I went to 6 before I went to my Secondary school - so that is 7 schools. I also had about 1 year off from school. We emigrated to New Zealand and there was a lot of time playing and sorting new school out, so I have been told by my mother.

I went to 2 schools, one primary and one secondary, I am really unsure about the whole stability argument, we stayed in the same house, parents stayed together, all the conditions were 'right', I was bored rigid and I think I would have really benefitted from some challenges. Am not advocating moving children around, just saying it is not necessarily a bad thing.

pointydog · 05/10/2008 16:48

Bored rigid where?

At school, at home, with friends, with surroundings?

And wouldn't some of those be issues to be addressed by school and family (not to mention individual character) rather than moving the whole family on?

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing either. Apart from secondary moves.

3 primary
2 secondary

Pointydog, I was at one school from 4 - 18 and would definitely have benefitted from some moves. I was bored of the whole system, knew all the staff, knew all the children, knew which excuses to use to get out of working . I also found it suffocating because all the teachers had known my family for so long that I felt I didn't have a separate identity. My mother was ill for much of my childhood, so I'm sure that the decision was made to keep me at the same school for some stability, but it really didn't help. I felt that everyone knew our family business (probably better than I did).

I wish that I had stood up for myself and moved to a different school for 6th form like my younger sister did. She went to a school in a different town and started all over again. I was so envious!

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 05/10/2008 18:31

One primary and one secondary. Led v dull life as a child.

madmummy4 · 05/10/2008 22:16

I went to two nurseries, two different infant schools, two different junior schools nad one comprehensive/senior school. My parents kept moving to bigger houses and when I was little they were strict in catchment areas in that if you moved out of the catchment area you were expected to move schools also.It never did me any harm whatsoever either.

Hulababy · 05/10/2008 22:17

TheConfusedofthedeadOne · 05/10/2008 22:36

12 but was another RAF Brat.

Anna8888 · 06/10/2008 10:52

Four - two prep schools, two secondary schools.

scaryteacher · 06/10/2008 11:36

I was a Navy brat, so 4 primaries in different locations, 1 comprehensive and 1 sixth form (state, but boarded).

crumpet · 06/10/2008 11:52

2 primaries, 4 secondaries.

And two or three infant schools - can't remember that far back

swedishmum · 06/10/2008 13:46

6 primaries, 2 secondaries. Not usually because of house moves, my parents were just odd. As an only child and a vicar's daughter I found it very hard to make friends - it certainly didn't help always being the new girl! Mind you, by the time I went to university I'd lived in 10 different houses (4 in one village, including one twice).

schwotz · 06/10/2008 15:01

Funny how some of you would want the opposite of what you had. I suppose it is based on your own experiences.

I suppose I have itchy feet.

1 primary
1 secondary
Hmm, slightly boring childhood,... BUT i've made up for it since ;)

Madsometimes · 08/10/2008 10:31

3 primaries
1 secondary (6th form scrapped the year before I was due to enter it)
6th form college

I did not have a positive experience of being moved at primary level, and loved the stability of being in one secondary school. 6th form college was a nightmare, I resented not getting my chance to be one of the older ones at school. My best friend was really pretty, so I was the ugly friend. However, I did enjoy university, that was a fresh start when I was mature enough to enjoy the change.

So for my children it will be
1 primary
1 secondary
and unfortunately 1 6th form. Our first choice secondary does not have a 6th form but is very good in all other areas. I wish it did have a 6th form.
