How much would you pay?- PTA wreath making

I'm just wanting to gauge what would be a reasonable amount to charge per head for a Christmas wreath making evening? It's a fundraiser for our primary school PTA. I don't make any profit and would provide all the supplies necessary- all profits go to the PTA. The participants just turn up (mulled wine, fizz and mince pies are available for a donation).

I have attached a photo of the wreath I made last year to give you an idea of what people will come away with (excuse my child's blocked out face!).

My question is what would you be willing to pay for an event like this at school? Has anyone's school held an evening like this before and what was the charge per head? Thanks.

If I’m completely honest the max I would want to pay would be £15. I appreciate that wouldn’t cover materials

PollyEsther · 24/09/2022 16:48

Hello! I went to a wreath making session for our school's PTA last year. It was awesome! We absolutely loved it, and the wreaths we ended up with were beautiful (as is yours, OP). We paid £15 each and all came away saying we'd have happily paid more. Our drinks were charged on top, but nominally, so a cup of tea was 50p odd, or £1 with a mince pie. £1 or £2 for mulled wine (I didn't drink as driving so not sure, but I know it was lidl's bottled stuff in slow cookers because I lent my SC Grin ). Friends and I who went last year are looking forward to doing again this year too!

Just looked at the local options for wreath workshops near me and they range from a bargain £20 where you forage for your own materials to a whopping £71 . I would definitely think £20 was a brilliant price to have everything I needed ready for me .

LionessesRules · 24/09/2022 16:53

Northern.
£20 is a bargain. The PTA here does them for £35, including a drink. Yours is stunning.

clareykb · 24/09/2022 16:57

I go to a similar thing at a local church, niace suburb of Northern City and pay £25

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 24/09/2022 16:59

Oh my goodness. I live in London and I paid £40 for the school wreath making workshop last year. But the ones run by the florists are £60+.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 17:04

My best friend lives in London and she is often shocked (in a good way) by the prices up here!

Our local hospice run a wreath making workshop every year. It’s £20 a head with 40 spaces and led by a woman from the local flower club. A ring, twine/wire and foliage are included plus dried fruit/pine cones etc. Bring your own ornaments/lights if desired.

On the night you can buy Prosecco, mulled wine or lemonade by the glass and there are free mince pies/baking donations.

The lady who runs the class has a sample ready made that she raffles off for £1 a ticket and she makes one for herself alongside everyone else. Last year the raffle alone raised over £100 and in total the night raised over £900!

SirChenjins · 24/09/2022 17:35

If I knew I was going to come away with one like that then I’d pay £20 with more on the night for mulled wine etc.

I think it would be a good idea to allocate the materials to people for them to assemble as there also seems to be some parents who will take loads of the materials for their creations, leaving v little for others.

cultkid · 24/09/2022 17:39

£18 if it's pts xx

cultkid · 24/09/2022 17:39

£30 at a shop

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 15:24

Omg AdelaideRo, as a fellow quilt maker I feel your pain!! For x30 people I think I'll be talking at least £50-£70 in supplies. I'm happy for that to be my PTA contribution so it doesn't come out of their profits. The price per head should then be pure profit.

If I were a parent paying say £30 for a wreath workshop, I’d assume all profit was going to the school.
30 people x £30 per head = £900, less your costs of £70 means you’re making £830 profit!
£5 a head would give you a profit of £80.

I’d pay the higher price if you were to pay yourself costs + £50 and give all the remaining profits to the school.

Walrus6 · 24/09/2022 17:58

@Soontobe60 I think the OP is saying she will cover the cost of materials and give up her time for free which is very generous. That way everything the PTA takes is pure profit.

here commercial workshops are £40+. I suggest you charge £25 if it’s the first time it’s been done. Maybe up it to £30 next year if it’s popular.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 18:03

I am making no profit whatsoever- in fact it's a considerable loss as I'm paying for everyone's materials and all money for tickets is going to the PTA.

You could potentially sell kits to make more items at home using the same skills, e.g. table centrepieces. Also running a raffle may bring in some extra funds.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/09/2022 18:11

Do you get the greenery from your garden?

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 18:13

Most of the greenery comes from my garden. We're very rural (national park) so I know several farmers who also allow me to collect on their land (many are parents). Luckily there's no shortage of greenery round here.

Ours last year was £25 with fizz and mince pies. Live in an average area in the Midlands. Tickets sold out really quickly.

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 18:15

I definitely like the raffle idea!

Here in the SE I struggled to find anywhere offering a wreathmaking workshop for under about £60, I think I started a thread on it at the time I was so shocked!
we didn’t end up going in the end, we usually buy one from the Christmas tree farm for about £30 quid, but I had thought it would be a nice evening to treat my friend to. They all threw in a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie (both of which I despise) which was a nice festive touch.
I’d be delighted if I could go somewhere and make one for £30.

in the village where i live (up north) wreath making costs £60 😦

Comedycook · 24/09/2022 18:21

£15. I know the supplies will probably be costly and it will be a fairly expensive event however I would only pay £15 as I wouldn't ordinarily bother with a Christmas wreath

in which case, £10?

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 24/09/2022 18:23

Mixed demographic area of central Scotland but with an affluent parent group - would happily pay £25-30 including a drink here and think I was getting a reasonable deal. I also think you would be entirely within your rights to cover your costs out of the proceeds…

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 18:26

MrsSkylerWhite, have you seen anywhere advertising at £10 a head?- I'd love to see a link to that.
