STEINER WALDORF SCHOOLS AND INSTITUTIONS

1000 replies

theantignome · 29/02/2008 09:25

hi everyone, i wanted to start a new thread with a NEW topic heading here, as the active one at the moment with over 700 posts looks like it is all about the Cambridge school. This may confuse newcomers.

Let's continue the debate here !
All newcomers welcome !

I will shortly link our two previous threads on MN for any one new to have a look at.

Davy, could you also give a link to your new yahoo list here please ? Thanks.

preggers - the only people who are nutters are posters like you and aussie, et al, who barge in, write one silly sentence with nothing valuable to say and then you disappear.

you are welcome if you have something important to add to the debate (either pro or con steiner)

if you can't stand the heat of people bollocking steiner-ism, try the I LOVE RUDOLF thread, that might suit you better.

this is a PUBLIC forum, not a private tea party, so take it or leave.

preggerspoppet · 02/03/2008 20:45

I'll leave thanks. enjoy your public tea party

theantignome · 02/03/2008 20:51

"bitter and strange with a very warped agenda" - yes but i console myself with the fact that i have rescued my son from the clutches of dwarves, elves, gnomes with no faces and the most rubbish water colour art the world has ever seen

I regret having posted my previous remarks about Tilda Swinton. They may have come across as censorious and that was not my intention. I thought the juxtaposition of her eccentricity and Waldorf pretensions might lead to some amusing situations. Either way, the decisions she and her husband make in their private life are none of my business and they're irrelevant to the subject under discussion here. As to her choice to send her children to a Waldorf school, many of us here made the same mistake. It took my husband and me more than twelve years to see through the carefully orchestrated facade. Tilda is an extraordinarily talented actress. I thought she was brilliant as the White Witch in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

Are you an Anthroposophist?

Diana (someone who has nothing to do with PLANS) - you said

#By DianaW on Sun 02-Mar-08 14:26:46
..... Sune, I try so hard to help you. "PLANS alleges witchcraft" isn't true, but the problem goes well beyond this in your inability to marshal relevant and credible arguments. (It was parents at a particular school who alleged witchcraft; fundamentalist Christians who were very unhappy to learn that a New Age religion was being taught at the school. Sune bases the claim that "PLANS alleges witchcraft" on the apparent failure of anyone at PLANS to call the newspaper that printed this story and assure the reporter that they themselves did not believe in witches).....

PLANS, based in the Bay Area, claims the Waldorf program is part of a "cult."

District officials said PLANS has used rumors and other tactics in an unsuccessful effort to end Waldorf programs across the state. PLANS officials could not be reached for comment.

The Waldorf program, initiated by a previous school board, has enjoyed some good successes at Oak Ridge, said Jay Schenirer, the board's new president.

"Before we judge the outcome of this, we must make sure that everyone has visited the classrooms and seen what's going on. Then we can talk about it some more," he said.

"But I'm convinced there is a problem if you have some parents who are upset," Schenirer said. "We need to work with them toward a solution." Graphic Text Bee photograph/Erhardt Krause Pickets in front of Sacramento's Oak Ridge Elementary School on Thursday protest an experimental program there that is using the Waldorf teaching method, which was developed in Germany....

Diana, why were PLANS there distibuting leaflets when the allegation was made?
And, why did the sacbee post the above then?
Surely the spokesperson for PLANS would have detached themselves....surely?!

I particulary love this bit...
..PLANS officials could not be reached for comment....WHY COULDN'T YOU LOT SPEAK????
dwb.sacbee.com/content/links/story/12266380p-13130448c.html...

Yet several of you can all be reached on any anti steiner forums...mumsnet, mothering, waldorfcritics, et al? Hmmmm!

Hi Power, I was hoping this one might go away- as I have seen similar "leading questions" then go into open battles, almost as if the question was a trap ie
answer yes- and you get trolled.
answer no- and you get trolled.

Power- I am happy to answer your question honestly, but may I ask/request that in doing so- you dont take it to a war- please accept my answer, without attacking me- can you promise to do that?...

p.s my answer will follow if you can keep to your word.

