Every year I have watched with interest and excitement as all of these types of threads have progressed to offers.

Finally in the same boat. The Christmas prep is wearing...And couldn't find anyone to share the experience with.... hence this attempt to start one....

Anyone else want to join? If I have missed a school... please feel free to still join in and add your school of interest.

Currently burning the night oil trying to find more comprehension material... anyone have any online suggestions?

MrsPatmore · 10/02/2017 11:36

Congratulations Jody! Great news for your ds...

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 12:10

Congrats Jody well done to you DS!!

Jige · 10/02/2017 12:25

Jody867, wow crongrats that's amazing offer, what school is that for?

navsta · 10/02/2017 12:34

letters arrived today... postman took his sweet time, DS has a place at Trinity (1st choice) and an academic scholarship at Whitgift (originally 2nd choice) - they alluded to this at interview but unconfirmed until today. Very torn as we were targeting Trinity, but Whitgift are making us feel wanted! have no idea what best way forward is... confused.

fabfortysomething · 10/02/2017 12:43

Congrats on the good news, everyone! Some really tough decisions - and I thought it would be easier once we have the results!

No sign of postie here.

Seeline · 10/02/2017 12:55

navsta ask to have another look round both schools. It might help you decide.

Missmillsie · 10/02/2017 12:56

Yay congratulations everyone!

Super happy for you all!

We got a no for 11+ T and Eltham.

My heart sunk for about 5 minutes but I'm ok now. We gave it a go and that's all I can ask for. Will now await 1 march with anticipation!

Gonna look and convince DP we need to book a luxurious holiday with the money we'll be now saving 😂👍

Xx

walkingtheplank · 10/02/2017 13:16

Sorry to hear that Missmillsie. It's a tough process.
You can definitely justify a flash holiday now though!

Gettingthroughtheweek · 10/02/2017 13:32

Good news that DS got a place at T 10 plus with a small drama scholarship; not yet sure if it's affordable unfortunately.

well done to those with good news; we're likely to be back for 11 plus with rather more preparation next year.

sara176 · 10/02/2017 13:34

Congratulations to all of you with the good news. We have full fee place offer from withgeft .

mamanm · 10/02/2017 13:37

I'm starting to worry that the postman will not be delivering the letter to us today! We were building ourselves up for today for weeks; it escaped me that we might have to wait another day due to delays in delivery. So frustrating....

mamanm · 10/02/2017 13:47

Congratulations sara176, Gettingthroughtheweek, navsta, Jody867 - decision decisions now for you all! Sorry to hear that Missmillsie but you are great being positive, let the 1 march bring a good news for you! Jealous of your holiday plans - with our first DS already at T and second DS in waiting for 10+, we have not gone to a proper good holiday for years now! Smile

SweetGrapes · 10/02/2017 14:08

Congratulations to all who got offers. Missmillsie sorry to hear your news - holiday planning is definitely the way forward!
Ds got offers from T and W - but no scholarship - so now waiting for march 1st to see what he gets there.... decisions....

woodlysmum · 10/02/2017 14:12

Congrats to everyone who has heard and best wishes to you missmillsie for 1st March Smile and your exotic holiday!!

DS has a nice offer at T for 10+ . Very proud of him.
It will still be a massive massive struggle for us, so have to think about it but it would be hard to expect him to be motivated enough to do this again next year.

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 14:56

Full fees offer from whitgift for 10+ and no offer from T :-( . feeling extremely low .. as T was DS's first choice and he was confident about his performance too .. it's a 50-50 day for us .. with full fees offer it's going to be a big no for us .. anyone who has been unsuccessful in 10+ but got any good offers next year ? @Mamanm my DS followed your Ds1's route for 10+ but am not sure if it breaks his morale completely and he doesn't want to do it next year or if we get the same result next year too .. any pointers on how to take it positively will be appreciated .. I am feeling sad for DS who was so confident and to tell him the dreadful news of T I hope he can cope well ..
All the best to everyone ..

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 15:08

Few questions to all W mum's ., even if we go ahead with the full fees offer for this year and try other schools next year

  1. what are the extra costs for W other than uniform and school fees ?
  2. how is bullying and discipline handled in school ?
  3. my DS is a sensitive boy - a bit shy and timid if we chose W - is it intimidating ?
  4. if a child performs well are there any future scholarship scopes ?
  5. if he gets good offers from other indies next year - can we negotiate ? Sorry for asking so many questions but

We are just sitting and trying out all options to see if at all we can stretch ourselves and try W for one year with an option he tries all schools next year and hoping he does get some other schools with a bit of a scholarship somewhere .

