How much would you pay?- PTA wreath making

I'm just wanting to gauge what would be a reasonable amount to charge per head for a Christmas wreath making evening? It's a fundraiser for our primary school PTA. I don't make any profit and would provide all the supplies necessary- all profits go to the PTA. The participants just turn up (mulled wine, fizz and mince pies are available for a donation).

I have attached a photo of the wreath I made last year to give you an idea of what people will come away with (excuse my child's blocked out face!).

My question is what would you be willing to pay for an event like this at school? Has anyone's school held an evening like this before and what was the charge per head? Thanks.

It would be £40+ to go to a normal workshop for this. I think if they get mulled wine and mince pies you should go for £25

MenaiMna · 24/09/2022 15:46

Local garden centre charges £55 for wreath making class incl materials, one drink, one mince pie.

gogohmm · 24/09/2022 15:48

£20 includes a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine/non alcoholic alternatives (additional drinks by donation though strictly speaking you need an alcohol license which is £21)

NoSquirrels · 24/09/2022 15:49

I’m trying to remember but I think it was definitely not less than £25, more likely £30, and included a glass of fizz and nibbles.

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling a lot more confident.

Its lovely. I'd happily pay £25 if it was for such a good cause and so much effort for you. Include a photo when you advertise

Newgirls · 24/09/2022 16:05

£25 to include first mulled wine?

bargain! It looks gorgeous.

twocatsandtwokids · 24/09/2022 16:09

I’ve done this at our school PTA event - lovely evening! - and I think it cost £40. Free mulled wine and mince pies! Very chilled and therapeutic activity! And of course a lovely wreath made with your choice of colours etc which lasted weeks!
So I think a fair price but we are South East.

Pinkallium · 24/09/2022 16:09

Cost £50 here (Oxford) but includes wine and you end up with a very nice wreath. Don’t under value yourself, your wreath is beautiful. Good luck with it.

I think you'd need to know your market.

If you offered that at some of the school's I've worked at, people would laugh, or look Confused
Much as I love MN, it doesn't really reflect society as a whole.

I do agree people often underestimate the cost of making something like that, but equally, there are so many families that won't have the budget for niceties like a wreath on their front door. Of course, if your 'market; do, then it does sound like a lovely, sociable evening. IMO, you have to love anything that includes mulled wine. Blush

ARoyalSubject · 24/09/2022 16:18

I would happily pay £25 for the evening (+ snacks) if I thought I would come home with something as lovely as that.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 16:20

Thanks for all your comments and price suggestions- definitely food for thought.

£28.00 PP at our local country park . Must be good value as sold out already!

RewildingAmbridge · 24/09/2022 16:22

I did a similar workshop a couple of years ago, in London though. It was £50 per head and our wreaths were nowhere near as luxurious as yours.
I think easily £30 pp

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 16:22

Kite22 I grew up in an area exactly like you describe, hence my reluctance. I definitely think it's a case of knowing the market. Round here is much more well to do, but definitely not not on SE levels. I do think there will be a market for it though and we can open it up to the wider community as it's adults only.

South Coast /New Forest area

RuthW · 24/09/2022 16:23

All wreath making workshops I've seen are at least £25

Purpletoes · 24/09/2022 16:27

Our school has done this for. Few years it's always a great evening. It's usually £15-20 a head. Grown ups only. The weekend before we arrange a foliage pine cone collecting walk and ask for donations from garden cut offs etc. The local shops donate oranges for us to dehydrate ourselves etc.

We also have bought some little battery charged lights from poundland to sell on the evening if anyone wants lights on theirs (extra charge)

It is a very popular evening. Good luck.

LoveBluey · 24/09/2022 16:28

Local florist runs one here which I think was £40 or £45 so for a PTA event id happily pay £25. Include a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie and it's a bargain!

QueenOfWeeds · 24/09/2022 16:28

Can I hijack slightly and ask where you got your moss from? The garden centre I used to get mine from closed down, and so last year I ended up with a kit from the florist and it wasn’t as fun as starting from scratch!

Mouseaboutthehouse · 24/09/2022 16:28

I was going to say £50. I did a DIY kit a few years ago and that was over £70 but it had fancy stuff in, if that makes sense.

£15 is a bargain, can you even buy a real wreath for that much?

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 16:32

Queenofweeds I got my moss from EBay 😆 I think I'll look more carefully when sourcing for a larger group.

My local class is £36 and they provide all supplies plus mulled wine.

HeadAboveTheParapet · 24/09/2022 16:37

Seen one as a fundraiser for £45 per person. Selling at home sets for £24

bigbluebus · 24/09/2022 16:38

Local home based florist near me has just advertised a wreath making workshop in the village hall for £40pp including materials and a glass of fizz. I'm in a not particularly affluent part of the W Midlands.
