I would like some advice on what I should do. My DD is in Y5, they have finished their end of year tests for Maths and English. The teacher had lost a few of the children's test answer papers, so he has given one of the children the opportunity to do the test again. However, my DD has observed the teacher providing the child who had to do the test again with the answers. Now unsurprisingly, this child has scored 140 out of 140, this child also happens to be the 'teacher's pet'. Where do I go with this information?

So what are the end of year tests?

There aren't any. Schools can buy them, at a huge cost, and Academy Trusts like them because they can compare 'performance' across the Trust. We HAVE to buy NFER which costs thousands of pounds that we can't afford. NFER must be raking it in because it is the same damn test every year.

Wheresthebeach · 01/07/2023 13:57

Well that child will be under some insane pressure next year - I don’t fancy the year six teacher will be delighted with targets based on cheating. Frankly I don’t believe it happened as it’s setting everyone up for failure.

@ApocalypseNowt how about MI5 and the FBI too? These terrible teachers😂

I was thinking interpol and the CIA

willWillSmithsmith · 01/07/2023 14:02

As it’s only primary school I wouldn’t get too invested in it. Those results are not going to make any difference to senior school exam results or your child’s future.

dapsnotplimsolls · 01/07/2023 12:49

And the press.

Raise it with King Charles….

shams05 · 01/07/2023 14:03

So your DD has spoken to other kids from different schools in your town and they've agreed they had exactly the same paper? Or more likely she's told them the kind of questions she had and they all agreed theirs were the same or similar, which is to be expected.
Even if the cheating has happened as your DD claims, it's none of your business, when they do assessments in the new year the teachers will see IF there's a massive difference in the child's abilities and take it from there.

And the press.

And a trip to A&E for the whole class so they can access CAHMS.

Oh, For Goofness Sake....

LMNT · 01/07/2023 14:08

Year 5 is meaningless age wise to us non Brits.

Wheresthebeach · 01/07/2023 14:08

The Fail will be delighted with this thread

I know the score of the other child, as the teacher had announced it to the class and made a point that the child achieved the top grade.
Whilst this is only Y5, but this is the standard end of year test that children in all schools complete.

No it isn’t, if you’re in England. Schools do a wide variety of assessments, some don’t do any formal tests, just teacher assessments.
You're too invested and need to let it go!

LacieLane · 01/07/2023 14:13

No standard testing at the end of year 5.

National, standardised tests are administered by this government agency.

As you can see, primary school standard tests end of KS1 (Y2) & end of KS2 (Y6).
If you mean Y6 you can report for maladministration, but your information about the scores, doesn’t sound correct.

Standards and Testing Agency

We develop and deliver assessments for children in education between reception and the end of key stage 2. STA is an executive agency, sponsored by the Department for Education .

TM80 · 01/07/2023 12:49

So what are the end of year tests?

I saw your comment on another thread about the Wandsworth Y6 tests, so maybe it's just something that happens across your borough?

Either way, unless you have incontrovertible proof that the teacher gave that child the results, you can't report him for cheating. The say-so of your DC isn't going to be enough - it will just sound like sour grapes from them and you.

Soontobe60 · 01/07/2023 14:15

TM80 · 01/07/2023 12:41

Well, she has asked a few other children from other schools and they have all had the same comprehension test, etc

If I did a quick quiz of my Y5 class and asked them what assessments they completed 2 weeks ago, I can guarantee that 99% of them wouldn’t have a clue what the name of the assessments were.

MrsKeats · 01/07/2023 14:17

Please.
All hearsay.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 01/07/2023 14:20

They will be the NFER tests. Done about once a term. Although the test is out of 140, 140 is not the top mark - you can actually get 141 out of 140. (Tests are standardised.)

Quite a lot of kids get 141.

Offyoupoplove · 01/07/2023 14:21

Haven’t RTFT but Year 5 tests aren’t statutory so there is no fraud. It’s also perfectly acceptable to work through tests together to learn from them.

This feels like a ‘mountain out of a molehill’ moment.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/07/2023 14:23

ireallycantthinkofaname · 01/07/2023 13:59

Be reasonable, now. It's clear that the OP's child will be wholly disadvantaged and never move above a HEO level with the shame of an average end of year 5 nonexistent national teat, whereas the blatant cheat is now going to become M with their perfect 140. So the OP must ensure that all organisations concerned with Our Security are informed to prevent this unfair advantage throughout their life...

Silverbook · 01/07/2023 14:29

Where do you go with this information?

Far.

Far, far away. Then stay there.

declutteringmymind · 01/07/2023 14:30

I'd have a word with the headteacher.

Maybe say your child has come home saying this and you're sure it's a misunderstanding but you would like her to know in case it is true and if it isn't to clarify the issue with the children as they don't want false rumours spreading.

tenterden · 01/07/2023 14:31

ChangeIsInevitable · 01/07/2023 13:35

Or they’re a grass.

Nobody likes a grass.

Nah, people should be encouraged to 'grass' more. It doesn't mean they should be believed hook, line and sinker without proper investigation but all these 'snitches get stitches' bs is why bullies and criminals get away with so much and why our politicians all stick up for each other (unless there's something to gain by not doing so) while they're robbing the country.

If you see someone doing wrong, say so - this can't be said enough.

I think you’ve rather missed the spirit of the thread.

Along with those bleating about “safeguarding”

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/07/2023 14:31

theoddoneasalways · 01/07/2023 12:16

It's yr5, does it really matter?

This. Who cares? It's not important.

ApocalypseNowt · 01/07/2023 12:18

Social services, police and the government. Just to be on the safe side.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

TM80 · 01/07/2023 12:41

Well, she has asked a few other children from other schools and they have all had the same comprehension test, etc

You have no idea what actually happened and sounds like your DD needs to mind her own business.

Hobbi · 01/07/2023 14:44

@TM80

I believe the United Nations will send troops to monitor possible incidents of serious corruption like the one you so have so bravely exposed.