Powerofjoy2004 · 02/03/2008 23:23

Lush wrote: "I just hope Tilda doesn't ever come across this thread!"

We all make mistakes. I've made plenty of mistakes in my life and my earlier post probably won't be my last mistake in life. I try to do the right thing, however. If Tilda ever sees this thread, I believe she will have the grace to recognize an apology when she sees one, particularly when it comes from someone who admires her work and wishes her only good things in life.

On the other hand, if she did come across this thread, it might offer her the opportunity to become better informed about the weaknesses of Waldorf academics, the anti-modern science bent in the curriculum, and all the other hidden aspects of Waldorf education that are not apparent to the majority of parents.

....

Margaret- I have read and re-read your post and I just see an awful lot of hate coursing through your writing- I see no reason for you to discredit and slander this woman, just because her innocent children attend a Steiner/Waldorf School- I really don't- What has this woman or her family done to you that merits this sort of attack?

Powerofjoy2004 · 02/03/2008 23:50

Lush, after I posted the question "Are you an Anthroposophist" to you many times you finally answered, "I was hoping this one might go away- as I have seen similar 'leading questions' then go into open battles." This makes no sense. How can it be a leading question when I have no influence on whether you answer yes or no. The answer is either yes or no and the decision to answer truthfully is yours.

Your statement about trolling does not make sense either. Perhaps you're not clear on the definitions of "leading question" and "troll."

It's interesting how you label me a "spiteful person" and then announce that you're not willing to reveal here whether or not you're an Anthroposophist unless I promise not to "attack" you.

Margaret

lush007 · 02/03/2008 23:51

preggerspoppet - "How very dare you!" - you are not allowed to write anything positive, whether it be your free thoughts as a passer by or constructive experiences within Steiner education....the 'intellectual' lawyer, sees to that!

lush007 · 02/03/2008 23:53

Power- I am happy to answer your question honestly, but may I ask/request that in doing so- you dont take it to a war- please accept my answer, without attacking me- can you promise to do that?...

Desiderata · 03/03/2008 00:01

Yes! Yes! She promises.

Eva52 · 03/03/2008 00:41

Don't answer Powerofjoy until you know what she actually means with her question, lush007.

I very much doubt she asks you because she interested in who you are, as she does not tell what she actually means with her question, when you ask her about it.

If she actually was interested in understanding you, she would have answered your question. That she does not answer you indicates she is just out for something she can use in polemic against you.

What is an "anthroposophist" or "American" or "teacher" or "mother". We are all primarily humans, and only in a second, third, fourth, fifth sense to different degress and in different senses something else.

The degrees do not interest Powerofjoy2004, judging from her polemical discussion with you on the issue. She just wants to put a stamp on you that she can polemize against.

Desiderata · 03/03/2008 01:08

Ok, so which one of you is the woman with the really big ears that was on the news the other day?

Powerofjoy2004 · 03/03/2008 01:09

Lush wrote: "I just see an awful lot of hate coursing through your writing- I see no reason for you to discredit and slander this woman,"

Lush, I've already explained the reason for my comments and expressed my regret for posting them. My misguided attempt at humor was inappropriate. I sometimes find eccentricity amusing. No hatred involved. My comments do not slander anyone. The people mentioned have been open about their living arrangements. They have been widely publicized in the news media. As for discrediting anyone, it would seem that way only to someone who felt that wrongdoing was involved. I don't hold any such judgment.

As for the children involved, I know that the parents send their children to a Waldorf school because they have their children's best interests at heart as did so many of us when we sent our children to Waldorf.

I've been honest in my admission that I should never have started this particular discussion so for me it ends here. My sincere apologies to anyone I might have offended.

Margaret

Desiderata · 03/03/2008 01:15

Ah! It was Margaret.

Powerofjoy2004 · 03/03/2008 01:29

Lush, this is a forum about a controversial issue. I would be a fool to agree not to respond to your statements in any way that might be perceived by you to be an "attack" when you have demonstrated your propensity for slinging ad hominem remarks my way. I do agree not to send any ad hominems your way. I do not agree not to express opinions and make statements that are in opposition to your claims and beliefs about the issues being discussed here.
