I’ve had so much fun lurking on the entrance test threads in the last years - now it’s my son’s turn .
Still 10 days to go but I’m starting the thread .
Sitting a couple of other schools as well so maybe we could start a general ‘ Surrey entrance exams ‘ thread ( fun ;-)! )
DS ‘s first exam is in two days time .
He’s preparing himself by playing computer games . I let it go as I don’t believe in prepping children too much for these exams - . I just want him to be relaxed .

Thank you ladies ( I aasume you are , you might be caddies ). I think it must have been exactly that , he was tired and didn’t get what was expected . I will have to see if we can figure it out tomorrow before the interview then .
Not much more we can do . If it’s sonething like that it’s worth going over it . But we won’t have the time to do a whole paper . I just have to hope he can remember what it was .

This site is quite good for verbal reasoning question types: www.educationquizzes.com/11-plus/verbal-reasoning/

Not sure if it helps you or not. Good luck with the interviews!

cmjmama · 22/01/2018 16:09

Hi All, So I spoke to a previous candidate for the extra interviews, they are given some questions to look at for 15 mins then they go into a room in twos or threes with a teacher and they talk through the questions. So it should be much nicer for the boys than a high pressured silent room writing answers. Fingers crossed all. We go tomorrow just trying to keep the nerves in check.

thank you everyone !
Shwzmum , no . It means it’s either a clear yes or a clear no . Our interview boys are borderline candidates.

The longer the wait , the more likely it’s a yes as the no letters go out earlier . Good luck to you !
I think our interview boys will hear last .

They have decided, we got all our results (as a School) today for all our applicants at either 11+ or 13+, but they weren’t 100% who they were inviting back for 11+ scholarships. Not sure when the parents will get told though!

2manypets · 22/01/2018 21:55

Thanks trinity. That’s scary.

cmjmama · 22/01/2018 22:39

oh Trinity that is a bit scary so is that just the head of the school being sent the results of the exam for their info only? and it has passed failed and need a further interview categories or just simple exam results as a mark. Is it as simple as pass and fail? pass in and fail out or do RGS still do some choosing and selection on top of these marks?

VienneseFingers · 23/01/2018 08:09

Why do they send the results to the school first? I have always wondered. Is it so they can support those who have failed to get in? Or is there another reason?

notagain01 · 23/01/2018 09:23

Trinity, how do they know yet? what's the point of the interviews then, if they have already chosen!!

sazzy5 · 23/01/2018 09:46

From what I was told by our Head last year the school is notified just prior to the parents. However I would guess that the DS's school is notified of the no's so that they can support the parents who will be getting the no letter this week. The interview process for the call backs will be the only one's that RGS is unsure who will get a place for. Obviously the straight yes's and scholarship potentials are known about, so any Head or parent will know they are getting a yes as long as they don't get a letter prior to the end of Jan. The only uncertainty is for the call backs and possible 12+ call backs for the 13+ entry.

Omi80 · 23/01/2018 11:06

Any letters on scholarship yet .....

rogerz · 23/01/2018 13:08

My wife just told me an invitation letter for scholarship just arrived.

Omi80 · 23/01/2018 14:03

We have received the scholarship letter as well :)

Rianna · 23/01/2018 15:54

Congrats omi and Rogerz !
We’ve had the interview today . It’s basically the parts of the test they did less well . Unfortunately for us my son did tell us last moment what he found hard , but I wasn’t able to find examples of questions like that to practice . He found it quite hard .

Rianna, did you DS have a nath/ VR or English interview? my DS will have interview in English this week and we have no idea what is going to be about! please help! thank you.

Cygne09 · 23/01/2018 16:44

Will it going to be a piece of creative writing, comprehension or a formal interview?

Mama786 · 23/01/2018 17:32

My DS had his interview today- they worked in pairs, it’s more of a informal/ relaxed interview. English was split into two parts. They had to read a passage from a book and answer questions and then they were given a poem to read aloud and also answer questions regarding vocabulary, language, characters etc.
For the maths, it was questions which they may have found tricky in the initial paper. DS said they were simple fractions and word problems.
Surprisingly he came out and said he had fun:) not sure what to make of that lol

Migs23 · 23/01/2018 17:45

Wow, really glad I found this forum. Anxious Dad waiting impatiently to hear one way or another - no news yet! I would expect this week any No-Placement letters to come out, but there are still another 3 working days next week until January is over. Never been this eager to pay so much money in my life.....

longtallwalker · 23/01/2018 17:54

I hope you're joking, Rhiana, about home schooling. You do realise don't you, that if you have a bright child born of an encouraging family s/he should do well anywhere without the extra huge help a fee paying g school gives? I'm sure you are joking.

Frazzledmumofboys · 23/01/2018 17:54

Yes nothing here either, so DS must be a straight yes or no. I’m thinking the no letters might start appearing at the end of this week. I’m going to dread the post landing...

Well done to those with scholarship letters!

Cygne09 · 23/01/2018 18:14

Thank you so much Mama786. I’m relieved that there will be no more interview questions such as children interest, actuality, etc as my DS is not good at formal interviews. Hope all goes well for the other children.

Shezmum · 23/01/2018 18:34

Thanks Rianna, hope all goes well. Nothing here today, its been a very stressful couple of days, looks like No letter on its way.

Rianna · 24/01/2018 05:51

Longtalwlker , I was yes joking but have also gelato some panic when I found out we where too late to apply for the nearest state school ( which is a very good one )
