ok, this MUST have been discussed before, but... can someone please explain how a state-funded school can select according to the god-fearing-ness (or otherwise) of a child's parents???

we all pay the taxes that keep em going

so, why should it matter whether a parent visits a building with a spire once a week, and sings songs therein?

our local primary school asks the question "do you go to church? if not, why do you want your children to attend this school?" (paraphrased)

Well my plan is to make up for any failings of whatever non-bullshit school DS goes to by doing educational stuff with him at home, and also to be an involved, interested, helpful, articulate parent to the school - but one who doesn't bring superstition into it.
Better that than teaching DS that blatant hipocrisy to get what you want is OK.

Very defeatist attitude, anna! Why would I want to do do that?

Swedes · 09/07/2008 19:17

Anna888 - If there is sufficient support for a thing the thing can be changed. It's called democracy.

Anna8888 · 11/07/2008 13:59

Not defeatist (unless you really want a communist educational system). Not undemocratic - the fact that the British allow parallel education systems to exist is the very proof of democracy.

no custy tis cleverer than that (God after all)

God gives good results to faith schools when he really cares about the sinners/non religious people (cf shepherd and one lost sheep)

faith school people achieve and get good jobs becoming richer

rich people are camels having trouble getting to heaven

God doesn't have to hang out with rich dead people discussing house prices through the ages in heaven ('really? well in 1363 i bought a castle for 2d and a silver button)

very very cunning
