SURREY people- did you get your choice of school, heard of some strange decisions today !

Obviuosly dont know all the details as to why people got into certain school but on the face of it some decisions seem strange. A friend of mine is concerned that the equal preference system wasn't used properly or fairly.

Whats your experience today ?

Themis - I'm confused by your link (we're in Surrey & ds is 3 so have all this to worry about next year ...)
So, how does that work? Each school decides separately if they have space for child x? Couldn't a child end up with 3 places

SoupDragon · 11/03/2007 20:17

There's something wierd about the distance thing - the route has to be along proper lit pavements or something.

Themis · 11/03/2007 20:17

Galaxy - get on that phone tomorrow morning to find out what has happened , make sure you are on the waiting list for your preferred school(s).

Waiting lists do move along in the next few months so dont despair ,early days yet.

Lets s know how you get on .

FP _ I dont really know who the minds work at LEA but it does say on the website ( copied & pasted )

If your child meets the admission criteria for more than one school, we will look at your ranked order of preferences and we will offer you a place at the school which you have shown as the highest ranked preference.

Thanks Themis - very bizarre .. so it's equal weighting, but um, with preferences

Toothyboy · 11/03/2007 20:25

I haven't heard yet - did any of you apply on-line and get an email response? I'm Spelthorne btw.

octopussyintummy · 11/03/2007 20:31

I don't live in Surrey - but on Wiltshire border with South Glos - ds1 in school in S. Glos - ds2 not got in - have cried for a week now and have an itchy patch on my leg due to stress and ds3 due in 5 weeks ... we are appealing - there are 8 people without a place as first choice but may not hear back until June .

I really feel for you - good luck to you all for tomorrow - I hope you get in where you wanted to xoxoxox

ChippyMinton · 11/03/2007 20:45

toothyboy, i'm in same place as you. Letter came home in DS1's bookbag on Friday (he's already at the school).

Toothyboy · 11/03/2007 20:49

Chippy, was the letter from the actual school or from Surrey CC? I know someone who got a place at the local CofE who heard from the school, and another who put down state schools who also hasn't heard yet.

ChippyMinton · 11/03/2007 20:54

It is on SCC paper but it was sent out by the school (it's a church school). You're not in A***d are you?

Mo2 · 11/03/2007 20:58

Galaxy - so and on your behalf!

There is definitely lots of weird stuff going on. Was talking to a parent this afternoon, and several people with current Y2 children leaving our infant school have NOT got places for their Reception children, and have instead been offered places in Banstead which is MILES away (you know where I am). When they queried it, and reasoned that they had children to get to school about 12 miles apart they were told that there would be buses laid on for the Reception children !

Can you imagine - sending your 4 year old off on a bus on their own to a school miles away where they don't know anyone???

We have luckily got our first choice for DS1, but I know many people who have been given bizarre offers....

It's a mess.

Toothyboy · 11/03/2007 20:58

I am - do I know you?!

ChippyMinton · 11/03/2007 21:01

Small world eh? Ok, give me a clue - do your DC go to preschool?

Themis · 11/03/2007 21:02

reception children on buses ! poor little kids Unbelievable !

Toothyboy · 11/03/2007 21:04

I'm scared now Chippy! Ds1 will be 4 next month and goes to TT preschool; I also have 1yr old Ds2. You?

ChippyMinton · 11/03/2007 21:04

Given that the letters were over a week late, i suspect something has gone wrong. Mo2, that is unbelievable.

ChippyMinton · 11/03/2007 21:05

ChippyMinton · 11/03/2007 21:14

We're at the church one

Are you waiting to hear about E school? It's very popular this year.

Toothyboy · 11/03/2007 21:18

Yes, hoping to hear about E. It's marginally closer to us than S. Do you live locally? You don't have to say - afterall, I may be a HHT!
