How much would you pay?- PTA wreath making

I'm just wanting to gauge what would be a reasonable amount to charge per head for a Christmas wreath making evening? It's a fundraiser for our primary school PTA. I don't make any profit and would provide all the supplies necessary- all profits go to the PTA. The participants just turn up (mulled wine, fizz and mince pies are available for a donation).

I have attached a photo of the wreath I made last year to give you an idea of what people will come away with (excuse my child's blocked out face!).

My question is what would you be willing to pay for an event like this at school? Has anyone's school held an evening like this before and what was the charge per head? Thanks.

Local florist was £60 last year. North west

Mixed demographic area of central Scotland but with an affluent parent group - would happily pay £25-30 including a drink here and think I was getting a reasonable deal. I also think you would be entirely within your rights to cover your costs out of the proceeds…

I did think about it but felt this could be put families contribution to the PTA this year. We are a really busy working two parent family and don't always have time to put in to school events, but thought this would be a good way of giving back.

MrsSkylerWhite, have you seen anywhere advertising at £10 a head?- I'd love to see a link to that.“

businesses? No.
this is a school charity event though, isn’t it?
I make our wreaths from the garden every year, costs about £3.00 with oasis and wire.

Chicheguevara · 24/09/2022 18:32

I paid £20 for a wreath making day, last year. It included a light lunch and a few cups of tea.

CornishTiger · 24/09/2022 18:32

Easily between £15 and £25.

@Appletreelady ask your local shops Tesco champion/Asda champion for donations of mince pies/mulled wine/tea/coffee. We always source these type of things from them.

Do you have a picture?- I'd love to see one for inspiration. You must be much better at sourcing materials cheaply than me as I couldn't produce a wreath of the standard pictured in my OP for £3. The frame and wire pp would cost more than alone. Well done to you though!

Good idea- I'll definitely look into that!

Prices around here for wreath making are £35 in a village hall. £25 about an 40 min drive in another village hall. £45 at a florists barn. £60 at some hotels with Sunday lunch included.

I did a wreath making workshop last year and I wish I was good enough to run a workshop.

10in10 · 24/09/2022 18:41

Oh wow!! I love this and wish my PTA did a similar event!!! Personally I would pay £25 but suspect people would be happier paying something like £15.

Starseeking · 24/09/2022 18:41

Mine charged £30 last year, London suburbs. The event was sold out!

ShirtingForkBalls · 24/09/2022 18:47

You can pay 35-85 round here (London) in a florist.

So I'd say £20 is fine up north / not with a florist.

Eek3under3 · 24/09/2022 18:50

I would suggest £25 is a really good price. We are in the SE and the non-PTA wreath making events are usually £50+.

Herja · 24/09/2022 18:55

I'd pay £15, £20 absolute max. Because, quite simply, PTA events are singularly awful (and I'm on the PTA...). They are not comparable to a standard paid event. There will always be something that goes wrong; always at least one person there you actively dislike; everyone is really there to raise cash, not as a genuinely fun night out.

For this reason, I'd price at whatever will raise the most over all (and drinks sell well, so will add a decent chunk) and ignore the price of comercial wreath making classes. I'd go with £15.

(I feel I should point out that our school in a deprived area, and the pta can't charge more than a fiver per head for anything if we want anyone but us to turn up.)

😂 re: PTA events... it can definitely be a bit like that!

£30.
all classes around here to make one are £40-£50.
why should you have to find the entire £70 of everyone else isn’t paying that much? It’s completely acceptable for it to come out of the profits!

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 19:18

Thanks for all the replies. It's definitely good for thought.

Local charity are doing them for £40, florists for £50.
Im in the northwest.
maybe throw in a mulled wine and mince pie to charge more

Soontobe60 · 24/09/2022 19:21

Appletreelady · 24/09/2022 18:03

I am making no profit whatsoever- in fact it's a considerable loss as I'm paying for everyone's materials and all money for tickets is going to the PTA.

Ah sorry! In that case £20 pp

NoNameIdeas · 24/09/2022 19:22

I do one every year which is £40. It is run by a local florist rather than as a pta event. Cost includes refreshments and all materials, no two look the same and there are plenty of choices for foliage and decorations. If everyone is making the same one (give or take) I wouldn't pay that much, a max of £20.

There's probably about x15 foliage types, x3 fruits, lots of different feathers, baubles, bells, x4 ribbons, x4 twines, cinnamon sticks etc. it's amazing how different they do look.

I think £25, plus refreshments. It's a beautiful wreath Smile

roaringmouse · 24/09/2022 19:55

What's the maximum number of people you could accommodate, minus the cost of your supplies (excluding your 'gifted' time)?

Then work it from there. If you can generate a decent amount from charging £20 pp, then that seems like a good number judging from your responses on here. You can then add back in the cost of your supplies if you want to, but really, for fundraising purposes, you should exclude them from the maths initially.

Sounds like a lovely idea!

Moon22 · 24/09/2022 20:49

I paid £55 to make one in a florists.. so I think £40 would be reasonable. As it's Christmas time an everyone will be broke/moaning about the cost, maybe £30? Or could you do "suggested donation," of £20 or whatever will be your bare minimum to cover costs and hope that those who can, realise the cost and maybe give a bit more?
Alternatively, could you do a miniature one to hang on the Christmas tree for a tenner or something so everyone can join in, if the big wreath is too much for them?

Digimoor · 24/09/2022 21:02

London - pre covid - nursery fundraiser £60 a head - not sure that any wine or nibbles were included
