:16

Yeah i have heard that some dog walkers are on a right packet...
Also childminding can pay better than teaching if you are prepared for 4 or 5 kids in holiday time?

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:18

Janeite I have just given up 2TLR points to take on a new job! Hence my struggle am down by about £500 a month as wekk as ouor living expenses going up by about another £800 recently. There is nothing at the moment TLR wise becasue my present school is so lovely positions don;t become vacant very often.

Ah just gone from a scary place to a lovely one?My hubby did that- salary drop of £10K (about 5 years ago)

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:19

What time do you finish TSAP? After school care for kids with SN?Parents often crying out for someone and you'd get direct payment rates of about £8 an hour.

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:19

what is mlm?

OP posts:
jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:20

£8 /hour per child.

asdmumandteacher · 11/11/2008 23:20

Yay! I have just got DP for my son JimJam!! What a coincidence

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:22

scary to lovely sums it up.

The school does love me, possibly because I come from somewhere scary so have a very different way of working, so if a promotion came up I think I would get it.

OP posts:
jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 11/11/2008 23:23

MLM=multi level marketing. Has a bad name in the UK but can be a good 2nd income if you choose carefully. explanation here

DP's can be good- if you can find someone! Lots of people with dp's to spend but no-one to spend them on!!

twinsetandpearls · 11/11/2008 23:23

On average I get home about half five. I do have work to do in the evenings but can fit that around other stuff.
