I am relieved to see that the Surrey is also looking at options to expand class sizes and use transportation to take children to other areas. They really need to get their act together quickly.

all children has a right to state education.

Surrey runs out of state school places for private pupils as VAT raid bites

Surrey County Council has admitted it does not have enough state school places to accommodate children transferring from private schools, following the government’s introduction of a 20 per cent VAT levy on independent education.

Labour are not really interested in all schools being good. Envy suits them well. It rallies the troops. They don’t care about children. They only care about making sure a few people are thrown to the dogs in the name of equality and raising money. Both are fiction.

Labour always has one policy of kicking the symbolic “rich” to keep the baying dogs quiet and this time it’s at the expense of children. They don’t appear to be getting rid of state grammar schools. These confer more privilege than many private schools.

Their policies are bad like this

Take the growth one and then doing the opposite

TES did a calculation... you need a household income of £100k, on average to send ONE child to PS....

Which tallies with my bro's salary of 250k tax free Saudi to send their two to PS..

I ve been to plenty of school sports days, lets put it this way, there are no Skoda's in the car park.

So not my stereotype figures

How many indy schools have you visited and whereabouts in the country?
I can assure you our car park represents that of Asda ie cars from across the socio-economic spectrum
20% fee assistance is the average across the sector

So 14 years of constant underfunding of state school provision, inc SEND provision but its Labour who put down the messes..

Surestart wasn't designed to up the opportunities of the poor then?

All you lot only moan when cuts affect you, when they are on other sectors, you don't give a fuck....

Also known as being a Tory.

SW.. Millfield, Somerset, Kelly College, Devon and Plymouth College

..and what level is that assistance? very very low.

Bottom line is, for the vast majority, PS is a pipe dream, a luxury v v few can afford, to pretend otherwise is just lying.

Average fees are 18k per child, day, a rise of 7% on 2023... to take home 18k, you'd need to earn about 26k, more if you want a pension.

EasternStandard · 15/12/2024 21:52

Only the most staunch Labour supporters on mn will be ok with the unexpected shrinking of the economy due to bad policy choices

Plus warnings of sharp decrease in vacancies

Easy to spend other people's money? If you are so concerned why don't you offer to pay more tax? HMRC offer a service to collect voluntary contributions each month on top of your income tax.
You realise a household on 100K is actually contributing more in income tax than the majority of people in the country?
Parents who choose indy schools save the taxpayer 7.5K per year per child.

More millionaires use state schools than indy, if this is about the rich paying their way then means test state schools. That way Starmer, Reeves etc would actually have to pay instead of getting a free education for their kids at the taxpayers expense whilst sitting in £2 million houses.

Economy has been at or around 0% growth for years, why do you suddenly expect it to grow now?

SW explains a lot
Come to the NE where only a tiny % earn 100K+ and have a look in our carparks then tell me we are vastly wealthy!
You realise that the majority of the UK doesn't live in the SW therefore you can't even extrapolate that across the whole of the country.

Ha now you re being an idiot, reducing your argument to "why don't you pay more tax..."

Is that it?

Now you castigate Starmer for living in a 2m house? how much is Sunak worth or Johnson?

showing your true colours now....

I don't care about Sunak etc cos I don't vote Tory. You are showing your true colours now

You have a very warped view skewed by living in the vastly wealthy SW. The fact you can't grasp that the majority of the country doesn't have that wealth is mind boggling.

EasternStandard · 15/12/2024 22:02

Growth was stronger in the first half of the year. Better than expected. OECD made statements in the back of it

Labour have returned us to negative growth. I know Labour and Starmer have some strong supporters on these threads who will bat for them no matter what but that decrease impacts everyone.

Next up a sharp decrease in vacancies announced today

We'll see where that goes. I wonder when Reeves and Starmer will understand what's happening

You bought in Starmers wealth, its an irrelevance.

What matters is education for the masses, they will provide the UK with its future trades, HCPs, carers, drivers etc... people who actually drive the economy.

The country is fucked, it has no money, cannot borrow and most don't earn enough to pay more tax.

So those that do, have to pay more.

Blame 14 years of Austerity, Brexit and a failure to invest, when money was cheap.

Parsley1234 · 15/12/2024 22:02

Starmer moved to a £2mill house to be in the catchment of the best state in north London hypocrite much. Reeves and her sister had parents who were teachers they both went to Oxford where obviously due to their chippy attitude resulted in their attitudes now

Parsley1234 · 15/12/2024 22:03

Nope, economy is more or less the same size as it was in July.

Funny how you weren't quite so vocal when Truss was in or we had negative growth last autumn for 2 months in a row.

"So those that do, have to pay more" exactly! Millionaires like Starmer etc should be paying more yet me on 35K is told I am rich enough to shoulder more of the burden because of my school choice?
Labour happy to means test WFA to stop millionaires getting it, they should apply the same to schools. That would be a "fairer" way, using their own language

What happened to aspiration? at least its state, where Starmer juniors will mix with normal people.

No they won't! They will mix with the kids of London metropolitan elite and still get the connections they would have made at Eton etc. They will end up at Oxford like their parents and perpetuate the cycle. Money sticks with money irrespective of the setting.

Parsley1234 · 15/12/2024 22:08

@louddumpernoise why would I be envious my son is through prep and public school. You really think Starmer junior will be moving with normal kids in that catchment I doubt it

Exactly. The kids of Starmer etc aren't having playdates at a council housing estate for crying out loud

EasternStandard · 15/12/2024 22:10

None of the pledges will happen if they keep going as they are, Labour will find it very tough if they keep us in negative growth due to their policies.

And a shrinking Labour market will impact all
