you're just showing off.

IIRC, isn't stage 8 the top level. beyond thatthey choose whatever books they want.....

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/10/2007 20:18

I will keep bumping this until I get some help, so capitulate now it will be easier all round.

pah, ignore me then.

show off.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/10/2007 20:20

He is 6 and he is in YR2.

I want to stretch him but not push him at home so can anyone give me any ideas.

LTH

I am not honest. Little fecker can not grasp number bonds...

DS has brought home stage 9 & 10 books - I think the Biff & Chip books, move on to other titles, fact books etc

Whizzz · 02/10/2007 20:22

I borrowed these Sprinters for DS, he loved them

nell12 · 02/10/2007 20:23

Stage 8 is slightly above expectations for his stage at Yr 2.

Children in his class will be as low as stage 3 (Special needs) the majority will probably be on stages 6 and 7 and there will be some already at stage 10.

HTH

LadyTophamHatt · 02/10/2007 20:23

when ds1 was on level 8, (in yr2 too so ner ner nerner ner) they told him to forget those book and go to the library and choose his own.

He is currently in bed reading and enclyclopedia

Hmmmmm, shall I mention here how good ds2 is at number bonds???

KristinaM · 02/10/2007 20:24

I have a post grad degree and i dont even knwo what number bonds are...........

LadyTophamHatt · 02/10/2007 20:25

IIRC, ds1 didn't have ORT books, it was the otehr one....Uuugh what as it called???

anyway, at stage 8 he stopped withtaht one and, blah blah blah you know the rest.

Whizzz · 02/10/2007 20:25

LOL (pairs of numbers that add up - eg number bonds of 10 are 1&9, 2&8, 3&7 etc)

Twigaletto · 02/10/2007 20:25

if its ORT stage 8 is not the top level

nell12 · 02/10/2007 20:26

Get him reading non fiction books as well, this will extend his vocab and boys prefer non fiction generally!

ask him lots of questions about what he has read... not just what he can remember about the story, but why he thinks things have happened in a certain way, what he think may happen next etc

Twigaletto · 02/10/2007 20:26

ds is on blue bananas now ..

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/10/2007 20:26

Mention the bonds LTH and you are toast.

Nell thank you for that.

Whizz

What a clever man Father Christmas is, they are on his list.

Thanks all

I love MN.

BTW Bree, ds2 learnt number bonds by saying they are best friends. Ie 7 and 3 and freinds, 1 and 9, 8 and 2 etc etec . all best friends.

that worked a treat with him. He does it up to 20 now

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/10/2007 20:27

LGJ

Rises from the dust and spits out gravel and says .............Much higher than stage 8 ORT. Ner Ner Ner.

OP posts:
Twigaletto · 02/10/2007 20:28

captain underpants and sprinters

both from the book people

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/10/2007 20:29

Good idea LTH will try that.

Thank you.

Off to have some supper, will be back.

Twigaletto · 02/10/2007 20:30

lots of history books on book people at the moment .. I find small boys have a strong affinity to history for some reason .. particularly the ones with the gory bits left in

I know what number bonds are, its partitioning that freaks me out

TheOriginalXENA · 02/10/2007 20:32

I was going to suggest captain underpants. DS1 also really got into the Beano at this age, that alone encouraged his reading 10 fold!!

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/10/2007 20:32

LGJ faints clean away.....recovers sufficiently to ask what is partioning ??

Then passes out again.....

Whizzz · 02/10/2007 20:34

Bree - Astrosaurs books have also gone down well with DS

DS also loves these

TheOriginalXENA · 02/10/2007 20:34

Agree twiglett, I've just ordered the horrible histories box set from the book people.

Twigaletto · 02/10/2007 20:35

its got something to do with adding up, but the wrong way
