Every year I have watched with interest and excitement as all of these types of threads have progressed to offers.

Finally in the same boat. The Christmas prep is wearing...And couldn't find anyone to share the experience with.... hence this attempt to start one....

Anyone else want to join? If I have missed a school... please feel free to still join in and add your school of interest.

Currently burning the night oil trying to find more comprehension material... anyone have any online suggestions?

Hello all, many congratulations to all of you who have received offers and sorry to hear sad news from mismillie and anyone else who didn't get the offer they wanted. Our ds has a 10+ offer for T which was ours and his first choice so we are elated. Good luck to everyone else and well done all!

Missmillsie · 10/02/2017 17:20

Yay well done everyone! Some pretty good news all round!

Ds took it very well bless him. He replied with, 'so they don't want me?'
'But, I'm still going Cambridge' with a fierce determination. That's my boy!

I asked him if he would still sit more exams next year and he said he's definitely so the whole process hasn't put him off thankfully not that there's any schools for year8+ Entry are there? 😉

mamanm · 10/02/2017 17:21

sbmum2017 that is so mature of your DS - respect! prepair hard and hard work will pay off next year for sure at 11+ (if you decide against full fee W this year, of course)! And I agree, commiting to a school for just 1 year is not a good idea in my opinion.

mamanm · 10/02/2017 17:21

Well done Anxiouslywaiting1!

Jody867 · 10/02/2017 17:30

Well done to all the boys for all their hardwork. Sorry if it hasn't turned out the way some would have hoped. We have been in the position of no offers before - but you know, it all turned out for the best in the end for that particular DC.

Whitgift didn't give any indication of what their fees will be for next year as they have done in my older DSs offer letters in the past. I am wondering what big an increase will it be and can we still do it even with our scholarship offer. Decisions and speculations again.

MrsPatmore · 10/02/2017 18:02

This thread has moved on so fast! Many congratulations due! Missmillsie, sorry to hear your newsSad You have a very determined boy who's had to jump a lot of hurdles! I hope he gets a good grammar school place.

Ds has done really well and very proud of him. Just waiting for one more result (it's late... Grrrr!) then 1st March to hear about the grammar allocation. Then only a few days to make a final decision. Despite the joy, I have a terrible stress headache!

expat1407 · 10/02/2017 18:09

Please can someone reply to me. I am new on this thread.
Congrats everyone who got good news.
Hi everyone,
I am overseas mom and have applied for Whitgift and Dulwich Full boarding places for 13+
Just received a Waiting List email from W. Are Full boarding places highly oversubscribed?
Now I am very nervous for Dulwich result next week.

Anxiouslywaiting1 · 10/02/2017 18:28

Thanks mamanm and well done to your DS who has clearly done very well. Best of luck to all who are still waiting for news x

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 18:34

Well done MrsPatmore , Anxiouslywaiting1 .. a big congrats to you and your DS's !

SoupDragon · 10/02/2017 18:50

expat1407 I imagine they are very popular but the sameboys are likely to have applied to each school that offers boarding and they can only take one place. Your best bet is to phone or email the school and ask what your DS's chances are of getting a place.

Notomindmonkeys · 10/02/2017 18:52

Newbie here. Congratulations to everyone. DS1 did 10+ last year, got offered a full fee place at Trinity but we turned it down as we couldn't afford it. Bless him he has gone through the grammar school circuit plus Indies for 11+ As a mum I am totally drained. We have been offered a place at T but it is full fees yet again.

ChocolateWombat · 10/02/2017 18:56

Not in mind, that's tough news, although of course he's done really well. How hopeful of a grammar place are you? Would you be happy with a grammar instead?
It's tough isn't it, when a real success in terms of passing, isn't enough to make it happen.

expat1407 · 10/02/2017 19:07

SoupDragon - I am baffled because during the Skype interview, interviewer said that his scores are good and he can't see any reason that we won't get a place. DS answered the interview questions very well. It was Skype interview, so I could hear it all.
We are more keen on Dulwich, if we get a F there, I will pursue this place with rigor.

Notomindmonkeys · 10/02/2017 19:15

Unfortunately he didn't pass round 2 so grammars are out. We are waiting on Cedars

woodlysmum · 10/02/2017 19:52

@mamanm I've send you a pm- hope you don't mind!

Jige · 10/02/2017 21:31

Sbmum2017 regarding extra costs at W, correct me if I'm wrong (anyone), not sure the actual full fee of W for 2016-2017 but there is a good chance this whatever the figure is, it's likely to increase for 2017-2018 at least 5% and realistically would add 5% for every year after. This would be the case for T as well.

