How many schools did you go to? Not including further education.

I went to 6 before I went to my Secondary school - so that is 7 schools. I also had about 1 year off from school. We emigrated to New Zealand and there was a lot of time playing and sorting new school out, so I have been told by my mother.

3 primaries, 3 secondaries and thena 6th form college.
We moved a lot.

I worry about moving my own children, but looking back it wasn't so bad. I hadn't realised it was so many, I thought it was only 4.

Seven here too schwotz. 5 primaries and 2 secondaries. Some were better than others...

DD went to 4 schools (5 if you count playgroup)& we haven't moved at all, but the infant & junior schools were separate & she went to sixth form college after GCSEs.

I went to one primary up until P6, then an independent school from P7 onwards.

7 primaries, 6 months home ed in the middle of that, 3 secondaries, although one of those was only for 6 months when my dad did a job swap.

It was rubbish btw. ds is going to one of each if I can possibly manage it.

do you mind if I ask -- what's it like from a child's perspective? mine are being moved around like chess pieces because we hate the boarding option

beansmum I can understand that you want a different way for your own dcs. I think once you are in secondary moving is around is so much harder.

namechangefersure I'm not sure what advise i'd give. I don't remember it being bad at all, other than odd things, like how schools had different playgrounds and rules. What you could do in one, would not be allowed in another etc. You learn how to make friends quickly and to be sociable. I think it is important for the school to partner your child up for the first few weeks with someone who is reliable, maybe two children, but not the teachers number one pupil. That is a sure fast way to isolate yourself. You become very wise to the whole relationship structure of your classmates and who fits where, in a very short time. It is a good lesson for life.

thanks schwotz.. sometimes it feels selfish to keep them with us, as not moving is not an option. they seem to manage, and they are at schools which are understanding and handle it well. But you never know the long term effects. That's reassuring.

I only went to 1. I started there when I was 4 and left when I was 18. I was bored stupid by the time I left. I would never recommend it to anyone else.

I would love to take mine out of school for a year and travel. I know it will be one of my biggest regrets when I am older.
