I’ve had so much fun lurking on the entrance test threads in the last years - now it’s my son’s turn .
Still 10 days to go but I’m starting the thread .
Sitting a couple of other schools as well so maybe we could start a general ‘ Surrey entrance exams ‘ thread ( fun ;-)! )
DS ‘s first exam is in two days time .
He’s preparing himself by playing computer games . I let it go as I don’t believe in prepping children too much for these exams - . I just want him to be relaxed .

Not sure if anyone have got any letters.. Have RGS actually posted anything yet? If anyone received a NO letter, kindly update here..

Dimpy · 30/01/2018 13:02

Hello Everyone...just spoke to RGS admissions and the rejection letters are being sent out today. Good luck!

Rianna · 30/01/2018 13:04

Thank you for asking . Fingers crossed for everyone .

Does this mean they are posting them today or they were posted yesterday arriving today? Sorry, don't know if that was clear when you spoke to them?

Dimpy · 30/01/2018 13:57

Hi migs23..they are being sent out today..

Ragstorags · 30/01/2018 14:59

Does anyone know the general success rate of the call backs. I got the impression that the rate was quite high at around 3 out of 4 of call backs got an offer. The process DS1 went through last week seemed to be more of a 'spot check' rather than a robust assessment?

Lubyl00 · 30/01/2018 15:04

Hello everyone, big well done to those already in and really good luck to everyone still waiting. This will be me next year and I feel nervous already.. Just learning how it all works, or trying to. Can any of your boys remember any interview questions while it's fresh in their minds? Have no idea what to expect. Any other tips for someone a year behind you?

sazzy5 · 30/01/2018 15:18

Hi from what I can tell with the call backs they call back the bottom 40 of the 100 along with the next 40. (This also depends on the number of classes they put on sometimes they do a bulge year sometimes they don't) I know a lot that got called back over the last 3 years and the rate of success seems to be about 50%. So pretty good odds I would say. Some DC got called back for 2 subjects and got in and some with only one didn't so you just can't tell.

Good luck to all those hoping the postman walks past tomorrow.

Zam786 · 30/01/2018 15:27

Thanks Sazzy5. I am sure it’s a nervous time for us all. I have been on edge for the last couple of weeks. This is worse than suffering my heart attack last year. With everything in perspective whatever happens it’s not the end of the world! Will be glad when it’s all over. Good luck everyone for tomorrow. Keeping everything crossed that all the boys get through.

SheilaFentiman · 30/01/2018 16:15

ragstorags, I think that the only 'no' letters coming tomorrow will be for those that weren't interviewed so I don't think you will get anything tomorrow either way,

SheilaFentiman · 30/01/2018 17:11

Good luck for scholarships tomorrow, those who are going!

SheilaFentiman · 31/01/2018 12:14

Post has been and no letter received as yet. Still can't relax, though!

Migs23 · 31/01/2018 12:31

Think you can breathe a bit easier SheilaFentiman - I don't think they're doing special deliveries:) Still no postman here yet....

Rianna · 31/01/2018 12:33

If the letters are out you could call the Office ?
Good luck for the scholarship boys . An amazing achievement being called for that !
Ik now what you mean Zam . My elders now wants to try for Oxford and for us mums that means somehow giving the message its not the end of the world BUT you nees to give it all you e got . He’s old enough , it’s his decision . With My little one who sat rgs just now am constantly worrying weather he will end up at the psychiatrist and blame these exams , or that i should have prepared him better ! I suddenly really want him to go to RGS . The thing is , having been called back has given him confidence and he’s suddenly doing a lot better !

We have sad news! Unfortunately we received a No letter from RGS this morning. Not what we were expecting at all. It’s going to be very hard to tell our son this evening the bad news as he had his heart set on going to RGS. Good luck to those that escaped the post today. We still waiting for Reeds and Reading Blue Coats and I am not hopeful at all at the moment. It’s just tough competition.

Migs23 · 31/01/2018 12:51

Also sad news on this end Zam - a no letter just arrived in the post. Good luck to all the others!

Rianna · 31/01/2018 12:53

zam so sorry to hear that ! What a bummer . Ridiculous competition , people coming all the way from London this year ... will you let us know about the other schools ? Big hug

OP posts:
SheilaFentiman · 31/01/2018 12:56

Sorry to hear that, Zam and Migs x

Zam786 · 31/01/2018 12:57

Just soo upset for him. He worked so hard. This going to be so hard. Keeping everything crossed for Reeds and Reading Blue Coats. Will keep you posted Rianna. Sorry Migs that you got a no. Xx

Rianna · 31/01/2018 13:01

Btw Reeds is a great school ...it’s too much sport I personally worry about

OP posts:
Zam786 · 31/01/2018 13:36

I have emailed Mrs Sweet and asked for feedback from RGS. So at least we can see what happened. It was out first choice. We also got a rejection a few weeks back from Hamptons. The exam was ridicolous hard with GCSE level content! Reeds is lovely. The grounds and sports facilities are amazing...

anonymoosy · 31/01/2018 13:46

Nothing here. But is it correct that the 'no' letters come out in two batches? I have no idea why that would be......is it a purposeful form of torture? Confused

SheilaFentiman · 31/01/2018 13:49

If your son was interviewed then you won't hear either way until the offer letters get posted on 8th Feb, anony.

anonymoosy · 31/01/2018 13:55

Thanks ShielaF. He wasn't interviewed. While I've tried to be cool so far, the anxiety of not knowing is starting to kick in! Just want to know either way. Shame they can't just do it by email first! x

Shezmum · 31/01/2018 16:28

No letters for us today, still not right side of the coin yet. I'm sorry Zam & Migs, I hope both are ok, such a ruthless process. Good Luck.

Hope God will give me the courage to open the "No letter" if its to be!
