I’ve had so much fun lurking on the entrance test threads in the last years - now it’s my son’s turn .
Still 10 days to go but I’m starting the thread .
Sitting a couple of other schools as well so maybe we could start a general ‘ Surrey entrance exams ‘ thread ( fun ;-)! )
DS ‘s first exam is in two days time .
He’s preparing himself by playing computer games . I let it go as I don’t believe in prepping children too much for these exams - . I just want him to be relaxed .

Post been and gone, nothing. Rianna that is great news, maybe it is on the maths but his English/VR were good. DS did say it was tricky and he is quite honest thankfully based on how he feels doing the papers .

Frazzledmumofboys · 19/01/2018 13:16

No post here yet.... Well done on the invitation letter!

Dozer · 19/01/2018 13:24

Isn’t claremont reputedly quite weird/hardcore religious?

Evalina · 19/01/2018 13:28

Based on previous years' threads it looks like interview/scholarship letters will be out today/tomorrow, with the "No" letters coming out next from about next Friday.

Wishing Good luck to your DS Rianna

Rianna · 19/01/2018 13:59

It’s a ‘VR ‘ interview . He’s bad at interviews . But I’m happy for him it’s not a straight no .
We can go for lunch afterwards . Now feeling a bit more hopeful I won’t have to homeschool . Dozer , I got a really strange feeling from Claremont tbh . ‘ I don’t think they’re keen on him and it might me the use of a laptop . I made him sit Reeds too ( he liked it ) because of it and was glad I did as someone told me they told her ‘ they don’t want those children ‘ ( mild SEN). So not sure . Let’s wait and see . I’m so happy I got a letter , yours might be coming later . Maybe it’s surnamea .

yep very surprised but we got an invite back too, arrived in the post today. This was absolutely the best case scenario for us but does mean we now have to wait until the very last day to find out :(

Rianna · 19/01/2018 15:02

Cjm mamma that’s great .please don’t worry about the interview - do you have a good back up ?

OP posts:
Rianna · 19/01/2018 15:05

Did they call it a verbal reasoning interview too ?
My son is shy .
I’m just very pleased .I think it’s great to be called back .

Mama786 · 19/01/2018 16:52

Hi all,
We have also been called back for 2nd interview for maths and English. Anyone know what this will include, is it another written test or verbal interview??
Best luck everyone x

SheilaFentiman · 19/01/2018 16:54

Congrats all re interviews! are they early next week?

Mama786 · 19/01/2018 17:15

We’ve been called in on Tuesday morning, I’m so curious as to what will happen...

SheilaFentiman · 19/01/2018 17:52

Good luck!

trinity0097 · 19/01/2018 20:39

I believe that they ask them to do a problem in Maths, perhaps one they got wrong and explain themselves. Not another sit in a room and a do a test independently

Rianna · 19/01/2018 20:39

So they’ve been called back for different things . Funny , his VR has always been good .
I guess they’re just going to ask some questions - no point worrying or preparing for it .

Guildford resident here. Those of you with RGS sons pls tell them they don't own the pavements and also not to throw newspapers in the river.

All they boys I see about town have little respect for others and I've had to report them to school more than once.

Avoid avoid avoid

Rianna · 19/01/2018 22:27

Grobags if our son’s get a place we will tell them not to throw stuff in the river and make space for you on the pavement . What do you look like so we can tell them ?

My DS also sat RGS, he likes maths but didn’t mention a train.
WD to those who got a call back.
Anyone know what the 1st choice of creative writing was about? my ds did the 2nd about a skydive. He didn’t understand the first one 🤔
He sat for 13+ so I think that means if he gets a call back it’s for 12+.
Feb 9th seems a long way off 🍷🍫🍷🍫🍷🍫

grobagsforever · 20/01/2018 08:17

@Rianna - better just to work on the sense of entitlement that school seems to give the boys. It's not a phenomenon I've witnessed with the other fee paying schools around here. Guildford High Girls pupils are generally lovely, as are the boys from other schools. I promise you, the RGS boys are a real issue for local residents.

Rianna · 20/01/2018 08:27

I’m surprised to hear that . I went to their Christmas fair en thought what a nice bunch of boys they are on the whole .
The parents I know are actually more down to earth than at many other schools I know - as are the headmaster and the teacher . Very ‘normal ‘ people , not show offs . I suspect there’s a few rotten apples that give the whole school a bad name as as a parent of ( very quiet ) older boy at the school I apologise.

No letter here today, post has just been. Guessing no second interview which now fills me with dread that there’s a ‘no’ letter on its way.

Re attitude of some RGS boys, I’ve never witnessed it in town (and I live there), but I guess it’s up to the parents to ensure their kids remain polite and respectful. If my DS does get in, I will try my very best to ensure that happens. It’s RGS or the local comprehensive for us. I’ve had to ring up about the behaviour of some of the kids from the comprehensive before, so I think it happens in every school.

Anyway, anyone heard of scholarship/no letters hitting the doormat yet?

IvySquirrel · 20/01/2018 10:22

I'm a parent, live in Guildford, know a wide range of people including children in all local secondary schools (state & private) and don't recognise the attitude and behaviour mentioned.
Of course the RGS boys aren't angels (they are teenagers!) but the ones I know are generally lovely, polite and well-mannered. The school works hard to discourage any entitled attitudes. If you do report to the school they deal with it quickly.
