SURREY people- did you get your choice of school, heard of some strange decisions today !

Themis · 10/03/2007 15:17

Obviuosly dont know all the details as to why people got into certain school but on the face of it some decisions seem strange. A friend of mine is concerned that the equal preference system wasn't used properly or fairly.

Whats your experience today ?

Help! We still haven't heard. this is killing me....

hippipotami · 13/03/2007 09:19

oh hotandbothered, whereabouts in Surrey are you?

The reason I ask is that we were advised to phone SCC if we had not had our letters by the 13th. So get on to them!

Mo2 · 13/03/2007 09:27

Galaxy - don't know if I've got your e-mail - can you send me it on:

CarGirl · 13/03/2007 11:00

oh cece???????????? You must be somewhere a bit posher than me, surely everyone is - I'm a stones throw from the infant school they plan to shut!

ChippyMinton · 13/03/2007 11:06

CG are you talking about CtK infants?

CarGirl · 13/03/2007 11:13

No DD - it's hardly got any pupils and is in a deprived area so no-one wants to go there, ofsted wasn't great either!

pinkranger · 13/03/2007 11:17

when are we meant to here then, im in kent

ChippyMinton · 13/03/2007 11:58

try the kent website pinkranger. The dates seem to vary widely.

cece · 13/03/2007 12:00

I haven't heard about any infants schools shutting but we are jn 11.

CarGirl · 13/03/2007 13:11

they are planning to shut the one in central addlestone which will make it a tight squeeze every where else but there are still enough places just means people will have to go to their nearest school around here.

hippipotami · 13/03/2007 13:35

I think I know the one you mean Cargirl, is it the one with a double name, both words beginning with D? Near some towerblocks?

cece · 13/03/2007 14:01

Oh the one near Tesco?

We are a bit further along from Addlestone but not far.

CarGirl · 13/03/2007 14:04

yes, yes, yes. Plus they want to change the nearby junior school to a primary and the further away infant school to a primary. It has all been presented as a consultation but it seems to be a done deal. I wouldn't mind too much apart from the planning permission that has been granted by central government to build 500 3-4 bedroomed homes which will then needs schools...................

And don't get me started on secondary education have a very bright dd in year 5 who will likely only get into J !!!!!!!!!!

So wish we'd bought in New Haw like I wanted to!

cece · 13/03/2007 14:27

You could always move our way. Think f is OK.

hotandbothered · 13/03/2007 14:32

hooray! We got our first choice - I'm so relieved. Don't know what took them so long...

hippipotami · 13/03/2007 15:45

Oh, can't think of a secondary school in A beginning with J.
My dh went to F.

We now live the other side of Woking, so if we don't move, my dc will go to WC.

lol, that looks funny, of course it may be a toilet...

CarGirl · 13/03/2007 16:06

It used to be begin with A and it merged with the Meads which then shut completely. F is not that great anymore will try for H in Weybridge but that's life I guess.

hippipotami · 13/03/2007 16:12

ah, I know now!

Def worth trying for H. Did not know F was not great anymore, but as we now live out of the area for F (and our dc are only 7 and 4) I am not really paying attention to secondary schools yet...

hippipotami · 13/03/2007 16:13

very pleased for you hotandbothered!

kimi · 13/03/2007 16:25

Im in Surrey, we got our first choice of school for our son but a little girl in his class got a school that was not any of her choices.

hotandbothered · 13/03/2007 18:44

Thank you!

annh · 13/03/2007 20:27

There must be a load of us around the same area in Surrey. F would be our closest state school but our boys attend the Catholic school in WB so SJB would be our first choice of secondary. However, they are now hugely oversubscribed so if we had been applying this year, we would most likely not have got a place although we fulfil all the criteria. Have started looking at private options for secondary but feel aggrieved on behalf of all those parents at school who don't have that option.

cece · 13/03/2007 21:40

Hope F picks up then as we are just down the road from there....

hippipotami · 14/03/2007 08:35

cece I must admit that I did not know F was not so good anymore. My friend applied for a place for her dd there and when she looked at offsted/results etc on the web it seemed like a good school. Certainly one of the better ones in the area.

WC is walking distance from our house (we live in K) so hopefully that will not go downhill over the next few years...

cece · 14/03/2007 17:21

seems there is a lot of us about here! ann I phoned the catholic school in WB yesterday and as we are not catholic we are at the end of the list for admissions so think I won't be putting it down on my form next year!
