Every year I have watched with interest and excitement as all of these types of threads have progressed to offers.

Finally in the same boat. The Christmas prep is wearing...And couldn't find anyone to share the experience with.... hence this attempt to start one....

Anyone else want to join? If I have missed a school... please feel free to still join in and add your school of interest.

Currently burning the night oil trying to find more comprehension material... anyone have any online suggestions?

My DS is doing the Trinity 10+ tomorrow- his only exam this year. It's his (and our) favourite school so feeling very nervous

Missmillsie · 06/01/2017 21:09

Good luck woodlysmum!

We will know by next weekend if my ds wasn't successful in his exam. Is it the same process for 10+ too? X

11Eleven2017 · 06/01/2017 21:15

missmillsie you mean ... you'll fine out if DS 'was successful' .... stay positive... I know I am trying to be. Trinity is also my son's N0.1 school. While my husband and I really love it, think he would do better in a mixed school like Caterham which he sits next week. Have my fingers, eyes and toes crossed for that one...

NNS03 · 06/01/2017 21:36

Evening all, my DS did Trinity last year and I do feel for you all! It was so nerve wrecking. I know when he came out we couldn't get anything out of him and we got very nervous, but you can't read anything into what they say. We over analysed everything until we got the call for an interview and scholarship assessments and ultimately result day!

Good luck with next few weeks everyone!

Missmillsie · 06/01/2017 21:38

Bless you 11eleven. Yes, stay positive! Haha x

Jige · 07/01/2017 08:59

Sbmum2017 - my DS also sat the Whitgift 10+ last Thurs, and very similar experience to your DS, DS found the SPaG (comp paper) hard.

In the VR paper a few anagrams which DS has touched on but we've not come across many in the bond books. My DS did get chatty with a few boys and some did manage to answer a few. Also mentioned that one of the guys he was talking to was only sitting the 10+ at W&T for practice test. I'm sure they may be a few doing this before they sit their chosen preference.

I tried to get as many answers of how the day went before DS turned round to me and say his favourite line "I don't know"!!!

Anyone sitting the 10/11 + next year a warning....the queue was ridiculous getting them in the morning so leave plenty of time to factor that in.

Did anyone else's DS sit the W 10+. Anyone have any idea how many sat the 10+?

Thank you MrsPatmore for your good wishes.

DS sitting Trinity 10+ today, feeling nervous.......good luck to all!

sbmum2017 · 07/01/2017 11:00

Hi Jige,

Absolutely similar feedback from my DS. He said the same things that some of the anagrams were not in any bond books we did with him and there was a new type all-together which he has never done.
he struggled a bit with the SPAG test particularly the comprehension part.
Maths was comparatively better however i think some of the questions (especially intended for scholarship) was quite tricky. He managed to solve most barring two of them. I am sure , cant rule out some silly mistakes or errors that are bound to happen for my ds.
This was his first test and he was very nervous . I am not expecting much. fingers crossed .. Going by whatever little information he gave me and then he turned back and said " I don't remember ", Whitgift experience is been 50-50 positive for him so am not sure about the outcome now myself. an anxious week ahead for me.
Hope he gains from the experience and atleast his today's papers should go better than whitgift's .
he is sitting only W/T this year and if he qualifies - good for him. if not we try next year again for 11+
All the best to everyone.
He is also taking Trinity today and lets hope our DS's can perform well .
GOOD LUCK everyone.

Hi all! We sat 10+ today at Trinity. My son came out happy and said everything was fairly easy (he is not so sure about comprehension but said he completed all the answers) so, fingers crossed, his judgement was correct! Despite being extremely nervous beforehand, he was back to confident self coming out, so again well done Trinity for making the exam day as fun as possible. Now anxious wait begins...

mamanm · 07/01/2017 15:46

I wonder how many sat 10 + at Trinity today?

woodlysmum · 07/01/2017 15:50

Mamanm yes my DS came out happy too and also said it was relatively easy- I am now wondering if he left out large chunks of questions!! Comprehension isn't his strong point and not sure how that could've gone.
He said a boy asked if there were any maths scholarship questions like on the sample paper and was told that there wasn't?!
DS said the chips were AMAZING and loved his activity, so very happy!

woodlysmum · 07/01/2017 15:52

There seemed to be an awful lot of boys being picked up.
Going by candidate numbers, I think at least 150. Maybe 180-200?

mamanm · 07/01/2017 16:02

Yes, pizza sauce all over his cheeks - happy bunny! Loved his activity too! Comprehension is always tricky one, I think, for the boys - hopefully they nailed it this time!

