What do you wear to a school open day?

We are off to an open day for an independent school at the weekend and I have no idea if you need to be dressed in casual or smart clothes for these things . It only really occurred to me last night when DH asked if he needed to wear a shirt and tie, adding that he hoped not!! A recent episode of Eastenders springs to mind when Ian made a total prat of himself and I am keen to avoid standing out for being different/stupid!! My feeling was smart casual probably, but if anyone else knows different I'd appreciate some input.
Thanks

It was a great visit thanks and a huge variety of clothes there too. I had a chuckle when I saw a family all in matching crocs walking round - only because I hate the things myself!! No cravats in sight, no leopard print leotards or nipple tassles either. Some scruffy jeans and others more smart but no-one seemed to care what anyone was wearing at all. Had a good chat with the head of the junior school too who was very pleasant. DD's both seemed quite excited with all there was to see there. Now to see if we can get them a place there (inserts fingers crossed icon) and the rather large matter of sorting out fees. Hoorah for grandparents!!

but what did you wear???????

Cream coloured "smart" jeans (BHS), pinkish striped top (also BHS) and beige ankle boots. DH wore shirt but no tie and smart casual trousers, DD#1 wore an Asda skirt and purple tescos top and DD#2 wore tesco pink top and purple trousers.
I love tesco clothes!!

Sounds pitch perfect! Hope you found out what you wanted about the school.
