How much would you pay?- PTA wreath making

I'm just wanting to gauge what would be a reasonable amount to charge per head for a Christmas wreath making evening? It's a fundraiser for our primary school PTA. I don't make any profit and would provide all the supplies necessary- all profits go to the PTA. The participants just turn up (mulled wine, fizz and mince pies are available for a donation).

I have attached a photo of the wreath I made last year to give you an idea of what people will come away with (excuse my child's blocked out face!).

My question is what would you be willing to pay for an event like this at school? Has anyone's school held an evening like this before and what was the charge per head? Thanks.

How much would something like that cost from a market stall in your area?

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 15:20

I'm not sure to be honest!!

How much will your supplies cost?

I think you need to be aiming for 15-20 quid for the PTA per head after your expenses otherwise it's not really worth your time.

I'm a crafter - people underestimate horribly how much materials cost. Let alone how long it takes to do things. Someone offered me £80 for a baby quilt recently. The fabric alone cost more than £80 let alone the time, electricity, thread, wear & tear on my machine that goes into creating such an item.

I've only seen much smaller ones with perhaps holly, conifer and bay on.

You'd pay 40-50 for that in my local florist.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 15:24

Omg AdelaideRo, as a fellow quilt maker I feel your pain!! For x30 people I think I'll be talking at least £50-£70 in supplies. I'm happy for that to be my PTA contribution so it doesn't come out of their profits. The price per head should then be pure profit.

£15-20

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 15:26

I should have made clear that the £50-£70 will be the supplies for everyone- ring forms, wire, twine, fruit, decorations etc.

£20 I think for PTA. Maybe you could do a smaller one for £12. That way you’ve got options for people?

WreckTangled · 24/09/2022 15:28

We do wreaths at our school with the PTA and it’s £25. They’re nowhere near as fancy as yours though, it’s lovely.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 15:28

Thanks SNWannabe. This is very helpful- I don't want to be seen to be overcharging but if I'm doing this it needs to be a good money maker for the PTA (as well as a hopefully fun night!)

I've been to a PTA wreath making evening for the last couple of years and paid £30. A large wreath cost at least £20 from the market here, so £30 doesn't seem ridiculous when you get to make something that's totally to your taste. It's run by a local florist who provide the basic wreaths, an abundance of different decorations and are there to help/advise. This year they're running three evenings as it's such a popular event.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 15:29

We're up north if it makes a difference. In a reasonably affluent area.

Lovemylittlebear · 24/09/2022 15:29

£40

Chewbecca · 24/09/2022 15:30

How many wreathes can be made out of the £70 of supplies?

I would expect maybe £15ph but definitely depends on the cost ph of the supplies.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 15:31

Hopefully all of them Chewbecca. I source all the foliage locally.

I'll ask parents for donations of mince pies / mulled wine. There's usually always people happy to donate a bit.

This is positive as I was going to ask for £10-£12 and the minimum suggested seems to be £15 which is good. It gives me confidence that that is not a ridiculous amount.

All the wreath making workshops around here (North Bucks) are about £40. Which I think it too much. If school offered one for £20 I would jump at it.....even if the wreath was a little smaller than some. - because I would gain the skills to make a bigger one next year.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 24/09/2022 15:35

The dc school makes wreaths to sell at Xmas. They charge £12 for a small one or £20 for a bigger (normal wreath sized) one

Mumdiva99 · 24/09/2022 15:35

Oh, and I would pay for over priced wine while there to add to the money they make.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 15:36

Thank you! I agree that £15-£20 sounds reasonable. I want as many people to access as possible whilst making a decent amount for the PTA. I'm not a florist (just a happy amateur) so I'm glad that sounds fair.

I think even £20 is cheap compared to the ones I've seen advertised near me in previous years. That's a really good sized wreath, very nice

Bzzz · 24/09/2022 15:40

Places near me (although not for pta) are normally the £45 region (with tea/coffee). Also Northern based

massistar · 24/09/2022 15:40

We paid £25 to make these at our PTA event. Was a lot of fun !