BoSelectaBigBiff · 07/01/2017 16:42

We asked last year, and they said around 200 sat the 10+. I'd guess it's similar this year. That's for 63 places. It sounds as though the exams today went well - fingers crossed for you all!

Anxiouslywaiting1 · 07/01/2017 16:48

So lovely to read past and present posts. My DS sat the Trinity 10 + today, and after leaving a nervous timid boy this morning he emerged with a big smile on his face. He thought the Maths was fine and the VR easy... but not so confident with the English which is his weakness.
Does anyone know whether each individual exam needs to be passed or do they look at the overall score?

T0nksTheCat · 07/01/2017 17:35

To answer your qu mrspatmore comparing levels of Sutton area Grammar Schools with W/T;

DS sat T 10+ last year and was on the Reserve List for Busrary
He passed the SET stage 1 but not Wilsons or Sutton.
He sat T/W 11+ and we've just been phoned by W re interview, which I hope bodes well...

woodlysmum · 07/01/2017 18:24

BoSelecta the prospectus and website for this year says 46 places for this year. Was it always 63 prior to last year or do you think that was a blip?

fabfortysomething · 07/01/2017 18:51

DS found the T paper "ok" - but who know what that means. It could indicate anything between 20% and 90%. Has anyone been called for a T interview yet?

ilovegreen · 07/01/2017 19:41

Last year was high birth rate year where we are in north Surrey (Elmbridge) My DS has 25% more in his year than stated in the prospectus.

Anxiouslywaiting1 · 07/01/2017 19:46

No phone call for us yet but I'm guessing it's a little early for that .. also not as confident as earlier since have a feeling my DS has flunked the English paper 😞
Still very proud of him

Missmillsie · 07/01/2017 20:14

Tonksthecat,

Do you mean that your son sat 11+ at Trinity yesterday and you had a phone call today?

Well done to your boy! Xx

Missmillsie · 07/01/2017 20:16

Also for anyone's interest, my son asked Mr Price if he knew how many boys sat the 11+ at Trinity yesterday and he said approx 300.

X

MrsPatmore · 07/01/2017 20:19

I'm sure that last year there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the calls for Whitgift. Some were called to interview almost immediately and others had an agonising two week wait but still interviewed.

Thanks for the info Tonks and good luck.

Ds sitting Dulwich on Monday. From what I've read, they contact those they are interviewing fairly quickly after the test so we should be put out of our misery either way fairly quickly!

sbmum2017 · 07/01/2017 20:55

Hi Mums
Got a call today evening from Whitgift for an interview next week for my DS who gave 10+ on Thursday. Any suggestions as to how to prepare him for the interview? Does he need to carry any portfolio/folder ? I know they haven't asked for any but will that be of any help? Any inputs will be highly appreciated . TIA
DS appeared for Trinity today. He found it little easier than Whitgift
He seems overall happy with himself ; His body Language was much positive than Thursday. Except for VR which he couldn't finish the last bits as he found it very lengthy and Comprehension is not his best forte so i will be worried for that and will hope for the best. Essay topic he could relate to and wrote whatever he could. Maths went fine for him.
Will wait eagerly for a call from Trinity. Hope he has done just enough to take him to the next round so that he can atleast go upto the sports assessments which he is looking forward too.
All the best to everyone.
May our children achieve whatever they aspire for in life.

SweetGrapes · 07/01/2017 21:04

Not sure. Ds got called today too. He sat Whitgift on Thursday 11+. Watching with interest as he doesn't have any folder / portfolio to take.
Do they ask academic questions too?

SweetGrapes · 07/01/2017 21:08

Can he take the Harry Potter books? He could talk about them for hours Grin