Taking the above into account and any other extras including school uniform, the other cost that comes to mind is the school diners. I'm sure that for years 6 & 7 at W (not T) it is compulsory @ £4 a day, so your looking at £80-£100 a month.

Whatever you decide, to weigh things up and go for W or try at 11+ and hope to get T the one you really want. Tough decision x

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 22:20

Thanks @Jige -
It's probably going to be a no for us this year .. I am not willing to take a hit of that extra £4K this year .. it's an agonising one more year . Not sure about grammars but will give it a try including few states school like Riddlesdown , Harris Academies , and all indies next year ..
any information Mums of RR ? Howz their entrance exam ? I read something about online reasoning . Is it Non verbal reasoning or Verbal only ?

@Nottomindmonkeys - howz the entrance Exam in Cedars ?

I will be back here again next year and hopefully with a better offer result for us !! All the best to everyone and wishing you all- all the very best for everything !

T0nksTheCat · 10/02/2017 22:23

Notomindmonkeys we waiting on Cedars too - any idea when? Frustrating for your DS to get same result from T both times. DS only passed fist stage of grammars too but we are still hoping (perhaps over-optimistically) for Wallington Boys.

SBMum a friend's DS took up a W 10+ place last year intending to try her son for the grammars but interestingly the W Year 6s were away in Lake Garda the exact week of the grammar entrances so that was the end of that! Re gauging levels, DS was on wait list last year for T 10+ bursary and this year got 11+ academic scholarship but it's been a slog and he's good at writing. If it's any consoaltion I've heard W not so great for shy boys.

T0nksTheCat · 10/02/2017 22:25

sbmum RR was Eng comp and writing, Maths and Verbal reasoning as was Cedars. Best of luck

AveEldon · 10/02/2017 22:26

Sbmum2017 - lunch is compulsory at W for Y6 Y7 - around £230 a term
After that it's pay as you eat so I expect costs more

Second hand uniform is very reasonably priced
School trips are extra - so far they have been 1 a term at around the £20 mark
Skiing / Sports trips etc are much much more £ but optional of course

Remember to factor in any travel costs
The school bus is quite expensive - details are on the school website

sbmum2017 · 10/02/2017 23:28

Thanks Mums for your replies .. it clarifies lots of doubts in my mind about W .
W might be a brilliant school but just not right for us atleast this year .
We May end up with the same offer next year or maybe even not but on a positive side I am thinking of saving the £19k this year :-)
@T0nksTheCat - on the website of RR its written as online reasoning with VR, NVR and Numeracy . Since I haven't done any NVR with my DS just yet as we are not targeting Kent as it's too far off from us .
So it's Sutton and Indies for us next year -
All Mums- I wanted to
Understand how difficult the level
Of NVR is and is 9/10
Months good enough to prepare DS for NVR ?
Sorry for asking so many questions , lot of things going on in my mind .. still sleepless night for me -
Lot of anxiety , to even think it's one more year it's painful !!
happy that DS is atleast sleeping peacefully now and tried his level best to hide his disapppintment with a brave face . I know he is disappointed as much if not more
. His bestie got into T and I know how desperately the boys wanted to go to the same school . Anyways what's gone is gone . We need
To concentrate for next year and I am just hoping with 1 year of hard work maybe he will get a place for His 1st choice of school . AMEN !

Notomindmonkeys · 10/02/2017 23:38

Submum2017 if it is any consolation, I am so glad we didn't take up the offer at 10+(other than the money). DS has matured so much in Y6 at his current school. Being the oldest boys in the school they have so many responsibilities plus they know they have to set a good example for the younger boys. In a way I also wish we hadn't done 10+ as I have had it with exams. DS has coped so well though, so your DS will be okay.

Notomindmonkeys · 10/02/2017 23:40

Submum2017 DS found the Cedars exams the easiest of them all. I don't know if that was down to doing so many as they were the last ones he sat.

RainbowBabyMum · 11/02/2017 00:21

Hi all.
Congratulations to everyone, who received offers today.

Ghmum06 · 11/02/2017 07:19

Hey all
New to this post but have been a daily reader providing me with great support through this process.

DS has an all rounds scholarship for W 10+ but not as much as we were hoping. I'm going to call Becks on Monday to negotiate.

Any advice on approach and any mums out there have positive stories of scholarship increases after negotiating Smile