ChocolateWombat · 10/02/2017 15:48

I think if you accept the 10+ offer you should see it as for the duration and not just 1 year - it's very disruptive to move twice.
If the cost simply makes it not doable on full fees, then wait and try again next year.....awful to go through it again, but you sound like you might take it and then try again anyway.
It would be clear to any other school that you were applying to that you had only been at Whitgift for a year.....not great. Whitgift won't like it either if you start applying for elsewhere whilst you are in Yr 6 of their school....do t think it will help you get a better deal....remember you would need to have applied elsewhere within a few weeks of starting Whitgift.

If necessary, seek Whitgifts advice......just see what they say. Be honest that it's not really affordable without help. Ask their advice....was he close enough to make it worth having another go next year or not.

And usually, it's not possible to get scholarships once you are in, or if it is possible there will be a tiny number and if he didn't get one now, is highly unlikely to get one next year.....so you must be realistic about this, as well as the chances of getting something next year.

TBH if I was in your position, I would first speak to W. If they said he was close to getting a scholarship then I would keep him where he is for another year and try both W and others next year. If they said he wasn't close, I would still keep him where he is and again apply to a range of schools including state ones next year. First step though is to clarify with W how close he was and seek advice.

ChocolateWombat · 10/02/2017 15:53

And sbmum, good luck in negotiating this.
Make his offer from W into a real cause for celebration for him. He has done well to get it and deserves cream cakes!
Wait a couple of days and mull it all over.....it will all be very raw at the moment and you might feel panicked, but the steps forward will become clearer for you. You can speak to the relevant people at W next week for advice (or T) and start deciding. Sounds like staying put for now is probably the best option...will also allow you to save for another year.

Best of luck and well domes for your DS....I hope he's able to feel some sense of achievement tonight, because he sederves it for his efforts and the offer he gotl...and so do you!

mamanm · 10/02/2017 16:14

We got our letter from T in the end at 3 pm! ( postmen tested our patience to the full today!). Offer with academic scholarship - we are very pleased and I already told DS2 that we are proud of him (he quickly moved on to practicalities of what we are having for dinner to celebrate though Smile Still to hear about a bursary in another letter so not yet a full picture of financial damage from next year for us to decide definitely. Congratulations woodlysmum - well done! Sorry to hear your dissapointment sbmum2017 - please, do not despair. If you both really want T., it is worth trying again next year but it will be hard work and lots of exams as you probably will want to do grammars 11+ as well (like we did after we failed to get an offer at T 10+) and by the time he does 11+ entrance at T or W he will be a seasoned examinee. You also will have an advantage of being able to choose from state or grammar schools as well. Failing to get a 10+ offer should not put you off a school, and after more preparation your DS might do much better at 11+ and get an offer.

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 16:23

Thanks @Mamanm .. what I am trying to gather is if he has been rejected this year offcourse the records stay with the school and if he comes back well prepared next year, will there be any chance of any scholarship at all provided offcourse he does well next year .. I am just trying to think of all options really and am thinking if a no offer at 10+ can have any sort of influence on the places being offered 11+ ..

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 16:24

A big Congrats to you and your DS .. now you can relax and well done to both your DS's .. time for some celebrations for you surely !

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 16:28

The above message was for
You @Mamanm☝️

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 17:08

Thanks @Chocolatewombat for your detailed message and explanation . That helps a lot .. and yes I agree after thinking quietly for a while that taking up a place
For 1 year is not a good choice . I rather take up the place only if I have the commitment for the coming 3/4 years atleast until 13+ and if somehow he is not settled or wants to try out other schools and depending on our affordability we should take a decision then . Not saying no straight away . Atleast he has got offer from one school this year with not much prep at all . It might be for a good reason .. God Knows what !
Any W mums - can you please let me know of all the costs other than Tution fees @ w . We can then go back to the calculation table and see if at all we can try W this year ..
DS was quite alrite to handle . I liked his attitude when he said he is disappointed but if we can't afford W then he is very happy to try next year with more preparation and vigour ! That attitude def calls
For a celebration for us ..all the best everyone ..
